Well, my heart sank when I noticed my G60 has a slight tap / knock when at running temp (100 deg) With the engine running at 2000 RPM I get a noise similar to pinking / little end which disapears either side of this engine speed. Car only occaionaly pinks when hot and laboured. Only noticed it today after a long run when the car was parked up against a wall to amplify the noise And it only does it when the engine is hot hot. Engine oil is BP Visco 3000 semi synthetic 10-40. Noticed that the vacuum on idle as per the computer was about 380-420. I understand this is typical of a car running too much advance. Can anyone help, as I'm feeling a bit pee'd off at the moment.

Looks painful. Good luck with the re-fit. Just been and had a look at my S/C. I notice that there are some numbers scribed on it near to where the boost return pipe is connected. Is this normal i.e. a serial number or does it give me a clue to when it was last rebuilt???

Really fancy the IC as my first mod, as i need to get my charger checked by the the man who they call G before I start to stress it. Options?

Noticed that my G60 pinked the other day (you know the day when the weather was, err actually warm). Made me the think Intercooler... Looked at my Peugeot 306 Dturbo and thought it (the intercooler) might just fit in front of the rad on the C... Not from the same car of course as this is my daily drive, but what I'm trying to get at, is are there other, cheaper intercoolers out there that would do the trick? As ever, just curious.

1/8/92!!! But an early car, recessed bonnet, lamps etc... Not that counts with Mr MoT inspector though!

Have decided to go down the route of a de-cat for my G60 Purely for aural (sp.) reasons & nowt else. As I'm a bit of a whimp, I don't want to go for a full blown de-cat, but instead I want to remove the inards of an old cat and, if necessary sleeve it. Will keep the good 'un for MoT time. Question is, where can I get a knackered G60 cat from??? Cheers, Nick

Riley, Can't really help you on the tuning front...but I have a question for you (and anyone else for that matter). How does the car sound with Cat removed? Must admit my G60 sounds rather pathetic on the std exhaust, but I don't want to change the exhaust as it's a VW one & looks immaculate. Cheers

Don't panic! Having paid top dollar for my G60 I took it to my local VW specialist for a lube service and a good old inspection. This is what came back: Rear engine mount slightly weak Brake balancer weeping worn rear bushes worn fron wishbone bushes Deteriorated rear bump stops So they did the work and also fitted some new top mounts too. Total £400 inc. VAT all in. Not bad as they had to make up new rear brake pipes too and did the service.

Considering a TVR Chimaera for the summer what the VR worth
Kick Up The Rs replied to edd's topic in General Car Chat
The Griff & Chim use almost the same switchgear and they don't suck (personal opinion of course!!!). The reliabilty issue is bourne from the fact that people only use 'em in the summer & stuff 'em in the garage for six months with little or no TLC - a recipie for reliability issues when you put it back on the road. The Vauxhaul swgr is the indicator stalk and blower switch only - which is trouble free and looks good with the Leven aluminium kit As with all TVRs the later the model - the better. Go for a post 94 car and you'll get the Serpentine Rover V8 which has better cooling, PAS etc... Chimarea is a much softer ride with a bigger boot when compared to the Grif and a lot cheaper! Also stick with the 4 litre as in this state it's in its least stressed state. -
Have been fortunate enough to have owned an S2, 2 Chimaeras and a 4.2 Cerbera. The cerbera was a beast and in TVR circles has better power delivery than the 4.5. And contrary to belief all were very reliable (for me anyway). OK, bits of trim would fall off occasionally, but for presence and performance, I don't think you can buy better Was toying with the idea of a another cheap Cerbera in need of a bit of TLC after selling my Audi Coupe, but I opted for the Corrado and used the spare cash for my just completed house move. I think they have gone belly up is that they don't really have an entry model anymore - even the Tamora is bloody expensive. My personal view of course.

Thanks, will give it a try.

Hi, My warm idle speed on my G60 is always a tad above 1000RPM when hot. Idle is smooth, but me thinks a bit on the high side. Is there a base idle adjustment on the ISV to bring it down a bit? Not a big issue to me, but would be nice to get it right. Cheers

I parked my near std G60 against an Vr6 the other day and the Vr looked monster truck like in terms of ride height. Is the G60 generally lower than a VR (and valver). I have std springs... Just curious

What colour was the car?

Well, had another look underneath again today and I couldn't believe what I saw... New cross member and front mount........ but no fixing bolts to secure the mount to the chassis Two new bolts and we are now flying! Seriously though, how can someone forget something like this after taking all the time to fit a new sub frame???? Beyond belief
-
Think you'll find when you hold the stick, you put both full and dipped headlamps on.
-
Yep Halfrauds swapped the mountney one for momo 8014. All fitted and looks great. Although I had to 'sharpen' up the indicator cancel lip on the boss with a file to get it to cancel after a left hand turn!
-
Well, I managed to free up the sticking front caliper with a bit of TLC and has been fine since. The bang / knock thing appears to occuring when you take your foot off the gas. Had a look underneath and I note that the car has a new front cross member and front mount! But the rear mounts look very tired...

PM on it's way!

I'll give em a call tomorrow Thanks

Only had my car a week and someone has already nicked my front G60 badge. Not bad as the car has only been left unattended once in a car park! Is it a dealer jobbie or can I get one from somewhere else?? Cheers

Oh yes, cheers for the info coolrado
