Or unless you put some texture additive into the paint

The cosmetic makeover begins. I took over the spray booth in work the other day to sort out a few of the bad spots and remove some of the blemishes on my Corrado, I still have some sections I am not 100% happy with, but its getting there.

rmn's aqua blue 16v corrado...now with a syncro floor

You're making great progress Richard, thought you were mad when you were running through your schedule for getting things done last night, but by the looks of things you are on track to get it sorted sooner rather then later. Keep it up 8) -
I removed mine last week, looks a lot better with them off, I used a hair drier to heat the adhesive and peel it off, any stubborn bits I removed with white spirits. If you are thinking of taking the strips off you would be well advised to check all panels for signs of previous painting (mask lines at the window rubbers etc) or indeed mask lines at the rubbing strips, if you find signs beware that a respray after removing the strips my be needed. The safest way to remove the strips to avoid removing paint would be to heat them and then remove by pushing upwards by placing your thumbs underneath the strip at one of the ends and pushing upwards, this should create a shearing action in the adhesive foam, it will leave more work in removing the remaining foam / adhesive but it will not put the excessive force on the paint that pulling the strip straight off would, thus minimising the risk of taking paint off along with the strip.

Didn't get much done today, got the car swapped over to Irish plates, cost me over a grand to register it and the wifes Ibiza :( Still, I think the irish plates look nicer :-P

Thanks for the comments, Picked up the parts I needed to fix the power steering this morning, some metal PAS pipes off a Passat, I had to modify them slightly to fit but its all working now with no leaks, and seeing as I got the pipes for free from my local friendly scrappy I can hardly complain  I also took the rubbing strips off the sides tonight (I kept them so I can refit them at a later stage if I want) Sorted out the sunroof aswell, it was a bit sticky sliding but is 100% now. I need to get stuck into the interior (seats could do with cleaning vynil on the door cards needs to be worked on too), then the engine bay could do with a good cleaning and one of the sets of sebrings could do with being refurbished (unless I change to something else) Plans at the moment include a new (subtle) exhaust as its own is tired in places underneath and a suspension rework. As it is now minus the rubbing strips:

Thread posted in the Members Gallery http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45379 Back on topic, looking good Richard, looking forward to getting a look at it, although I'm nervous that before I know it I will be hacking the boot floor out of mine under your influence!! -
Thanks Richard, I'll have to take it up to you to let you have a look at it sometime. I'm thinking now that it might look better with different tail lights, time to go google pictures for ideas

After some 450 miles of driving a plane taxi and ferry journey over a total travel time of 22 hours, my new Corrado is finally parked up in its new home. Its a 1991 1.8 16v with 164k on the clock, mainly standard with the exception of a K-star unit, TSR uprated loom and vibra-technics engine mount, it runs and handles very well pulling nicely through the rev range. So far I have just had time to give it a wash, compound polish and waxing and stick it up on a ramp to investigate the leak in the power steering system, which I will hopefully have sorted tomorrow. One of the rubbing strips (passenger side door) is off at the moment, I have it here but am undecided as to refitting it or removing all of them for a smoother look, any opinions appreciated. I also cant decide on the black or silver VW badge on the rear, although I am leaning towards the silver.

Mines not even home yet  Picking it up on Tuesday, I take it Richard filled you in on it?? @ Mark, saw that on the vagdriver thread, best of luck with it 8) -
Cool, so the PAS has its own belt? its not running the water pump or alternator? I'll try topping the fluid up first but if it comes straight out it'll have to be off with the belt for the trip home. I'm used to cars without PAS so I should be grand
-
Is there anyway to bypass the powersteering pump if the car is leaking pas fluid? its a 1.8 16v with a leaky pas setup, I have little or no choice but to drive it, so can I bypass it in a similar vein to bypassing a blown charger or am I stuck to topping up the fluid? That brings another question, how much PAS fluid does a 16v Corrado hold?

I'm looking forward to following this project, missed all but the later stages of your Corrado project but you've been an inspitation to me! Post pics and keep us up to date!! Best of luck with it!! PS if you need help sourcing any materials for the interior drop me a pm, we build limo's and hearse's so I have contacts for getting all sorts of interior trim materials / a stock of a lot too.

As I said to you a few months back Richard, this is going to be one sweet car when its finished 8) BTW, you've gone and gotten me hooked on Corrado's again  Will pop in on my way home with my new one soon hopefully  -
I dont think he means Rallye as in Golf Rallye, but rally as in aftermarket rally fog lights, there was a thread on here about fog light lenses that fitted the late Corrado fogs a while back.
-
agreed. But numbers like LDZ 9559, etc, etc just scream cheap skate chav. Seems normal enough to me  I prefer real Irish plates, much nicer :-P Back on topic, I'd forget spending money on a number plate and sort the bumper
-
You sure? My Merc has two rear fogs :?

Possibly Inane chat?!!...Corrado running cost...
gsbellew replied to Concept-e's topic in General Car Chat
Any old car is liable to cost you money for repairs, a lot depends on how the car has been treated before you get your hands on it. -
LoL, I was going to say something similar :(
-
I'm curious as to what the story is on this too :? If it took 3 months that means that is was started in May, so its possible that the current owner had nothing to do with previous events.
-
Try the advice in the link  http://www.bmwworld.com/repairs/detailing/water_spots.htm Should do the job :)
-
Thank god, I thought everyone on here was a little bit twisted.
-
Why is it on some clocks and not all of them? I had it on my 91 G60, my friends 92 G60 does not have it! Always bugged me when I had the car, never got round to asking what it was
