  1. Don't tell Butterfly - cos you know what'll happen! Kip will get one for Christmas!
  2. I had similar problem recently - oiled up MAF. Took out the sensor blasted it with meths, gently cleaned it up with a cotton bud. Cleaned up the K&N with proper stuff and [lightly] re-oiled it again with proper stuff. Now runs better than she ever did. :D
  3. Well yes - I guess a lot of us have read about the wisdom of warming up gently on the move - but I'm curious as to the lubrication situation once the oil has reached 80 deg +, and it's in the 10 to 20 cst range. eg Is there a cst value below which proper lubrication is reduced? [i'm talking here of what goes on between the rolling/rubbing surfaces, rather than the natural leakage to the sump from crank bearings etc which is clearly dependent on design tolerances, extent of wear etc]
  4. Twas a lovely sunny daybreak on Sunday. :) Mother nature was wearing her glorious autumn gladrags. :D The roads were dry and temperatures comfortably above icy. What more could you wish for than a blast round your favourite local "circuit" in the best car you ever had! :norty: Saw 100k turn over @ appropriate speed & rpm & from the way "Corryn" was singing [accompanied by blower on whistle] she loved every minute of it! Feels like she's only just run in. Isn't life good!
  5. Hi Guy I understand the need to get the oil round quickly from a cold winter start, but most of us [i think?] warm them up gently and give wellie at temps over 80 deg or thereabouts, by which time the viscosity is well down. How crucial is the cst value @ 100 deg to achieving appropriate lubrication? I'm no tribologist - but I'd be amazed if there were not a little more to it than viscosity. Thanks Phil
  6. Very true! Body shape doesn't compare though!
  7. Ditto that emotion ! There's far too much valuation by market perception these days - instead of what the design/metal is actually worth [ie actual cost + a reasonable mark-up] :brickwall: And the difference between the two = Sheer Greed! :nono: Call me old-fashioned if you wish - I don't care!
  8. What a beast! :notworthy: Can't wait to see this in the metal :D
  9. WOW! A speedy mum with technical good taste - quite a rarity! 8) Oh yes it is in the blood, cars she has owned include a brand new Capri 3.0S with minilites in blood orange  , original mini cooper, TVR Chimaera, 944 S2 Cabriolet. Now she wants a nippy run around :salute:  What an upbringing you had - all that lovely machinery! Does yr mum not fancy a VRTC then?
  10. Right - so how do the fully synthetics line up against a widely [erroneously?] held view that semis are better for VR's? Cheers Phil
  11. WOW! A speedy mum with technical good taste - quite a rarity! 8)
  12. Interesting! From the table 10W/50 looks a good compromise. Don't oils have additives [eg Magnatec?] these days to protect from static engine state?
  13. Bargain!! - can't believe it, must be a catch. :nono: 166 Press car - only wi' 2 yrs warranty - 1 to burn & 1 to sell on! :norty: [but can you afford to lose all those hassle filled hours from your life?] A cherished/cosseted 24v 4M - very civilised. :D
  14. Obviously a young feller - managing such a magnificent hump after a night ont' pop! :norty:
  15. Got it on VHS - any use? Yes!!! What a poetic last 30 seconds!

  18. Poetry indeed!! :luvlove: TL is a bit butch... Carla Perez is something else though!
  19. Indeed - but an 8psi Rotrex Cayman S might sorely tempt me - for the same price! :norty: How's your rear strut mate! Haven't seen you since our exchange at Woolley Services - how are your developments coming on? cars running fine mate, still lots of bits and pieces to do when i get round to it but in general its fine. Rear struts on not sure if it make any difference as it was that long since i had driven it anyway but it looks good [/quote:1j8bon8m] Touch wood  mine's running lovely too! Haven't seen you since 263's fitted. Can't feel a lot of diff since strut too - can't help thinking that it helps the body better deal with the extra loads from aftermarket suspension though. Been over to Heckmondwike recently for silicone & alu tuby bits [blower re-plumbing] - good supplier there. [bugger - can't remember his name! Senility - catches up wi all of us]
