  1. Polo's and Passats used the same blanks
  2. Ouch, I'm seriously gutted for you  There's a lot to be said for leaving a car in gear, although I learned to drive in the country so a level road was a rare thing, so leaving a car in gear is second nature to me. It has its downsides though, once drove a friends car and parked it outside another friends house, the owner then started it, of course I'd left it in gear, bang into the wall of the house he went
  3. €20 to post my charger by an Post if memory serves correctly from way back in the day when I had my G40 charger serviced, taking into account the extra weight and inflation you could be talking €40 odd for the G60 one now.

    RadWeld ?

I'm ashamed to say I once "fixed" a mk2 golf's leaky heater matrix that way  I'd gone through the hassle of ripping the dash out once before on that car, once was enough
  5. Ah now, Marcus asked a question about if anyone had gone G40 to Corrado and the comparisons between them and we answered. I may well have mis-read veeDuB_Rado's comments but in reality the 16v Corrado is a lot slower than its looks would have people believe, while the G40 is a lot quicker than its subtle image shows.
  6. it would leave you for dust sorry fella  ok im not gonna turn this into an argument, but you cant really say that.[/quote:b1fa3] I'm sorry my man, but its true your Corrado would not stand a chance. I went through this before with my boss at the time with his 16v Corrado, he sold the car a few weeks after in disgust. I have a G40 and a G60 now, G60 is more a lazy mans car in my honest opinion, G40 is more fun and for some reason I find it harder to resist the temptation to push it on than I do in the G60. How to compare the two cars is a tricky one, I think my G40 would take my G60 to be honest, but then my G40 is 139bhp while the G60 is more or less standard, G60 has better brakes but I personally feel the G40 is the nicer car on the twisty bits because it feels lighter and more nimble. A major weak point to watch out for is the chassis leg on the passenger side where the gearbox mount connects as this cracks with abuse. rusty points are under the battery as mentioned (afflicts all polo's based on this body shell caused by acid from the battery) petrol tank is metal and rusts through, filler neck is not replacable on its own. here is mine

    Headlights ?

Is it not just the clip on surround thats smaller on the early ones? :?:
  8. Thats the 89 RHD conversion one isn't it? 89 KE ***** I think?
  9. but a G40 is just a polo, you can make any polo look like a G40,and corrados are a lot rarer than polos!! Em, so you can make a 97 Polo saloon for example look like a G40 then? Good luck with that.......................
  10. Yes they are , there are way more Corrado's about than Rallye's  Corrado's are NOT rare cars, G40's are rarer than Corrado's FFS. anywho, back on topic, the bonded in screen should make little or no difference to the work involved in changing it, the reason for a Corrado being akward would more be to do with the design of the car, bonded screens themselves are actually more straight foward to fit. Rallye's are in my experience slow cars, one of the lads in work has one and its had its a*s handed to it by my G40 more than once, admittidly the Rallye would carry more speed through a corner but it would loose out on a straight. He himself says the 4 wheel drive slows it down and its more of a posers car than a fast car, he rates his 16v Corrado as a quicker car than the Rallye. I would reakon my G60 would be quicker than the Rallye easily too.
  11. I think it looks horrible :(
  12. Water coming in at the rear footwell is nearly always the plastic door membrane on that side.
  13. Because the fan inlet (the normal culpret) is on the passenger side
  14. On the gearbox above the selector connections

  16. Not quite true, my Fiat Marea  was fully galvanised, so now it sits without a spot of rust, but no engine
  17. Nice one, hope you used a heat resistant adhesive though
  18. Hmmmm, true in some cases, but in some cases the only way you can be sure of it being done right is to do it yourself. I will agree that for some things its easier to get someone to do it for you, like the garage I know that changed by cousins G60's timing belt for €20 in labour, but changing brake pads is a 4 bolt and a cup of tea saturday morning job.
  19. Sure I bought mine to save putting miles on my Polo
  20. Agreed, thats a bit more work, and bleeding brakes is gay. But 20 minutes tops to change the front pads, at £20, fek that, thats £60/hr. Its the same as earn £60/hr, or pay someone else £60/hr, no brainer! Thats what I was thinking, £20 is about €30 which is well over 24 cans or 7 pints down the pub. (thats the alcoholic side coming out in me!). I know what I'd rather spend my money on
  21. Having not taken the carpet out of my Corrado I'm not sure, but if its removable take it out and stick it in the hot-press (airing cupbord or whatever you want to call it) and leave it over night, that'll dry it out nicely. Don't leave it there or else it'll promote rust. As for the leak, door membranes and under bonnet drains as has been said, the fan housing can fill up with water and let it out slowly over time. To check the doors take a panel off and look for signs of water marking on the inside towards the bottom.
  22. Does anyone know how these work? I have two buttons on the key fob, a green and black one, the green one arms and disarms the alarm, the black one seems to switch the arm / disarm tones on and off. There is a switch under the dash that makes the alarm beep if you press and hold it, does anyone know what this would be for or where I could find information on these alarms :?:

    Head Gasket?

Blue smoke = oil being burnt, not the end of the world really, hows your oil level? If someone over-filled it you would get blue smoke, its more likely that the car needs a head re-build by this stage if it has not already been done.
