After 2 years away, I've just bought back my Corrado
Philmo replied to corradophil's topic in General Car Chat
Welcome back! Took me about 18 months before I could stand the absence no longer. -
The Schrick also suffers from a dipped TB angle, but V9 delivery pipework is perfectly do-able. BTW – the last VSR, said by seller [a Nottingham breaker] to be complete with the peripheral kit and controller, I saw on ebay last Julyish, went for £800 to a Scottish guy. I missed it by 3 minutes!

Brilliant Dave! - a master of value addition! Is there no end to the ways you can find to improve your C? How is it that VW haven't head-hunted you?

Agreed, pulley ratios can be adjusted to reduce power take-off and hence reduce effective internal losses, but if your battery needs so many kw.hrs to top itself up then the alternator control will take those kw.hrs regardless. If you keep yr battery topped up in the garage with an intelligent trickle charger [eg. an "Airflow"], batterydrain/charging isn't much of an issue, unless you do a lot of driving in the dark. 8) Re power steering drive, unless you're continually in town traffic, using lots of lock, it could be worth increasing the pas pulley dia. But is it worth it? The loud pedal is used mostly when pointing, near-enough, straight-ahead - unless you burn rubber for its own sake and grind up CV joints for fun. :cuckoo: Re water pump drive. Given the VR's weakness in the block cooling department, do you really want to risk reducing the speed of drive to the primary cooling kit? :mad2: Yes - only the crank pulley and flywheel absorb torsional vibrations. As for revving freely - how do you measure this? IMHO it's how the engine runs when driving the car that counts - for all throttle conditions that is.

The racing guys go for reduction in spinning mass as it allows the engine to be accelerated to higher speeds more readily. Those guys look for every little edge that can be gained - but for a road car it's negligible. Only reduction in reciprocating mass will contribute to bhp increase, as flinging pistons, rods, crank throws back and forth is a significant contributor to the engine's internal losses. But the real gain in reciprocating mass reduction is in allowing the engine to safely rev at speeds where the extra bhp are to be had. [btw above about 4500 rpm inertia loads on piston, rods and crank are higher than power stroke loads] In practice you can improve acceleration far more by reducing car mass - clear your boot and jettison all un-necessary stuff, keep your fuel tank only part full, etc. There is 1 important reason why you shouldn't go for a lighter crank pulley [if yours is a daily runner with prefered long life expectancy] and that is because VW [along with most engine designers] designed the cast pulley [also flywheel] to damp out torsional vibration in the crank. The choice [and risk!] is yours.

Excellent write up on the fittment Sonicriot13. I agree - can't see what the OEM Connector fuss was about when the connectors provided appear to fit neatly without any cutting & splicing to OEM wiring? Can anyone clarify on this point?

Hi There's a "definitive thread" on the Forum re: cooling system, covering stat, sensors, fan controls, checking/testing them and all you need about having a "cool" car! It's brilliant. :notworthy: Can't remember its name off-hand but a quick search will find it.

& not to be tolerated from a VR!
-
Yeah! The ABT's have nice lines. [and easy-clean!]
-
According to Which? testing [see link] Shell V Power comes out best - but there's not much between them! http://www.which.co.uk/reviews-ns/petro ... /index.jsp
-
Yeah! They're like a chunkier version of the RX's
-
TT's - easiest to clean 4M - easy clean - std ont' Bora 4M Monti's - best lookin!
-
Sounds like a good result Dave. :) Do you have any data on load/deflection characteristcs of your own and other springs on the market? Wouldn't the ideal spring be conical, which, assuming constant wire dia, would give full variable rate between a max & a min?
-
Absolutely. AND - that rotating lump of OEM iron is there for a reason!
-
My understanding of crank pulley design is that the manufacturers select pulley mass and polar moment of inertia so as to optimally dampen crankshaft torsional vibrations! So unless you've got a non-OEM crank, you're ill-advised to change the pulley. If you've got a non-OEM crank then I guess advice should be taken from the manufacturer. Though this advice must coloured to some extent on what crank throw, rods & pistons you're running, also whether or not you've got a lightened flywheel. Any further advice from our mech eng specialists??

Some people seem to assume it's 1 man's collection - but to me it looks like another secure garage in the HK commercial sector. You can pretty much see there's limited appreciation of technical excellence or automotive design leading edge! [GTR & Enzo excepted] They're mostly the sort of cars that technophobes choose to wear as badges. And they're mostly old money cars. eg old bankers or shagged out hedge fund managers! The evidence? .... No bugs, 65 blacks, DB9's, Zondas, Bentleys, M3's, M6's, M5's, R8's, F1's, SLR's Having said that they're probably all daily runners!
-
Wouldn't it be great if it looked like the XF coupe [but with 4 seats, of course] - a proper successor to the C.
-
Amen to that I used to have to clean these! :cuckoo: LOL Not the worst I've seen but - 2 No valves?? What for?
-
Impressive... presumably somewhere in the HK banking sector, but didn't spot any Bugatti's, CL65's, Carrera GT's, Zonda's. Koennigseggs [spelling?] 8)

Is this the rarest Rado in existence today ?
Philmo replied to 2corrados's topic in General Car Chat
"Fugly" Like it! So expressive! One for the modern dictionary  -
Surely, if you keep your speed indication legal ie maintain the std rolling radius by adjusting the tyre profile then the only rubbing issues are around properly assessing the et and any spacer need + wheel/tyre width? Brake accomodation, handling/unsprung mass & looks are connected considerations but have no direct bearing on bodywork/suspension clearance. Easy-cleanability is something else - but why make life difficult? It's too short as it is!!!
-
Is that Tempest in the fetching red outfit??
-
Now if it had a body like this : and kept the Rocco's 4 seats - proper progeny of C!
-
Best all red I've seen. But I still prefer lights like my kippers - lightly smoked, preferably all round.
-
I do not believe it! :cuckoo:
