Reality check...sitting at 70 is one thing, having a 'blast' when most appropriate is another! However two cars neck and neck at double that is another dimension as is 10 miles of cat and mouse. As long as you don't get caught by plod though :cuckoo:

Do you value your licence  Cant see it being fun if you end up with a VRT as an ornament....mind you wouldn't be short of buyers :D
  3. I had unipart battery, was suppsoed to be one of the better ones with big warranty but it was rubbish. Got a Bosch Silver from Costco for around £50 with 5yr warranty if I recall and it's made a big difference. Another drain issue I've heard of is that some cars are fitted with tracker and once the tracker battery is totally dead, it can suck juice from the main battery.
  4. I thought they phased out the Silver and was only old stock left if you could find it? Not used the platinum yet other than in a PD engine but now VR is breathing again it will need serviced, was going to give the platinum a go but might stick with the Magnatec as that#s been used all it's life almost, well according to dealer receipts. Had a look at some other day and says not suitable for vr6, surely must be if some dealers been using it?
  5. Thought had all moved on Synta Platinum...still in a silver container. Is that what mean?

  9. I've had the damn thing since 2006 and it's spent most of it's life in the garage...rotting away! Good question about work on the car, used place out in Banchory previously (C & Ds), the guy used to do some work at the house but he's too busy now. Been trying to get someone to come out and get it fixed up so can get it tested but been let down a few times, got a leak so too risky to drive too far! Have all the parts I think it will need but seems a lot of people not too keen on working on the VR6. Heard First drive meant to be good, have you heard much about Brickfield out Stoney way? What's FD labour rates light, had some work done on a VW by a specialist out Meldrum and their hourly rate was £30 plus vat, bit lighter on the pocket than speccy cars £95 or so. I forget who recommended the stat, it wasn't Stealth think it was another popular tuning type place, if I heard the name it would click....think it might have been Storm Developments, infact pretty sure. They were pretty helpful with regards to giving advice on the phone. I was hoping they could develop my storm....well getting it running again minus leaks would be a start! Nevermind the Golf 4mo is a good substitute with winter tyres....the supercharger intended for the VR6 (gathering dust) might even land up on the 4mo at this rate if that's possbile!
  10. Me too, used to be in BOD but out in the sticks now. Yes believe the hoses can take a while, keep your eye out for a second hand set, they seem to pop up every now and then, think was a set on ED38 but perhaps for Golf VR, not sure if they are the same.
  11. No probs, where abouts in Scotland are you? I think if your in the guts of the crack pipe etc there are a couple of little hoses worth replacing, or maybe they are in the samco kit?
  12. I was advised to use the R32 stat and did so, sure it was the same temp or near as damn it.
  13. Never used them, they don't seem that cheap, well none cheaper than the likes of Camskill. Have used Camskill before on a few occasions with no probs
  14. From VW Spares site : Q) Do you export parts? A) No, we only supply customers within the UK and Ireland. We have tried some export before but there is too much paperwork, the delivery is very expensive, and the fraud risk with some countries is also very high. I just recently order about £300 worth of stuff from them, so no plans to order soon! Is the main dealer in UK not an option for someone to get you some or are they priced sky high?
  15. Some of these hoses say number of hoses = 1, £60 for one hose seems a bit pricey....or a mistake. Does anyone know if an engine code is the same in different variants ie VW and SEAT, does that mean the hoses are identical or can there always be differences
  16. These seem to be ok from what I've heard and the occasions I have used ours http://www.ctek.com/EN-GB/Default.aspx
  17. Biggest upset of the year....why...most fords are poo!
  18. http://tiny.cc/Irwintools Some people dont have great things to say....'Dont buy these if your rounded nut is 11-12mm!!! I have a rounded nut on my brake calipers so i thought investing in these would save a trip to my local garage, unfortunately the 11mm is too small and the 1/2 inch is too big!!!!! the add on set does not seem to offer a size in between?????? Good idea but baffled at irwins strange sized sockets + a larger square drive fitting would have been more useful for flimsy ratchets!!!!' Someone else complained about nuts around 10mm Anyone had same issues?
  19. I was driving out to Tarves on the B999 from Aberdeen the other night and thougth it was bad....until earlier this evening....now that was bad....think the A4 was floating at one point :D I'd have needed a snorkel if had cut out there!
  20. What is the definition of the central computer, is this accessed by the test station? I recently had a situation where had a fail from one garage and to cut a long story short they pissed me off so I never went back and got another test once failure points were fixed and I asked him is he could see what it failed on and he said he couldn't. And for the record the original fail included a couple of parts needing welded which were done and the other tester added another to that list....however there was a big difference on the two advisory sheets
  21. A lot of MK4's have 232x9mm solids on the rear, 4mo's have 256x22mm
  22. There is another side to Kwik fit, other half took our old MK3 Golf GTI in and they told her it needed this and think, along the lines of CAT was goosed and possibly the rest of the exhaust, anyway it was going to be £300 plus, I forget the exact figures she told me at the time. I was working away and as soon as heard this was suspisious so told her to go see my friend, who put it on the ramp etc and told her the only thing it needs was a clip or something like that replacing...anyway it cost zero pounds and I think we done another 20k + in that car with no further exhaust issues or emmision fails. Pity they weren't all like the ones your describe, I could have been done with our caliper being freed off properly
  23. We're north and actually not long moved even further north so it's not so handy at all. There is another guy I trust and his prices are spot on, just he is busy all time and location not so good with us moving. He charges you what he works on the car not if a book says it should take x amount of hours but we rush it in half the time we will still charge you the book time
  24. They charged 2.5 hours but I know for a fact they never worked on the car for that long, its impossible plus you can tell from the log in/off times for the test, time it failed to time it passed. Only way could be 2.5 hours would be including a labour charge for an MOT It was very noticeable, I could feel the drag, as I picked the car up later they had left sharply after I drove away so just had to carry on to get home.
  25. When they called to say car was ready, they mentioned one was difficult to do and I asked if it needed anything and they said no as they had cleaned everything up and was all free etc. You would think a test run might have been the done thing? What time would you expect to do such a job in? Rounded off bolts etc...that would be another worry as I don't own blow torches and the like and doubt a circular saw would be much cope :D
