  1. Cheers Dinkus. yeah the car has been dropped 40mm and rides on 17's 205/40/17. I'll drop in and see some people I know after the MOT,
  2. Interesting thread. Being as my car goes for its MOT on Monday. If it passes I will need some sought of alignment doing. I have fitted new tyres and suspension all round. What should I be asking for. ie tracking toe in camber castor?? What. What sought of setup and adjustments will be needed???
  3. Well no relays behind the glovebox? Car does not have ABS. only relays are with fuse's. Any of these work with the cooling fan? Picking up a 2nd new rad switch in a bit also. Update Tested new rad switch in boiling water. Car running no fan action :x Totally confused now.. Can anybody help.. Fan works fine if I short the connections??
  4. Good one the Gman. Yep will try that also. Is there any No on the relays that works with the fan? There is no way I can take the car out without the rad fan working. It gets to hot esp in this weather. Will have more answers later today.
  5. Cheers supercharged. I was wondering as there is a rack of relays above the fusepanel. Down by the pedals. None have names and the owners manual gives no insite to any of them. I'll take alook behind the glovebox tomorrow. Do you think it could be a relay causing the fan to not operate? It works fine if I bridge the connections. The rad is up to temp and the rad switch is obviousley hot but no fan.
  6. Hi all on a G60 do any relays work with the rad fan? Just trying to isolate my probs yesterday. Car now has good waterflow although this is due to running with no Thermostat. Its going for its MOT on Monday and I would like the fan working really. I did a bulb test on my old rad switch today..ie wire up a 12v bulb to the bat and switch and see if it flows current to the bulb. It did not. So gonna pull my new switch in the morning and run same test.
  7. The place that did my car is in St Neots Just NW of Cambridge. I was living down there at the time. They are wright next door to a VW breakers Not Escorts. They often sell stuff on Ebay. With £300 difference in price it would be worth the journey...Plus pop in next door and see if Steve (Not Escorts) has any bits you may want...
  8. Blimey thats steep. Where you live. As said earlier mine cost £352 all in.
  9. ok well i have done the first bit so that the two marks on the cam pulley are aligned so that it is at TDC but when i move the dizzy to the 12 o'clock position should the rotor arm also be positioned at the 12 o'clock position as well? if it isnt how do i move the rotor so that it is without knocking everything else out of allignment? cheers, Hi mate.. Ahhh the delights of Top dead centre and Timing an engine. Basically if the dizzy pulley is at mark then the rotor arm should be at 12.00 oclock. The two are linked as you move the arm the pulley will move and vice versa. Then twist the dizzy body till the mark is infront of the arm and there ya go. TDC is acheived. Obviousley all other pulleys n stuff have to be at TDC also for the engine to fire. Basically the ability of the dizzy body to twist is to make adjustments with a timing gun. It enables far finer adjustment than say 1 tooth on the pulleys. Goodluck...
  10. You need to move the dizzy by twisting the toothed pulley to its dot timing mark. Then slacken the bolt and twist the body of the dizzy so the notch is at 12.00 oclock. This is factory timing I belive. The Dot on the pulley (Aux) should be set to 45 mins past the hour. ie/ so the dot is facing the engine bulkhead. See this link for a tech diagram It should fire up once all timing marks are alingned. Mine runs a treat now. Well except my rad fan won't kick in..
  11. Can't be two faulty stats in a row?? Could it. I tried em both in a pan of boiling water this morning. Both opened up. I know they can jam n stuff but two in a row. Is it worth running with no stat just to test water flow round the engine?? I'll try the little pipe idea now. I have just done a search and found a few refs to that pipe. Blowing down it n stuff. Will see if I get a flow of water. Should it be fairly continues and strong or dribble n spurts?? do any relays control the fan?? I realise this won't help the water flow problem. Well down just this Hr had my two new rear yokohama's fitted and was all but ready for the MOT... As an update Just pulled the small pipe. Yep steady stream of water and burny finger tips... I'm gonna pull the stat and see what that does. 2nd update Well now then. Pulled the stat for the 3rd time today. Run car with no stat. Top n bottom hose's are hot, rad is hot all way down.... Car up to temp 90° and more. Still no fan  Why why why... Had enuff for today
  12. Waterpump is brand new from VW dealer 3 weeks ago. I guess it could be dud? As for Rad blocked. Just flushed it out with hose pipe. Seemed to flow ok. No dirt came out of bottom metal pipe. What would be a good way to test the pump insitu.. Don't fancy pulling my engine bay to bits now its all rebuilt
  13. Well... Now finished fitting a new stat. No difference. Top hose hard n hot bottom stone cold. No fan action. No heat from the matrix either? Rad is cold what next?
  14. Yours is a G60? Yes. If so then No it does not have the Elecy pump. That pump is fitted to the VR6 version. Its prone to failure. How is the car going??
  15. Cheers Supercharged.. :) Hmmm My fan does not come on. I will try again this morning. Now I have a working temp gauge it makes life a little easier. I'll try shorting the connections also. What does it mean if it does not come on?? What needs replacing. My new senders are all VW not local shop jobs. If its the fan motor will the fan from a Mk2 Golf fit. Mt mate has one in his scrap yard at the mo. Also a TDi Passat with a twin fan and Biiiiig rad. As an update.... Just ran the car and tested the fan plug. Got both speeds by shorting diff wires ect. Filled her up wih a hosepipe through top hose. Cleared a few airbubbles out so thats good. Still no fan action?? Top hose is hot and hard (no pun intended :D ) Bottom hose is cold. So it looks like the Stat I fitted is duff...Yes?
  16. Yeah a normal short 13mm ring spanner will do the job. The bolt will not be tight but the dizzy body may be stiff or a little siezed up. It should twist round though.
  17. Yeah make yrs look like Rileys shot. My timing was way out..Previous owner of car :?: Yes thats an easier way of putting it. Get it to look like Rileys photo..
  18. Don't want ya dizzy timing out. Basically Dizzy toothed pulley has a timing dot on it. That dot needs to be a 45 mins past the hr so the dot is facing the bulhead. With the dot at this point the dizzy arm will be pointing up at 12 oclock. Below the dizzy body is a bolt you can slacken this off and spin the dizzy body so the notch is also pointing at 12 oclock.
  19. Just check the dizzy for me. Can you get a photo of yrs. That shot is Riley's shot... Get 1 of yrs to show me. Just in case
  20. That photo of the dizzy. Is that yrs or of the forum???
  21. Yes it will move the flywheel. The crank spins the flywheel which in turn transmits power via the clutch to gearbox out to the Rd wheels. So set yr crank via the mark on the flywheel if ya can't make it out on the pulley.
  22. No your mark is correct. 12 oclock I can see the notch infront of your dizzy arm. The mark you are refering to is just a notch in the cover. Corrado club of canada See that link above use it. Mid way down the page will be a Dizzy shot matching yrs. Noty meaning to be funny bud. You need to really know what you are doing when removing cams n stuff from yr engine.. Lesson learned maybe. At least for the time being
  23. Thirdly...Don't smoke whilst doing this job
  24. Pulling up an oldie here. The G60 goes for her MOT on Friday. With a bit of luck she will pass and be on the Rd. Waheeeey at last 4 months in the rebuilding. One question. During the rebuild I have replaced both ecu and gauge temp senders. Also replaced waterpump n stat, rad switch and run on switch. So basically the lot. On tickover should the rad fan come on? Mine seems not to. I tested the fan motor by grounding the run on connection it span up ok. Not very fast but it was on. If I test the fan by shorting out the 3 pin plug. Which plug the one that goes to the actual red switch? Cheers all
  25. I guess the problem is that the actual camshaft has been removed!!! With my request for timing details I was just fitting a new belt. You can set No1 with easily with a screwdriver popped into the sparkplug hole. Rotate the engine till it reaches max height. However this is no good if the camshaft has been removed. I think you need the valves on No1 just rocking open n shut. ie inlet n exhaust. The dizzy and crank are easy just use the previous link to my request. SET THE CRANK FROM THE FLYWHEEL AND THE DIZZY TWIST THE NOTCH TO 12 OCLOCK. The cam will be a but more difficult. The trying is in the eating of the pudding.
