  1. i'm attempting that myself, didn't wanna pay someone else, plus i'm getting to treat and small bits of rust hidden away, like under battery etc. also found some wires that look a bit dodgy so going to sort them out, if a garage had done it, they wouldn't of bothered
  2. the one that connect to lever under dash so you can pop the bonnet. i got fed up trying to disconnect mine and ending up cutting it, so need a new one, its just the wire inside the thing that i cut, all the black covering is still there. is it a case of threading a new bit of wire into the black sleeve, i couldn't see any other way of getting it off VW want £25-£30 for a new cable, but that might be the whole thing
  3. Gruvenparts = £260 Samcos = £220 Radiator = £180 thermohousing - £40ish (not 100% sure) Water pump = £37 Jubliee clips - £30 thats what i've ordered so far, not got it all yet though, infact i only have the rad
  4. yeah, i plan to change water pump and fit and gruvenparts crack pipe. is there anything i should know before taking that belt off and undoing alternator etc?
  5. been on phone to Baileymotor sport, about the hose clips. the samco ones take a few weeks to get, and chap said they been using jubilee clips on silcone hoses for over 20yrs and they always been fine, just avoid the ones with holes instead of raised bits for the bolt thread to tighten onto, as the holes chew up the hose all i need to know now is a range of sizes i may need, i spose it will be more apparant when my hoses arrive
  6. Dave? or are you looking for something more German sounding?
  7. anyone help? or done this before, might get a mobile mechanic to do that bit
  8. indeed, i was going to order some, but was told they not as good quality as justmatz deluxe ones
  9. http://www.tool-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Cutting.html its £12 there
  10. am sure i got the diamond wheel for about £12 i just used grinding stones that were softer than metal on metal, and the tips just disappeared broke a couple of cutting discs using them at a funny angle, some drill bits i snapped and the wire brush vanished as i touched it on some sharp metal and shot all the metal wires into my hands
  11. i really don't know
  12. this is all i can find on heated seats not sure if its what your after
  13. i think i spent more on attachments than the dremel  broke loads already
  14. think mine is a 400 something, i can't remember, it has a digital screen and you can set the rpm from 5000 to 33,000rpm got the planer attachment with it, bought the diamond wheel cutter too, want the bendable thing  i got the attachments through an ebay shop
  15. do they have a guarantee? i had a mongoose system once, i drove over a kerb and it ripped the brackets off, told mongoose and they sent me a whole new system for free 8)
  16. got rad off now, although pic doesn't show it, i thought the front rad might be leaking, does the aircon use a liquid? also, how the hell do i get to the crack pipe and water pump, looks a bit of a mission :( does that belt need to come off? and the alternator is that?
  17. i'll use jubilee's then. any idea of the range of sizes i need, i remember there being some small ones near the throttle body is it?
  18. i think i'll leave the matrix and aux pump then, if they don't require the front end to come off again i could always do them another time. i know the matrix has already been changed once, so hopefully will be ok for a while. http://www.powerengineering.co.uk/mikalor/ ^^^whatabout those for the clips
  19. :( are they expensive?
  20. only just thought of that, checked website and seems they do http://www.samcosport.com/clips.asp?make=vw
  21. i really don't fancy trying to get the clamps ones back on again, took ages doing the engine to bulkhead one :( don't samco make clips for there hoses?
  22. its straight forward imo, i've no experience of mechanics at all, i just decided am fed up paying other people to do it, so trying it myself  looks messy but its just bolts and screws really, i seem to undo a load of bits i didn't need to. once bumper and slam panel are off there is loads of room around the rad, not sure how the aircon rad comes off without undoing the hoses/tubes though i've already spent £700 on parts doing this  but am planning to renew the whole system now
  23. i have the gruvenparts rad elbow coming, althought the new rad has one on it anyway and the old one looks pretty solid. ordered the pump just now its the one thats powered by a pulley, and is on exchange basis, i noticed the electric one, what does that supply then? think i may leave that one as it looks quite easy to get to. another thing is the clips/clamps for hoses, i found the standard springy ones a bugger to fit last time, and noticed the manual says they can be replaced for "the screw type" is that just normal jubilee clips? i can get them from anywhere right or are there specific ones for coolant hoses? Anyone have much idea on the range of sizes i need?
  24. don't forget your toothbrush
  25. After having my 3rd breakdown due to something in the coolant system breaking i'm replacing what i can. so far i have -thermostat housing -new rad -all the gruvenparts parts -set of samcos -plenty of G12 just about to order a water pump too is there anything else i should add to list? sorry for making another thread, but need a quick answer, and ill try and write a guide for the forum once i have this sorted
