Corrado virgin, is the storm edition worth the extra premium?
Jim Bowen replied to maximusiv's topic in General Car Chat
i prefer a non-storm as i think the storm badge on the rear of car is one too many and it starts to look cluttered  Also speedlines are nicer wheels in my eyes -
i am deffo up for having a go at rebuilding one, going to need to do it quite soon. Does the kit have a rebuild number? Fluid level has always been fine, in fact i've taken old rack off now and undone the connection on the pump and also the bar that goes through crossmember and the fluid still isn't draining away??? its still on the minimum on the top up bottle

how much was a VW one? was thinking its about £600
-
have got a sand blaster so was going to blast the metal bit anyway, how important are those plastic guide rings?
-
Finally got my rack off. Was going to bite the bullet and buy a brand new one from VW, but chickened out spending the money after looking at the rack. Can they be refurbed? am sure i saw a thread with some kind of seal kit you could buy. I actually have a spare rack, was told it was a refurbed one and had done 20,000miles, but i can't be sure and a bit unsure about just fitting it and not knowing. Could i use the two rack to make one? Do they wear much inside? Something a bit concerning, was i noticed the length of straight pipe that connects between the two steering rack boots was missing on the one i just took off, meaning all the grease ha spurted out the holes left by it  Feck knows how long thats been missing.

just fancied tidying it up a bit and thought the slim ones would give me more room in the bay, probably me doing unnessary stuff again tbh
-
Heard some slim fans mentioned before. Has anyone got any details of this fan upgrade? My standard ones are old looking and the plastic guides snapped when i tried to pick them up without knowing i was standing on them
-
will have to sand blast around them then, not much corrosion in those areas anyway
-
Am having trouble getting them out of subframe, i didn't want to whack them with a hammer and damage them if they aren't meant to come out, but am sure they should ^^^a nice coating of oil on the subframe :!

i did hear about that before, but its almost stopping my main spring from doing much springing -
i remember the whole suspension unit being a lot smaller than the ones i took off, got a pic somewhere. ---------- Post added at 1:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 1:38 PM ---------- and then on the car, you can see how high up the strut the lower spring plate is

the reason i switched to KW coilovers was i tried two different types of lowering springs had weitec ones with weitec shocks then swapped the springs for Pi ones as they had the smaller top coil and fitted the late spring plates, both-40mm kit dropped the front of car way too much and the handling was horrible. I was still not totally happy with it but never really spent the time setting up the ride height. With the ride height i was running on the KW's the small spring was totally compressed and the larger one was also very compressed meaning not much spring movement. I have considered removing the helper spring all together or getting some custom springs. I just wanted slightly lower than standard and it means compressing the springs. -
yeah, must be a few mm, i haven't pulled it out as it came together like that and didn't want to come apart
-
Bump stop for the above shock, a bit grubby...
-
