Stupid Q have you tried filling the rehostat next to the switch to make sure it's not turned right down? If it's not that simply replace with the correct switch? Don't see how Mk2 Golf switch is any better than late Rado ones (which don't fail like our early ones.. I'm about to buy my 3rd!)

I have 9m of 6mm black fine-line tape and a plan.. hopefully update and photos at the weekend (weather depending)

Sorted Rattly heat shield over rear box (both button mounts gone) and discovered a small hole in the back box and the fact all the baffles seemed to be partying in there too! But it's only a Walker pattern (explains the horrific fit!) so will be pulled next month and replaced by something a bit more.....Hmm..... Also sorted the "Manifold blow" turned out to be the Exhust gas sensor tube at back of head, the silicon bung had died so, quick repair with some hi-temp silicon and another part to add to the VAG-only list (I asume you can still get them!) Whilst under the bonnet fitted the Drilled Airbox donated by Mrs Badcrumble (RIP) and thoughorly tested on teh London trip last night.. whils not really any qicker it does have a better induction tone when you trmp on the pedal, but still refined at "cruising speeds". Straightened steering wheel out too as it's been on the Pee ever since I bought the car! Few more off the list, and a couple of new ones to add.. Status Quo then.. :lol:

IIRC he standard fit Sony stereo's also had a setting that made them "beep" when a button was pressed (Mine does anyway) but it's really quiet. If it's a loud BEEP from the dash then I concur with the Pink one and it's the low oil pressure warning.. could be a weak sensor?

Got some caps for those if you want them Full set too.. Mate Bought them for my G60 wheels ages ago and they were the wrong ones.. Will give you a spare set if you want them?

'Rado will look good on those D90's once it's come out of the heavens! have a search about on the couple things we discussed last night, headlights esp (maybe geta picture up so we can double check I'm right on the Late/early mix?) There's a couple meets happening in the local area too (Hemel/Aylesbury/Wycombe) so will see you around at thise too no doubt!
