Few nasty surprises when stripping my C's interior
gsbellew replied to gsbellew's topic in General Car Chat
There is some history with it, and only 2 previous owners, so I think I will be seeing if I can get in touch with either of them to see if I can find out anything about it out of curiosity. -

Few nasty surprises when stripping my C's interior

It was a cheap ebay special bought with the intention of using it for spares or if it was better than my current one swapping over to it. I only drove it round the corner off the transporter and into my driveway, thankfully, the welds are splitting and you can see daylight through them in places, so it was only a matter of time till something gave way. -
Stripped my spares Corrado today, I felt bad breaking a 53k miler at first, I dont now. Its amazing and scary to think that this was sold as a car for use on the road. Its a 1990 16v with 53k on it, the pictures do the talking really, note the late spec boot floor  The bloody great big weld line. Weld line at the front of the passenger footwell Welds on the "A" pillars Look at the way the seat belts were mounted    I've counted a total of 4 different Corrado's all of different colours welded together to make this car, the entire rear end is from a late car, but still has the correct data sticker attached to the rear panel :?:

Ah *%&&*$"*^£*()^£^"()*£^"|*(^|&*%&^$%&|*)(I(|) I've been putting off going back to the doctors since the camera up the back entrance but I cant any longer, didnt realise that there would be no driving because of it

Wurth Rust off? Works very well even if it isnt what you are on about. I've used the cutting a slot and screw driver technique, and the trusty old vice grips too, works fine if there is enough to grip on to.

Think I've still got a few years to go yet  Cheers though :)

My Mrs loves them, she never really got to grips with my G60 when I had it, but she has loved the valver since I bought it, hence me buying a second one  His and Hers Diamond silver 16v's

There are somewhere in the region of 200 left in the UK now out of the 500 RHD ones built so they are getting rare enough I suppose.

As for MPG, the only really accurate way is to fill the tank to the brim, reset the trip meter, drive till you need petrol again, re fill to the brim, take a note of how much petrol you put in this time in Litres, convert to Gallons, divide the miles you did by the gallons you put in, there is your real MPG figure.

Em, is the digital one not oil temp and the analogue one water?
-
If you get some pictures up it'd be easier to give an opinion, a rear 1/4 is a fair big job to fit right, you'd be amazed what a good panel beater could do.

Not RX 2's anyway

Welcome to the forum Grathies, Love your Rallye, looking forward to seeing what you do with your Corrado

Are the wheels DTM Mesh?

How many forum members plan on NEVER selling their Corrado?
gsbellew replied to godskitchen's topic in General Car Chat
Hmmmm, Hard to know, we already have 2 children, and more are on the cards, so seeing as my Corrado is in effect the family car used for any long journeys its days have to be numbered, My G40 is my keeper in terms of cars, so unless I am lucky enough to end up with a two car garage when we move house out of the two the G40 would be the one I would keep. -
Did those with this problem ever sort it? Mine is giving crap MPG, 14 - 20 most of the time, highest ever was 33mpg, it got slightly better with the new exhaust, but its gone to sh1te again, its hard to start and keep running for the first minute or so when cold, then its fine, could this be related? I'm regretting selling my G60, it was more economical

Two things are going on there, lighter wheels are easier to turn, so they can be spun up quicker, for example, if wheel "A" spins up to x revolutions quicker than wheel "B" acceleration in a straight line on wheel "A" will be that bit quicker than wheel "B". The second scenario relates to the rolling radius of the wheel / tyre combination, the lower the rolling radius the higher the speedo reading for a given actual speed, so it may appear that the car is accelerating faster based on the speedo reading, but in reality the difference could be much smaller.

You could always fit a cd changer under the armrest where the first aid kit would normally live, could be fitted into the lift up section so I would still allow you to fold the seats etc.
-
Not that much more though  Besides, this country is awash with Corrado's these days, must be at least 12 within 2 miles of me now.

A crappy video clip with the subdued exhaust note (with the door open)

Its taken a while, been busy, but here is a progress update: New exhaust fitted today, full stainless powerflow system,I had planned on de-catting it while i was at it, but there was no cat there to de cat  Went for a nice subtle oval tailpipe design so it looks nice and discreet ;) The next job will be a suspension re-work, then I'm more or less sorted for the minute, although new wheels may be on the list as I'm not so sure about the originals anymore

Looks good, one major flaw, you are supposed to look behind when reversing  You can get systems where the display goes in the headlining so you can see it in your mirror / if you look back, much better IMHO, a lot more expensive than 15 though I suppose.

Coloured polishes are horrible fecking things, they leave the paint hazy and prevent a real deep shine. They may make it look superfically acceptable at the time, but when you start using real waxes and not crap polishes you will wonder why you thought the shine was good  If you can afford it I would get the bonnet painted, especially seeing as you could have that dent sorted at the same time. That said it looks a lot better in the after pictures 8)

Did the idea of calling the police incase it was stolen and abandoned cross your mind?
