760bhp Corrado (that's 760BHP....at the wheels!)
Storm77 replied to PhatVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Impressive performance but what's the point of it? Can this power really be harnessed? As for the bodywork....horrendous! -
I'd say there's a fair few unique looking cars out there still - the Smart car, megane, 5-series beemer, RX8, etc. etc (some of these being horrendous!) but i'd agree that alot of the hatches are becoming similar. If you line up the 5 generations of Golf, you can see the gradual evolution though. I think it's a grower. Obviously, the C wins everytime! I think the late MK2 Golf GTI and the C are my favourite shapes ever. I wish they'd build a few limited edition ones with all the mod cons like climate control, air bags, crumple zones etc, obviously with extra power (R32 and FSI 2.0T engines) to conteract the extra weight.

Storm VR6, my sentiments exactly! It's when people say 'it's just a badge' that really annoys me. Thankfully, they seem to be in the minority cos the badges etc are going for silly money!!!, and the Storms are still going for a higher premium. Being 'badge concious' is just part of human nature - people will always want the best of everything if possible (and in this case the 'final edition' corrados with some extra touches). The same reason why many people buy VW's over the cheaper Skodas despite them being the same animal. You're always gonna care what other people think of your cars which is why car shows are so popular - to get mutual respect and compliments from others....so why not have those extra badges and the fantastic paint etc to put the cherry on top of an already superb car?! Us Storm owners wouldn't keep going on about it if we didn't feel we have to fight our own corner! BTW, 16v, bias has nothing to do with it - people who own storms obviously liked them before they owned them which is why they bought one!

This Storm on ebay isn't exactly the cleanest: clicky You'd think if you were selling a car that you'd clean it for the photos and viewings!

I really can't help the oversion to Fords (and Vauxhalls). I'm sick of driving around in tinny, medioka pool cars because they don't want to shell out for German engineering. The other day I had a MK5 TDI hire car and what a difference that made! Still it could be worse, could end up with a Renault that breaks all the time (quite apt that VBH knackered the Megane on Fifth Gear the other night!).

I expect the ST will be quicker than the Golf round the track but that doesn't bother me too much. I'd sacrafice a bit of performance for class and pedigree. A remapped GTI (like the AmD demo car) is still a serious tool though, so it's a perfect all-rounder. Like Tiff said, in the Golf you can rock up at the poshest Hotel and fit in quite well!
-
Hmmm, there's 2 things wrong with the new Focus ST - the badge on the front and the badge on the back!.....INCOMING!!! :D
-
Saw a review on the Mk5 R32 the other day...think it was on Automundial (Men and Motor's finest!) and their conclusion was to the save yourself the extras 4 or 5 grand cash and get the fully spec'ed GTI!.....shame, was hoping for it to be a real winner! Although, didn't somebody say on another thread that the new R32 beat the new STi on all counts?!...that can't be bad. The Mk4 R32 is still on my shopping list though.

Well as there's a write-up on how to fit one, I'm guessing they weren't fitted as standard. Cheers for the info - not sure whether it's worth doing urgently as the current set-up works OK (apart from when I have passengers getting in and out!). The tone I have is just a soft continuous beep which I'm pretty happy with.
-
You'd think that Germans being Germans would have kitted the Corrado with a warning buzzer for when you leave your headlights on. They were obviously thinking of crafty places to store the warning triangle and first aid kit and forgot. Unless they were fitted and mine is broken?! Well I recently got a guy to fit a warning tone (quite soft sounding) which wires into the cockpit light so, when the door is open and the lights are on, it goes off. Trouble is, cos it's on the cockpit light, it goes off when passenger gets in or out too!....doh, should have wired it into the driver door pin? Oh well, it does the job so no fear of flat batteries anymore!! Anybody else done something similar?

TG is the best by far IMO! I think Clarkson, Hammond and May make an unlikely but highly entertaining threesome! The challenges are superb and they speak their minds about alot of things..speeding, Germans etc. Alot of people in my office watch it and half aren't even into cars!....always the discussion topic on a monday morning. Fifth gear is a bit wooden by comparison...but Tiff's driving skills are superb!

Yep, I agree, get some new euro plates - will really neaten up the rear. Tasty looking C though - love the wheels and ride height. I think M3 lights would look the best.

RadostormVR6, I wish I was in a position to buy a new storm in '95. Must be a nice feeling that no-one else has had their grubby hands on it! Must give you even more 'twinkle in your heart'!

Ice White Socks's Mystic Blue Storm- The R32 eater ;-)
Storm77 replied to Ice White Socks's topic in Members Gallery
Very nice Mystic Blue...THE colour to have! Hard to see from the photos but have you lost your colour coded grille aswell? Mine had to be replaced for a black one after it was damaged and am undecided whether to get it colour coded again. Also, what milage you got on that now? -
It depends on personal preferance, If I had the choice between a fully spec'ed VR or a Storm I would go for the VR, providing the VR had all the options ticked; cloth recaro's etc. I think you seem to be forgeting that not everyone likes Mystic Blue or Classic Green or the leather seats, I would much rather have a Black or Dark Grey VR of the same year. True, alot is down to individual preference. But even if you don't like the colour or the leather, surely you can still appreciate what the Storm is about? My point was (all preferences aside because this thread is not just about that), if you were given a choice of a Classic Green Storm or an exactly the same Classic Green standard VR, what would you choose?
-
Of course, but that's why we chose to buy one! 8)

Man, this is becoming a common discussion topic on this forum..... Of course many people who don't own Storms are gonna say they're nothing special - but there's no getting round the fact that they are limited edition to mark the end of an era. If anybody here was offered the choice of a fully spec'ed VR or a Storm for the same money, they'd go for the Storm (especially Mystic Blue because it's Storm specific colour). Obviously they're worth more money because as soon as the word 'Limited' comes into to play it becomes collectable. And thats all there is to it!...the badges are just the reminder for this. And when people say 'i paid alot less for my standard VR with all the extras' it's all relative because whoever buys your car next will also pay alot less!

Don't get me started, over here (Ireland) road tax is based on engine size it starts at around €150 for an engine less than 1.0l and rises to €1,343 for anything over 3.0l :x I had a 2.8l Z3 for a while it cost me more to tax it than insure it. Oh and the roads are still crap  Very true Dusty. I suppose us English guys are fairly lucky compared to the Irish lot. I took my old MK2 GTI (which was lowered) all around West Cork and the roads were an absolute nightmare. Made the roads over here look immaculate! God knows what your road tax is paying for!! The next time I visit, i'm gonna destroy a hire car instead!
-
Well if anybody has tried this 99RON on a remapped VR6, please let me know if it makes any difference. I use super plus at the mo and haven't even tried Optimax. Should I be using optimax for that 1 extra RON?

Corrado Spotting! Was it you? [Archive November 05]
Storm77 replied to Dub_nut_g60's topic in General Car Chat
I now have the GF on 'lookout duty' everywhere she goes. She's reported a very tidy Black 16 valver parked up somewhere in Ealing with 5-spoke 17's, debadged grille with a number plate VIW then 4 numbers. Had a picture on her phone....Good girl! -
As it was morse code buzzing, it does sound like phone interference which could be coming through your speakers? Does it happen all the time or only occasionally?
-
The force must have been with you young Jedi to have only walked away with a cut and a headache! Glad you're ok.....sorry bout the S3.
-
I had spluttering like that earlier this year before I changed the original leads for new ones which remedied the problem. But now I'm getting misfiring problems when damp which apparently is a faulty coil pack. :(
-
Man, that is schweeet!!......gotta win the prize for the Storm with the best paintwork! Stunning.

took some new pics today, fixed after the crash

If you're gonna put big bumpers and G60 arches, you should definitely put the GTI 90's spec kit on it (door mouldings and sills) - once all that's done it'll take years off the car and will look superb with that colour. Very expensive to buy new but can be sourced second hand if lucky.
