Not sure if i can mate. Gonna sell some of the expensive bits and keep the rest for a while and make up my mind. I've always wanted to strip it out, cage it up and turn it into a road legal track car :)

I've definately decided it's the car for me mate. So much nicer (imo) than anything else i've tried. I've come to the conclusion that I like the feel of a big heavy v6 up front - I think thats what felt wierd about the S3. Just need to find the right one. There are two i need to go and have a look at - one of them's only got 37k on the clock! :)

I'm sure we could cover every single make of car with such tales of woe and sorrow mate. I'll start......... I've got this VW corrado that's had....... New engine New this New that Etc I also had a VW golf VR6 that had........ One fella's experience isn't going to put me off what felt like a very solid, well made car to me :) If I wanted reliable I would get a honda - but that also means absolutely zero charm or fun in my book.

If you have problems mate, I'm near brighton and the fella who looks after my car (in brighton) could easily get it mot'd if necessary before you picked it up. He's a dub specialist so if any work needed doing he'd do it for a very reasonable sum of wonga.

:shock: oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god :shock: I've just driven a 156 GTA! Fookin amazing! I absolutely love it! :) I have to say I'm pleasantly suprised - it's much nicer/better than I expected. It drives lovely, steers nicely, nice firm ride but good damping still. The interior is even better than it looks, and I have to say it seemed just as well built as the 4motions and S3's I've looked at. Very solid feeling, as was the whole car. No squeaks or rattles etc. The seats are gorgeous and really comfortable. And the engine note!! :twisted: Really nice N/A power delivery - smooth as fek and more and more manic as the revs rise. Think I've found my next car!! :)

lol :) TBH i've heard that the GTA engine's are strong. Read a few bits on over-fuelling when remapped, but I wouldn't touch it if I got one. The thing is, for me the engine is about 80% of what I love about my rado. Goes well. Sounds amazing, etc. So i just don't think a 1.8T is gonna do the job whatever i do to it, so the S3 is looking less and less likely. Probably :)

They don't sound quite as good as the 3.2 GTA's but each to their own I guess. I have to say though mate, what you're talking about is heresay. I want to know what really goes wrong - ie, electrics, ARB's, etc. Stories from actual owners. Skinnyman - the Brera? I hate that car! Big, ugly pig that weighs about 1.8 tonnes and has the fattest a*se ever designed! Yuk :(

Yeah me too mate. That's how I started looking for an S3 and have ended up at an alfa GTA :)

Am I mental? Should I just buy an S3 and not have the worry of owning an alfa?

If you wanna go really low with a vr then watch the offset. Get some compomotive MO's (16 inch) which have an offset fairly similar to the standard wheels, and you'll be able to go lower than marvin the paranoid android on a really bad day :) Trouble is, more offset (around 30-35) = fat stance.....

What about the 156 GTA? Are they as well built as the 147? Basically a generation older aren't they? Bit more practical with the boot etc, and a bit more room for the kids in the back.

Isn't it supposed to be warm? About 20 minutes after running?
