Very good question, always wondered that. I never blank out my plate but I didn't think of the whole cloning issue...

My girlfriend drives a Ford Ka, fairly suitable I think. Her dream car is one of these horrible StreetKa monstrosities (sp?). She likes new beetles as well... infact anything with lots of curves it seems.

Gunk engine degreaser is apparently the way to go. I have a can of this in the garage, haven't used it yet because my engine bay is pretty clean. Spray the gunk everywhere (avoid electrics), leave it for 5 mins then wash it all off, either with a hose on a light setting (avoid electrics) or with a sponge and cold water.

I think with resprays you can shop around and get massive differences in price and quality of the job, but just because you pay top dollar doesn't mean you get a good job!

Thanks stan, i've donated a couple of pics for the banner. Firstly anything I know about OBD2 I have been told by kev so check the Supercharged VR6 thread (or ask him) if you want to know more! You need a new OBD2 (From Golf VR6) ECU, Engine loom, Key, Coil Reader, Imobiliser transponder box & loom, lambda probe and throttle body. I managed to get most of these parts cheap but expect to pay £2-300. The pricey bit is getting the conversion done, Vince at Stealth is the man to do it (he did kev's) and it is a full days work.

Probably been done, but whats the worst bit of a C to clean?

Two feet up the exhaust pipe it starts getting pretty hard... ;) -
Didn't get the bushes done, I did speak to Vince about it but he said he'd only do them if they needed it. If i've got enough money i'll get some bushes done next time i'm up there! I was with my girlfriend (much to her disgust) whilst at Stealth spent the whole day in town and I can report the ONLY pub worth going to is 'The Old Mint'. 'The Black Dog' has patrons that look (and smell) like black dogs so don't bother with that one. If I was on my own i'd take a book. :)

OMG please tell me thats not true...

Thanks Jim, I want to keep it pretty standard. As I said before the Speedies have had a refurb so it really helps keep a good standard look. 8) kev, dunno if Vince knew exactly what was wrong with the ECU, he just tried a golf one and it worked ok. OBD2 is on the way, thanks to bigpants baby who is providing me with most of the stuff needed for a great price. Just need to save up for the Stealth bill & drive up there... again. I kind of get the feeling i'm going to get used to that 500 mile round trip...!

Ok here are a few tasty treats, brought foward thanks to the weather... After sledging home from work I decided to get the old girl out for a photshoot!

Ok so i've been back from my long trip to Stealth for 2 days and I can report that I am very happy. I had the Koni TA's and H&R springs fitted, so the car is approx 30mm lower, not too much but it fills some of the air in the arches! The handling is loads better, let me repeat: loads. A few days before going to Stealth I had my first experience of sloppy handling on standard suspension going round a tight corner, there is no sign of it now. I am really pleased and Stealth have done a great job. All of the clunks and groans at slow speed on full lock have dissapeared, it feels great! :thumb right: The job cost about £670 (seasonal discount included) this included bumpstops & top mounts. Quite a bit of money but definately worth it IMO and thanks to anyone who ever recommended em! Bad news from the trip is that as expected, my ECU is knackered. The ECU has been causing my car to overfuel which is a real bugger. I've decided to take this opportunity (with advice from kev) to convert to OBD2. A new ECU is way to much and second hand ones don't come up much so its a blessing in disguise. The whole conversion will barely cost more than a new OBD1 ECU! So thats all for now, I know what your thinking - this is a gallery! Pics coming this weekend!
-
Well unfortunately not sorted yet mate, we know the problem but now I need a new ECU or need to get the knackered one repaired... Credit where its due, you guys (and myself) thought it was the ECU all along. I did get my suspension sorted, Koni TA's and H&R springs are the weapon of choice and I can report even this early on, they are great (and not too low to get up your lane!) RR sounds good, let me know. If you find any VR6 ECU's hangin about let me know!

This has been discussd a few times before and as I said before, I think it's like leaving the protective plastic on your mobile phone for years to protect it from getting scratched even though it would look better scratched than with brown & dog eared clingfilm. :-P

UPDATE Taken the car to Stealth and they have discovered it is the ECU that is causing the problem - for anyone who was wondering. I can only assume that this happened at some point in the reset/power cut procedure, so you have been warned! http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33166

I was going to take these off but now the car is in the garage a lot (and the garage is not huge) they are doing their job a lot more!

I can also recommend these guys they are very good, love C's and don't mind a chat... Although they didn't manage to solve my fueling problem, i've got to go to Stealth for that. :? -
