  1. Ah nice one  yeah good VFM that  like anything else the general public cant do though, we dont have a choice but to pay :?
  2. Yep transponder imobiliser, as Alex says your key will have a chip in it to which is then read by the coil surrounding the ignition key barrel so each new key needs to be programed to enable it to be read by the coil. Bout £50 from main dealers if i remember right. To test if it works i was told that sticking your key through the foil tray from a cherry bakewell and then try starting the car makes it unable to read so will not start, never tried it though
  3. Dangerous thing to say around these parts. :camp:
  4. Yep as discussed ia pm Alex, i'm in :salute:
  5. she'd have to buy her own rubber though!
  6. Now you're making me nervous  the assessor seemed happy for it to go where I wanted it to though hence asking me to collect a few quotes but i guess we'll see soon enough. :?
  7. Guess you could get away with it if you were called Lucifer
  8. Not giving up without going ten round anyway! today was just the start i guess having an independant assessor look at it who was from both mine and the third party's insurance so not really on any bodys side as such, i guess he'll take the cars condition into account and work out a figure. Will keep you posted. Thanks to everyone for all the advice too :notworthy: i feel very humbled that everyone has expressed their thoughts on the car. :(
  9. Yeah wasn't expecting vw to be very competative but if they know its insurance i'm not surprised they hiked up the cost a bit, will look round for someone with a good reputation near me and see what they come up with. :?
  10. Well he's just left but he didn't say much or engage in too much conversation either :brickwall: but did comment that the agreed value could be the saving grace. Suggested i get quotes from a few other body shops too and that the cars condition was exceptional so that may also help. Hey ho! still dont know where I stand but he didn't lead me into the written off pool just yet! it will depend solely on what quotes I gather I guess. :?
  11. Not yet mate is coming in the post, will have a good look through it then.
  12. Na! got 2 new ones in my garage   Main dealer quote was astonomical beyond extreme
  13. Thanks for that info Steve, a very knowledgable friend also suggested it would be better to panel beat the rear wing and replace the rear panel. see what the main dealers say in the morning first then i'll do some more searching and gather a few quotes in the engineer is in my favour so fingers crossed.
  14. gonna pop to my local dealers in the morning too for a quote just out of curiosity.
  15. Have an agreed value for 4k so that should help.
  16. does look bloody superb Chris, interested to talk about the polishing as i got one from my folks for my birthday so need to pluck up the courage first when i can move properly that is
  17. Can i do that Chris? i want it fixing yes but can i insist that? the boot floor is perfect so mainly outer wing and rear panel, even the inner section of the wing looks ok and the area under the bumper too so feel it definately needs to be saved/repaired rather than writing off and then buy it back......
  18. Can i do that Chris? i want it fixing yes but can i insist that?
  19. Got the assessor/engineer coming tomorrow so not really sure what to say so if anyone has any little tips that'd be most helpfull. :?
  20. Hi Neil, yes have agreed value mate. Got the assessor coming out on wednesday to look at it so got my fingers crossed. :?
  21. I'll get you! Each and every one of you! a fantastic evening though and despite the what happened on wednesday i managed to fully appreciate the party and thoroughly enjoyed it. thanks for making it so special you lot. You know who you are
