  5. Well havent updated for a while. Should really update a bit more regularly, if only for my benefit. Todays adventure was getting the damn OSR brake carrier off the car after my brakes squeaking like mad. It began with a grinding noise, which i just thought was the disc catching the pads as thats what it sounded like. I was wrong, took the calipers off, to find firstly the inner pad was completely worn down to the backing, but the outer one had plenty of meat still on it. Secondly the upper slider pin was completely corroded and was stuck solid. I couldnt shift it and even bent it a little trying to reease it, it was getting late so put it all back together. On the way home (was at parents as thats where my tools are still) and the brakes occasionally squeaking, pressing the brakes stopped it, but it got to a point where it was squeaking all the time and was smoking :-/ Today i wanted to try release the pin after a night of soaking in plusgas. Still wouldnt budge. I got a socket on the end and tried to turn it and it was turning, at least i thought - i ended up sheering the nut part of the sligher pin off  So next was to take the carrier off (I believe new pins only come with a new carrier anyway, so i wasnt bothered about the sheered pin). Got the bottom carrier nut off relatively easy. The upper however was a whole different story. I woudnt have mind, if they were the original bolts, but they were off a couple of years ago to do the bearings. After beating it with a hammer, trying an allen key with an extension bar, hell even the irwins didnt work as i couldnt get the gripper to catch onto the bolt and there was no room to hammer it on. In the end i ended up hitting the lower part of the carrier as far up as i could get it to pivot and down again, eventually it loosened the bolt at the top. Not only did i sheer the head off the slider pin, but i also got a pair of large mole grips onto the bit of pin sticking out of the carrier and it would not budge at all. Wll and truely fubar'd Its always a little snag that can set you back hours. New carrier ordered which sould be with me on tuesday hopefully. Getting a set of pagid discs and pads, along with new bearings too. For now im carless and have to get on the dreaded peasant wagon. Hopefully will only be for a couple of days  By the wya can anyone tell me if there should be any movement where the strut is bolted to the trailing arm. The bolt is tight, the bush is in good condition (the KW coilovers that are fitted are only about 3 years old, if that), but got a few mms of up and down play.
  6. An older one - Fight Club. More to it then just a fight club. Loved the twist to it. Brilliant 8-9/10
  7. Looks like a nice day and some beautiful looking Corrados! More pics guys! :D
  8. Well finally got the little B*%!&(*D out eventually. WHY OH WHY OH WHY do VW use the awful bolts - i HATE them! Ended up hitting the lower end of the carrier with hammer so that it pivotted up and down. Eventually this loosened the rust and crap and also the bolt enough to get the allen key to turn it. Ordered a carrier from vwspares (thanks Steve), Going to replace the pads discs and bearings. Even though ive just done the NS rear bearing, but changing the disc means getting the race out of the old one isnt really worth the hassle.
  9. Well that couldnt have gone any worse. Sprayed the pin with some penetration fluid and left for a while. I then stuck a socket on the end and tried to turn it slowly to release it. It did start to turn. But i ended up taking the head off the pin, so it must be well and truely corroded in there. I thought that may happen. So i was just going to take the carrier off as, bottom allen nut came off no problem. The top one will NOT bunch, i cannot even get it off with the irwins because it wont grip the allen nut. ive tried to wiggle the bottom of the carrier to help release the upper carrier bolt. Bummer. A bit pished off to be honest. Need the car for work, looks like its a bus job for me... oh joy.
  10. Hi Hasan. The reason for me wanting a new carrier is, if i either cant get the pin to move or it breaks inside the carrier with me wanting trying to get it shifting, then a new carrier is need anyway. From what ive read the pins arent seperate anyway, so either way a new carier will be needed. Yeah the boot looks fooked too, which is prob the reason its got stuck. Today im going to get a G clamp onto it to try push it in after squirting plenty of WD40 in there. I didnt realise the pin would be so easy to bend, i did hit it with a hammer, but not that hard in an attempt to shock it loose. But no luck. No scrappers are open today either by the look of it, so prob will order one from vwspares.
  11. I dont know who's going to Tatton that are from/near leeds. If i cant get hold of one tomorrow i may take you up on that offer. Need the car for work, so want it back on the road for monday. But its not looking too promising. The rear brake is squeaking all the time now and smokes, so cant drive it at the mo. How much would you be wanting for the carriers? I trust they include the slider pins? Saying that i can get a new one delivered in 2 days.
  12. Im not mate, unfortunately. Would have been handy.
  13. Cheers dude. I'll get ringing around tomorrow, fingers crossed they have the appropriate mk3 in. Which mk3s came with discs at the back, obv the VR6 and the GTi. What other models? Are Passat rear brakes the same?
  14. Cheers Steve, is that ANY mk3? yeah i saw that link you posted in a thread i saw in the search, but could do with getting it tomorrow. I'll see if any scrappers have got a Mk3 in and if so go an remove the carrier from it. Failing that i'll get one from vwspares? Am i right in thinking they're £80 from VW?
  15. Hi all, Noticed a horrible griding noise from the rear of my car, so today i took the caliper and pads off to investigate - thought it was just the pad scuffing the disc as thats what it sounded like. Found that one pan (inner) was totally worn down, the other still had meat on it. Found the cause - the upper carrier slider pin was corroded and is completely stuck. Ive managed to put it all back together, but the slider pin is slightly bent. Can anyone tell me if there is anywhere open tomorrow that i can get a new slider pin from. I dont understand why places like GSF or ECP arent open on a saturday. EDIT - are the pins available seperate from the carrier? ---------- Post added at 08:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:28 PM ---------- Can anyone tell me if any mk3 golf carrier will fit a VR C?
  16. If you bin it you need to block of one of the hose put keep the other vented, you'll need to do a search.
  17. £100 each! fck me! i dont know why im so shocked to be honest
  18. Good stuff, nice easy fix. HAd that happen to me only found out during the MOT when none of the headlights worked
  19. Cheers RW1, ill check the ISV canister. Do you think its coil pack more then HT leads or vice versa?
  20. Hi all, Had an issue today, when started for the first time of the day. Started the car, fired up ok. I set off and when i switched into 2nd there was a small backfire. Went down the road to the shop and car was fine. Got back in car after being in shop turned car over and there was a big misfire and car didnt start. I tried again and it started fine and drove home fine. I had misfiring issues a few weeks ago where a couple of the HT leads where arching onto the coilpack, RAC came and sprayed some white grease like stuff in the end of the HT leads and its been fine ever since. The only thing thats changed is ive switched back to Optimax for the last week or so. Can anyone help and tell me what would cause this random backfire and whether i should be prepared for something needing to be replace eg coil pack? Cheers
  21. Any clue on what your reserve is Ryan?
  22. Yeah i picked up on that too Yan. If they were keeping the same presenters it would make the pill easier to swallow. But you cant beat the current set up they have. Its seriously going to be a step backwards to the ITV days.
