  1. Had a look at mine today whilst fitting the oil cooler. They do seem to align! Seems my starter motor would use the hole. The thread is quite course?? Will take a look at the Passats down my mates yard this week and let ya know.
  2. Intresting. On my 60 I have 15 missing???? Will have to get that soughted.
  3. Oh Sorry should have said... Its a shocker n spring kit. I'm not into coilovers. Plus not got the cash. Sank such alot into the car. Rebuilt gearbox and driveshafts. Head rebuilt plus oilcooler and all soughts. I will need them ti fit the shockers won't I? Cheers
  4. yep bit scary really. I always wondered why the cars timing was out. Always advanced?? Maybe this is the prob. Anyway all solved now. Fitted the new throttle plates today. Now to get a new ECU line. The original has been cut to 68cm!! It has to be 1m yes? The other nipple needs blocking so Said Dubcharged. Had a few conversations with him about this. Spoke to him after I purchased a new SNS Stage 5.5 chip week or so back. What is the best way to block it off?? Fitted a Mocal cooler today aswell. So now all this is done plus my rebuilt (by GWERKS) charger is also on I should be firing her up in the morning for the first time in 3 months. I disconnect the dizzy to prime the charger don't I. Let her turn over without firing to get oil into the bearings.. Wish me luck..
  5. Greetings all. Pulling up an old thread here. Did a search but no joy. Anyway i've ordered a weitec suspension kit from the man of G. I am going for VR mounts. I have everything except the spring cups thingys. I have the top plates from a Passat in my mates yard. I have mounts n bearings (seperate) I stripped the Passat diesel struts and took the spring cup but I don't think its what I'm looking for, Its smaller in diameter when put against the old one. So does anybody have a part No. I just want to call the dealer then go get em when they are in. Cheers
  6. lefty loosey - righty tighty
  7. Update on this problem. Got a new throttle plate on its way today. So all should be well with the cars vac system. Removed the old throttle plate yesterday and got a better shot of the screws... Bit scary really as the previous owner claimed he was a mechanic  So when thenew plate is in place. What should I do with the other take of nipple? Can you power a Boost gauge from it? Where does the mfa line attach to? Does it stay on the servo? Cheers

    atf fluid

Well this is what its all about really. I read a few posts earlier in the month as I have magically disapeering fluid!! No leaks nor drips on the drive. However after a long run my fluid level is down?? I went n got some fluid from a local shop. Before I had investigated the C. They just handed me a bottle of red. Was going to drain the system and replenish. Guess it does perrish the seals n stuff. Prob need a new rack now No fluid pooling in the gaitors or anything. Ho hum still stuff to do.
  11. As it sez on the tin... Will need new shockers this week. Fronts are mismatched one VW one KYB. So was gonna get a set of gmax and use the lowering springs that are present on the car. Why do Gmax only fit their own springs.

    atf fluid

There is a debate on this. Some C's have a fluid res with a black cap and some have a red cap. Some owners say the red even states on the cap ATF blah blah fluid. Those with a green cap say use something simmillar to LHM fluid. Like the Citroens use. I have a red cap and red fluid however my cap does not state ATF or anything on it.
  13. Can you use a pressure bleader with the C. I have 1, connect it to the spare. Make sure the spare is a little deflated, 20psi to power the bleader. Always had superb results with it.
  14. Hi. Not had my 60 long. In its service history are recipts for 2 previous head gasket jobs. Neither mention a skim. My car overheated and dumped my coolent. Gasket had gone at No1 pot. head needed to be skimmed. Cost £30 for that and £270 for the full headset including a metal head gasket and work to be done. No trouble at all since.. Mindyou pleanty of other stuff to do. Seems if these cars have been owned by people not really interested in em the end up needing work in many areas
  15. yep if its front then the hubs come off. I'm doing mine this weekend. My pass sidde hub was wobbeling in my hand  So I'm doing both. My mate who does gearbox rebuilds has a 10 ton press. So I got a pair of SKF bearings of ebay. £3 a kit. Better than £30 a side. Its annoying really it takes ohh a good 5 minutes to press bearings in. Without the press forget it. haynes say use a vice err no. Belive me its a no.
  16. Hi Mt. here ya go. Take alook I have a new manifold on the way. You gota love Ebay. the nipples have been snapped off and plugged with wood screws So I priced up the butterfly block at the dealers. I would need a new one and 2 gaskets....Gaskets were £2 each and the 1" thick by 4" square block was.....£1157+vat  Oh and 1 had never been orderd...Ever. So I went on Ebay....and got one...? So the mfa pipe actually runs to the servo? So i leave that conected? Cheers
  17. Thanks bud. Much appreciated. I thought the dizzy would point at the notch. The previous owner has the Dizzy Spocket 2 teeth out. Maybe due to the cars vac system and ecu line being plumbed wrong. Soon sought that out. Got a new inlet manifold arriving tomorrow. The brass nipples for the ecu line are snapped off. So the vac line is plumbed into the Brake Vac unit!!!!

    G60 timing

Hi all. used the search to great affect. Just double checking thats all. Fitted a new timing belt n tensioner yesterday. I set the cam sprocket with the two dots against the top of the cylinder head. Crank set fine also. The previous owner had marked these points with red paint. Also he marked the Dizzy sprocket with red paint. I removed the cap from the dizzy and at the 11 oclock position was a notch. Is this No1 cylinder. If so his red mark on the pulley was about 1-2 teeth out? I set the sprocket so the rotor arm is facing the notch. Have I set it correct. Just want to check befor I go bolting on a new water pum,p n pulley wheels ect.
  19. Hi all. Well the rebuild continues. Chimed into a couple of posts last week about Vac pipes and found out that mine are all wrong. Anyhow after getting hold of a mirror I found these...? Is this where the ECU ect VAC pipe is supposed to connect? Cheers all. This is how it was setup !!! Due to the above.. I have spoke to Dubcharged about this and he got me looking in the wright direction. My ECU line is currently connected to the brake servo  How I have it at the moment..Managed to remove the Boost Gauge line.

    G-60 chips

Yep I received my SNS Stage 5.5 yesterday. Cheers Bilal. Fitted it in moments. Well already had the ECU out and waiting. Also got my Charger back from Darren at G-Werks with a 68mm pulley and shorter drive belt. :D Oh I can't wait to get that machine on the Rd.
  21. Dong!!! I'll ge the power washer ready  Yeah I did see its the same cooler as on beetle's. Had one years back. I did find a post on here that somebody stuck up and said the old cooler did a grand job on the C. So I'll live n learn. The mount bracket is huge so i'll bell D at G and see what he sez tomorrow. I do have a Fiat uno turbo cooler hanging in the shed. Is the sought that you would just hose clip the feed hoses's to though. Did'nt really want to chop the hoses's. Got my charger back this week. Well slick. Can't wait to get this car rolling.
  22. Ok. Cheers Flusted. As a matter of interest. Why not remove the exchanger? Is it a debate still running on getting the oil up to temp fast or what? So I spin out the threaded tube, Then remove the whole filter mount and bolt this in place and then refit the exchanger? Does the mount assembley need any kind of gasket when refitting to the block? Edit... Well got the filter mount on. Easier than expected. I love Allen bolts !!! So does anybody here run this cooler? Was wondering where you have mounted it? The bracket is wrong for the C so any ideas. Cheers
  23. Hi all. Got hold of a Golf Oil cooler. I also have the required hose set to remove the heat exchanger. Is there anything else I need to fit this to my 60? Also I guess I remove the whole current filter housing to fit this?? As ever Cheers
  24. Yep I had just spent my cash ont he car about a month before!!! My engine was red hot. Topped her up at a Tesco's and then nursed her to a garage I knew. I hate garages I always do my own work but I was well in a spin at that point moving house n all soughts so I had to hand her over. Can you nurse the car there in one clear drive no traffic or anything to hold you up? Maybe take it down at the dead of night and then walk over there in the morning and explain the probs.
  25. Yep could still be the head gasket. Get a garage to do a dye test. My 60 was fine then the car and bonett erupted with steam plus lights flashin n bleepin. Head Gasket had gone. Dumpin water down the exhaust... £350 later and a head skim and all is fine... I hope its not though...Good luck
