woody, the rescue car guy checked my alternator, and said it was charging great. I'll check the starter wires.
-
Supercharged, yes, it does work, you just need to tug it quite hard every once in a while. dazzyvr6, it's definitely still on the floor. Let's say to where you would normally put it if you parked in a steep hill or something.
-
crdo16v, thanks, but the previous owner bought a new battery last may, and I think he bought about 3 of them in about three years. Is that even normal? If I'll buy anything, I'll buy a deep cycle yellow optima or whatever, so it won't happen again anytime soon ;)
-
ok, first of all, I gotta say that this only happens every... tenth or twentieth time, but annoying anyways. When I pull the parking brake (that's what it's called, innit?), it doesn't click until after you're REALLY pulling it, about at max or whatever. How do I fix it? It's kinda loose anyways, so I'll dismantle the console to fix that soon anyways. How do you fix it?
-
Hm, wierd, mine never moves around whatsoever. I think they're original ones too, but with no fixing except the rough back of the mat.

okay, I was just stopping at a gas station to wait for a friend of mine a couple of days ago, after driving for about 30 minutes on the highway. Me and my passenger just sat in the car, with the heat on and stereo on (not really loud tho). Suddently, after... let's say 5 minutes of idle, it just spluttered and died. Does the battery drain that fast, or is this something else? The alternator is in tip top shape.

Okay, I am getting sick and tired of not having two nice displays like everyone else. Is it possible to switch my early style instrument cluster to a late style one?
-
Okay, first of all, I've tried search, but I couldn't find that nice topic I once saw about this, so... Well, my car just stopped idling one day, and wouldn't start afterwards either. Lovely, isn't it? Well, anyways, I need to get the hood up, and I've got it up once with the "pull latch and push down"-method. Now, when I eventually get it up again, how do I fix it? Do I have to replace the whole cable, or can it be adjusted? It pops up on one side, but not on the other. A couple of weeks ago, I tried to close my hood, but the passenger side wouldn't quite close. Do you think it's time for chrome poppers? :D :D :D One love, thanks for all help, and a link to that thread I talked about would be greatly appreciated also.

haha, if you can't bring a good argument, flame the badgers I love badgers! just check this classic :D

So has any one ever dumped a Cossie lump in a Rado??
selbekk replied to PoorMansPorsche's topic in General Car Chat
didn't the blokes at redline put one in a beemer once? I reckon it would be possible but fecking expensive. -
ah, never mind, problem solved. VW even supplied small plusses and minuses on the hidden terminals! Thanks for pointing the cover out for me, Supercharged.

ok, it was just stuck on there pretty hard. Thanks a lot :) Now I got two contacts sticking out of there: a brown and a black wire. Which one do I connect to make the horn say "i love you, would you like to shag me?" Thanks

Ok, I bought a very nice leather three-spoker from BigTartanJudge (thanks mate, love it :) ), but after seriously spending hours trying to find out how I get it on there. I'll attach a few photos so you see how far I can get. I haven't looked at how I am going to get my old one off (the original four spoker), but I'd love a little advice about both of em, if you wouldn't mind :) thanks mates. and happy christmas!

I love my new leather three-spoker original wheel. Just the right design, kinda rare, and not mainstream.

my mfa works ok, except the gas mileage one. It does, according to my MFA, 0.3 litre / 100 km, which is less than an electric uses. Sorry for asking in another guy's thread, but to save the trees )

y'all must be lunatics. The only good reason for sound deadening your bonnet, is if you have an unsilenced screw compressor. Otherwise, why wouldn't you like the sound of either the fine whine of the supercharger, or the six pot vr? The rado isn't really great for frequent long journeys either, so I can't see why you would need it? If you still want to do this, there are surely tens of different designs, technologies and price categories of sound deadening mats at your local hardware store. As mentioned, VAG still makes sets, so if it's available from the stealers near you, and you have too much money, that is, you could buy it ready made from there. Put it in another way, if you can hear (damn, had to think about how you spelled that for a minute :D ) the engine sound inside the car, your stereo isn't amped high enough ;)
-
I might get a place to do this at, at our local youth garage (?). It comes with a new gear box, and I might change that too. is it bolted to the engine, or is there such a thing as a gearbox mount I have to remove? Kris
-
I have no idea where it reads from, actually. I just have a nice lil' gauge sitting in my dash, telling me the info I need :) I don't have a re-route kit.
-
Deanso, if it's cold outside, and you just washed your car, and froze your butt off in the process, it just have to warm up first. Happened to me last night :D

My mats doesn't move at all, and they're not attached in any way. They have a really nice backside, though, with some good anti-grip.

I got a g60 engine in my current rado, but it has seen its better days, as it has passed 227 000 km ~ 141000 miles. I'm thinking of getting it swapped with something else. When I bought my car, I got a relatively tuned g60 engine along with it (220bhp from what I've heard, but probably not as much) and gearbox. Instead of starting to swap the clutch (which is soon gone), and get the current one in some type of shape, I'm wondering about just putting the spare engine in there. If I would, I'd get it completely rebuilt, as well as getting the top ported, and perhaps even get some more fancy stuff with it. Now to my question: Is taking out the old one, and fitting the new one, a diy job if I got a place to be? I'm no big mechanic, but I like to learn :) What do I have to take off, and are there some things I should change while I'm at it? Cheers, Kris
-
the 1.8t sounds like a good one! a g60 engine is also pretty nice, but buy one without a charger, and fit a nice lil' screw compressor :D You could also do a rebuild to your current engine, and fit some type of forced induction to that. Then you'll have the benefits of the 16 valves, alongside with some top-range grunt. Whatever you do, good luck :)

Okay, I was just doing a couple of runs down my local c-roads, and I got a boost reading of close to 1.5 (probably 1.45 or so) bar. At about 6900rpm. Is is usually this high? Gotta admit I got a couple of underbonnet tweaks (65mm pulley, chip, cotton air filter), but nothing major. I recon'd I would get about 0.8-1.2 bar with this setup. Is my gauge fcuk'd or am I doing good with my g60? I made my personal best, 160 km/h, today, racing a couple of friends in an abandoned tunnel. Scary as fcuk, on snow tires and all, but it was a real thrill.

All right, thanks a lot for all the help so far. I'll take the door card off this weekend, to inspect and dissect. I got it up this morning, after letting it rest over night. Still kinda creepy tho, so I think I'll leave it alone until later, or at least not operate it in any way. Another, that are wrong with my car at the moment: - The speedometer jumps on and off all the time now. I guess it is the speedo cable that is getting rounded off in the gear box, but how do I replace it? Where does it attach to the gear box, and where does it go from there? -

Thanks for all help, I guess it's just showing signs of being 16 years old at last. I'll check the window this weekend. It'll probably come up tomorrow, yet it's still kinda spooky to leave the car with the window winded down all night long. I am wondering of re-wiring my whole stereo, cuz it's been done pretty roughly before. However, it wasn't squeaking before I swapped the head unit. I do not have an uprated loom, although I probably will fit one once I get to summer time. what relays should I change? Cheers, and thanks for all help. NickVR6, what do you mean with the earth strap to the bonnet?
