Tell you what, give me the keys and jump in the passenger seat! While you're on Youtube have a look for Trois Riviers ALMS race now THAT is a truely mental rtrack, and to think I was offered the keys to a brand new race-prepped GT3 there.. no race licence, nada, just a case of "here you go sling my hemet and overalls on, take her for a blast in one of the practice session"! Needless to say I declined turning a $1/2 million car into a small cube of metal! Mind you he said he had just had another one delivered to his Garage at home. Same color as his road car and that he was going to sling his number-plates on when he got home and go hunting Muscle cars! :cuckoo:

All good points John, I'm hoping to go in May just to drive round it I'm not going to set lap records! I've head horror stories of over 1500euro per meter to replace Armco! Oh and Mic, a mate who's an ex professional race drive told me of a story of Undertaking a tour bus full of Grannies in full attack on opposite lock mid corner! Just to make you aware! He says it's really no wider in places than a dual carridgeway but with 5ft of grass and then Armco/ concrete.. Personally sling in Nurgberg ring and crash into youtube as well, then see what you think.... Above all enjoy the experience but like John says maintain a heathly fear at all times.... remember the in-car vid of the guy in the M3 who made it one corner before crashing?

Repairing hacked ISO loom... the mystery continues
vwdeviant replied to dinkus's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Dom, can you sling up a photo? My stereo's back to "temp" install while i Track out the intermittant wiring to the front speakers, think it's in the HU-ISO wiring.. grrr... I'll have a look over the weekend for you. But as it's Friday and I had to guess, a pink wire? -
I'll go with not great wages/cr@p hours.. I used to work for Stack and left to get a life back... only 1 in 3 weekends were mine in race season as well as office during week, as as we also covered the US it was shift work till 11pm! However I did get to live/work in the US for a bit and they seem to value their employees more than here... The amount of free drinks/meals I had from working with race teams out numbered the amount over here by about... a milion to one!

How to get running again (first pics for 7 years!)
vwdeviant replied to vwdeviant's topic in Members Gallery
87. Sorry, but Mk2 roccos are ugly, common and pants. Mk1s are the sex (as are mk3's obviously). But it's worth about 40p to boot. Get another notch if you want a project. They're proper VWs... OI! I'm only 86! I was waiting for that Dinks. Just for you I'll try and get some more photos of the old gal this weekend in all her (no doubted) "Pinkness"! Well you will probably like the colour if nothing else! Oh forgot to say she was on about 120k on original engine (Mk1 GTi spec with ext oil cooler) and 5speed box! Un-ripped seats in "Dog-tooth check" pattern. GTi's are quite rare as they were only made for 2 years 82/3 -

vwdeviant replied to vwdeviant's topic in Members Gallery
Yeah they are when it's a daily and the Valve stems are behind the discs, you have to take them off to check/inflate tyres. Plus you also have to drill the rims to fit them so there is some leakage... 4 months of putting up with that PITA soon wore thin! And an excuse to go see Puppy at T3D and go buy stuff... If you look closely you also see the indicator lenses change to White along with US spec red rear lenses.. Typical T3D styling! All done BEFORE the watercooled "Scene" thought about this! Oh and they were all NOS (New Old Stock so fresh out the boxes but made in the 60's) parts too! Mick, I miss NOS in bith forms New Old Stock and Nasty Old Shite... Maybe another T3's calling! mmm Squareback.... Front drums, Check. Seperate locks to handles.. Check Looks like a 64/5 year.. Yummy! -

Ah Mick, I regret that decision and still do! But I had two t3'd remember? 1969 Notch: aka Dot after her first owner (I was #3) Just after I got her and removed the hideous moon discs for "stock caps and trims" And after some tweeking, a new built 1776cc engine with Webber DCNF's, cam etc (good for 110 up a Boxster S's arse!) and Semi polished Magnesium Porsche 914 Pedrini's 1968 Fastback: AKA Yumpie or "why Empi?"(see plate) She was a Gibralter import, so "non UK" color and white interior... Oh and a fully detailed set of Magnesium (again) Porsche Marle 914 "burners" bought a good year BEFORE the car! These were Italian market only 914 wheels and rocking horse poo at the time.. Mick you can bring the beating stick out now! Briefly not seen it for 2 years as I divorced from the wife so had to find new lodgings for it (was in the in-law's garage) so went into a lock-up which I'm still paying rent on (so I'm assuming it's still there). I then moved away from the area for a while too. I'm going to the lock-up where the Scirocco (aka Sky-rocket) is sleeping and have a look this weekend. -
Only Digi Photo I have.. 82 Rocket, GTi, Mars Red, G60 alloys, lowered Braced, Big Zender OE rear spoiler.... Almost every factory option (and has the hangover year Factory single wiper) Resurrect or sell? Your votes please? Oh not seen it for over 2 years! Probably pink by now!

JJ Lehto Met him in his ALMS days when driving the "controversial"M3 (only because it was beating Porker GT3's), was a thouroghly nice guy! and a "European" sense of humour too! His american mechanics couldn't figure him.
-
Ah ok so not a way of getting round the Rado loom issues then! Back to the drawing board!
-
Been looking through the ARZ site and new headlights and see they offer a loom for US cars to go to E-code (and all their lights seem to be branded E-code). So are our lights E-code? Sorry for a "Newbie" question!
-
No Definately won't so you'll just have to sell it to me! Seriously though if it doesn't I'm on First dibs for the exhaust! I need to lose the "quality" Walker Back-box!
-
Its why I want to emigrate there... no "nanny state" in some bits, if you avoid CA that is because everything that's fun is illegal there (except "pron") can't even smoke in public... The whole car culture is huge in the US any-one who has spent serious time over there will tell you that. This is why if you go past an "affluent" high school/college you'll see Porkers and "Modern Muscle" in the car-park... in a less affluent area you'd see 70'/80's muscle cars.. and these are probably just as dangerous, 300bhp in a car built in 71! In really poor areas pick-up held together with bailing twine and tape! Traverse is kind of a prime example... 18 and with a rado, I couldn't have afforded the insurance on a rado at that age! And to be honext I see some kids out and bout (how old do I sound!) and I wonder how they afford insurance on some of the stuff they drive! I guess the other question is what was he doing on an airfield at hat time in the morning as well? My thoughts are with the families and friends of the five though.

Well all achademic now. Been sold to a breaker for £300.00 ! :( The vinyl backed seats is bugging me now!
-
Break the Landy then! If it's not damaged to BER then don't break it. I can remeber th days when rough Splits were fetching under 1k and now my mate bought an accident damaged one that we've been working since October on for 4.5K and even rough examples with a MOT fetch close to 5 figures! Really good ones can command more than a new Golf GTi! Consequently Bays and even Wedges have gone up, try and find a good condition Wedge for less than £1500 these days... and I've seen Bays break the 5-figure mark recently too! Prices for Mk2's are on the up (being dragged up by Mk1 prices) and Mk3's are levelling out. Consequently as they rise people will look for "better bang for buck" cars and hopefully from this effect the Humble Rado will drag itself back up. Because apart from The Corrado and Golf what else VW is there? Plop/Jetty/Pish-rat.... Sultana

Will have to get some photos up when I can then... What were the registrations of the Press cars? Did any have "666" on the plate?

My 91 Rado G60, 1.9 rebuild finished (no 56k)
vwdeviant replied to Monzadave's topic in Members Gallery
So the rebuild's finished... Let the "Fettling" commence! Seriously, good work chap, there a few here that need to do rear bushes (probably me in there too). Shame you couldn't get photos, where they easy to do with a workshop full of tools? -
Sounds like a "Keeper" if it's the first VW you ever drove! Best of luck with it matey and look forward to seeing the photos... Now go give it the caning it probably needs!

And just how do you control the I-pod? I can't believe no-ones come up with a proper in-car I-pod interface yet! So no-one suggest a decent quality Changer then? I see Naka do them but can't seem to see what I need to control them as none of the head units appear to have changer controls listed on teh couple sites I've looked at.
-
Or tried to nip round a queue of traffic! I wonder if he had a fare on baord when he (or she) did it! Didn't know the Previa was RWD?
-
As above, I'd like to replace the Old faithful Sony Tape/10-disc combo in mine as it' developed an intermittant (actually on most bumps) wiring fault cutting the fronts in and out! Don't really like the idea of a single disc unit as I vary my music to the drive and don't really like having CD's rattling about in the glove-box. So any suggestions for a decent, low-key, 10-disc changer system with a good Radio reciever too, as I tend to listen to the radio first thing in the morning, and it either the headunit going away or the BBC's signal strengths getting weaker.. I DON'T need dolphins/ sliver/bling.. but would like green and red, or orange illumination like my Sony does.

Aye wasn't quite Rallye spec, had a electric sunroof, but keep-fit windows.... It's not too bad and we're thinking of doing it as a quick project, but I'm not sure the markets there for Early valvers at the moment. In a few years maybe...
-
Went, with a mate, to look at a "repairable" front-ended valver yesterday on a G-plate as a project... The owner didn't turn up, so no sight of the V5 to seee when first registered... Had "analog" clocks and Vinyl backed seats.. so i guess it's a pretty early one? Anything else as stand-out early-only Valver parts I should be looking for?
-
Andy would like to before and afters with the Black WOW stuff, hearing good things but a lot of spend for a "trim black"
-
Or indeed catch you dead if you were... Aren't the "proper" ones 18x8's too?
