  1. why would a 20v block be different from a 8v / 16v block? Doesn't the valves sit in the top?
  2. I'd like a couple of standard ones, actually. I've got some crap white faced ones now, graded to 280kph, which makes them inaccurate. Some back-lit ones would be nice, though. Do you got a pic of them installed and everything, Blue_Joe?
  3. true. I wanna be a mechanic in my next life.
  4. Ok, I got my car back from a mechanic I know today (he's like all knowing or whatever), and he told me a lot I didn't wanna hear about my car's electrics. First of all, I got ABS (great, right?), but no ABS light, and I don't think it works either. He further told me my fuse box was fecked, or its supports were, and the cabling in general was horrible. There were signs of an earlier alarm, central locking facilities and much more. Also, the electric windows were aftermarket items. Oh, and the last owner wired up a I could go on for ages. Well, even though I've hired him to do the rest of the electrics already, I gotta admit I am kinda curious of one little sound. When I click the power window switch (near side), there is a loud buzz from the fuse box area, and they don't work either. Crush kill destroy. Gotta admit though, this mechanic did a great job. He changed the clutch, starter and fixed my idle problems, as well as some of the electric ones, in just over a day!
  5. what if you just tape everything off, paint the tape, and look at it from a distance? or do it in photochop? Black rims on red rados usually look really great imo.
  6. hah, awesome positioning. Perhaps I'll be a twat and copy you
  7. well, I guess you could just go for some velcro every MOT test day I guess... Aren't there contacts for the indicators up front? You could just let the contacts hang out and connect them to a couple of indicators, and cheat that way
  8. dinkus, I'm running the wires back down to the boot for amplification. I was just wondering if it is hard to get the wires down to the floor, where I can hide them under the carpet.
  9. great. How do you get the covers off then? just prise them off or whatever? and how do you get the wires down to the ground?

    Spoiler

I believe he means by switch. If you can't wind it down manually, something is seriously wrong with the mechanism. Try to switch the spoiler control box with a friend's, perhaps that can be the problem. Check for corrosion on the contacts, and if there is good contact between the loom and the control box.
  11. I've never heard about traction control on rados. Nice feature though, as long as you can turn it off.

    sudden death

hi, I just left my dream and pride to a mech guy who built a rado vr6 turbo from a £500 shell himself, so I guess I trust him for a day (that's how long it would take him to change the clutch, starter motor, fix the handbrake (something not too major), fix my bouncing and sometimes stalling idle, as well as find and fix this drain problem. All my problems will be solved :) I noticed a slight spark when I reconnected the battery terminals. That means something IS using current, doesn't it?

    Head unit ~

as almost everyone has said so far, alpine is a good bet. Be sure you get one with ai-net availability on it, so you can buy the ipod interface later. Dunno if you get that on cheap players though. What about buying a used player? You'll get last years top models for the same amount of dough if you check out the sellers-forums, ebay and such.
  14. Ok, so it's almost "get-the-glassfiber-out-and-put-my-new-front-speakers-in"-time. Currently I have a couple of tweeters on top of the a-pillars, but I think they're too dominant, and close to the ear. Where do you have yours, and where do they sound the best? Is the original placement all right?
  15. turtles in the airfilter perhaps? Or small stones hitting the inner wheel lining? Or perhaps the wiper linkage?
  16. I've taken the glove box out and put it back in loads of times, and I don't think it's that hard. Just kind of fiddly and "I wish I had three hands" kind of work. Takes me 30 secs at the most. It's great to remove it when you put your stereo in, as you get much better access to the wiring. I actually got mine ALL the way in after 10 hours of pushing :) How do you remove the dashboard anyways? edit: read the CCofC article, got it :)
  17. walesy, is that for the g60 or vr6? 16v, I really want one of those :) Blue_Joe, also, thanks for pics, I did get the right bit :) It was dirty like no other though. I gave my car to the repair man today, he said he'd get it ready for tomorrow.
  18. Hi, I know I got a starter motor with all the parts that came with my car, but I have no idea what it looks like. Does anyone have a pic of one? thx, one love and all

    sudden death

the stereo is connected through the battery, yeah, but it's not on at night or anything. I dunno, but the earth point seems kinda... bad to say the least. I'll go buy a couple of new terminals and a yellow optima battery some day this week. Are there any earth points in the motor room except the original one? I once read it wasn't exactly the "nuts". I probably should get someone to look over my car, but I'm having the starter motor and clutch changed these days, so i'm kinda skint at the moment.
  20. no this has never been done before... ever :D what audi handles do you have? You obviously gotta cut out the handles from the audi door, weld it nicely in place on your rado, and find some way to connect it to the original corrado door mechanism. Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a weld-in kit than cutting up two doors tho?

    centre console

it's incredible what a little velcro can fix! :) As said, try to remount it, and if that's not helping, look if there are any lugs left.
  22. ...ok, I've no idea why this is related to the interior, but I have no rust at all on my motor. It must be bad breath or whatever, but them rust germs sure aren't bothering me ;D New cars are for pussies, anyways.
  23. if it's while driving, I'd guess the exhaust ;) That's what's happening with mine ;)
  24. me want dat interior ;) Lanceevox, ain't nuthin' but a g thang
  25. I believe they can. Or at least, I think my bentley bible says so. It's apparantly a question of just resetting the lock in a way. The way, however, is for me unknown ;)
