  1. What about a gearbox with proper 1st and 2nd gear ratios to get it off the mark & up to 60 with minimal fuss??? A s/h mk3 GTI gearbox wouldn't cost that much would it?
  2. One thing I've noticed that makes the car look much 'meaner' is the removal of the side bump strips. had to remove mine to do some paint flatting & it looks great without them. oops just realised - off topic.
  3. Ah Thank you! I'm gonna prove to you lot that it was a one off...honest
  4. Brilliant! Managed to get sunburnt yesterday, so at least my nose is now the same colour as my (facial) cheeks!
  5. Hmm thought so. I'll get my coat...
  6. I've recently become a bit dis-illusioned with my C and in particular the quality of some of the repainting done at some stage in the past. Anyway, the problems centred around poor laquer in that there are a few runs just above the bump strips and some dust trapped between the base coat and the laquer one 3 or so panels. So, feeling really fed-up I paid a visit to my local classic car dealer / restorer on my way home to get a quote for some remedial work. However, instead of him quoting me some horific figure, he went into his workshop came back withe some 1500 wet & dry, soapy water, G3 and G10 polish. In 15 mins he had totally removed one of the runs and removed some imperfections in the paint by flatting & polishing. Bloody amazing. Bouyed by this magic, I now love my C again and I'm off to my local paint specialist to get some wet and dry & polish. Does anybody have any tips that I should be aware of before flatting other areas of my paint. It was all a bit too much to take in in such a short time! Ta in advance. Oh yes, what a refreshing change to be helped in this way and all free-of charge.
  7. Spent most of the week trawling thru the forums and asking questions in an attempt to find out what was causing a burning smell on my G60. Missed the footy tonight as i decided to change my valve cover gasket as I thought it was weeping. Smell still there though. Then I remember.........I had wedged a brillo pad 'temporarily' between the cat and the heat shield to stop it resonating. I heated the pad up on the cooker to check it was the culprit and yes it was - but I managed to burn my nose in the process. Can anyone beat this or am I totally unique???
  8. Cheers Stan! Nice car by the way - your slog and hard work puts my groans & gripes into context!
  9. I've owned the car 3 months and I've done new cambelt top mounts bushes fitted alarm bump stops chip & pulley oil cooler re wired lambda probe new exhaust hangers removed window tints sorted elec mirrors / windows fitted stereo re-stained the leather (no comments please) Detailed engine bay The majority DIY Will I ever get to enjoy it or will I just keep throwing money at it 'til I get bored??? Oh yes tonight is valve cover gasket
  10. Cheers guys, Looks like I have some options then! I never thought C ownership would be so stressful...
  11. Well after 3 months of C ownership, I'm slowly getting find all the bad bits about my car. One thing that is really niggling me is the poor quality of some previous paint / re-laquer work. If you look closely, you can see a couple of runs in the paint just above the door rubbing stip on the near side etc. I know it's a difficult one to answer without seeing the extent of what work is needed, but how much roughly speeking would it cost to flat back the top half of the front wings and doors and get them either repainted or just laquered Ball park figure of course & its pearlescent burgundy Thanks
  12. Well, I paid about 1K more than you for a G60 with 68K on the clock & cream leather (yummy). So that should give you a bench mark - it's all about condition at the end of the day. For example, I'm a bit dissapointed with some of the paint now in that it blooms very quickly (needs polishing every 2 weeks). I'm thinking of having the top half of the wings and doors flatted and resprayed or laquered (its a pearlescent), but I have no idea of cost.
  13. I really do need to get some piccies posted in my gallery. The only problem is as soon as I go outside wih my camera to take some, I end up doing something to the car just to make it a little bit better!
  14. I've owned quite a few weekend / fun cars in the past but none have resulted in me spending hour after hour in the garage sorting important / stupid things like my newish Corrado. I'm footy mad, but the World Cup has taken second place to me fiddling in my garage. I usually get home form work, play with kids (and wife :) ) for a bit and then lock myself in the garage for hours on end. I actually got excited tonight about degreasing and polishing my engine bay up...... looks good though. Tomorrow night I'm changing a cam cover gasket and then off to the pub... Am I normal? Do I need help?
  15. ooh I'll have a gander in the morning. Its deffo a rubber gasket though and it's very hard (perished) on the exhaust side!
  16. Good idea - it was just that I was nip into my local GSF on my way home from work in my 'other' car if you know what I mean.
  17. As the title suggests, I spoke to GSF re. a replacement gasket (mine is weeping a tad) and they said they do two types. Which is the best and are they interchangeable? Cheers
  18. Bloody hell! I'm amazed that the car runs so well considering I aint got any closed loop control! Have noticed the cat smelling a bit 'eggy' recently, but I put that down to the more aggresive fuelling of the G-Werks / SNS chip! I wonder if I caught the connector whilst fitting the new pulley belt??? Do you reckon the burning smell could be due to the cat getting a lot hotter than normal it's not being fed the right mixture of burnt gasses due to the lack of closed loop control? Thanks
  19. I hated the noise from my G60 when I had a play & took the snorkel out of the airbox. My question is, going the cold air feed route (hole in bottom of the airbox with pick up pipe where the cc used to sit), does the induction sound quieter compared to with the snorkel removed on the std airbox? Hope this makes sense - it does to me I think.
  20. Whilst investigating an 'orrible burning smell coming from the exhaust manifold area of my G60, I noticed that the 4 wire connector mounted on the rear engine mount has two of its wires broken off! Can anyone tell me what this connector is for? - car seems fine & dandy besides the burning smell! Whilst on the subject of burning, there is a sign of cam cover gasket weeping at the rear, but the smell has only startedd since fitting a smaller pulley, yet the smell is definately coming from beneath the inlet manifold and not from the pulley area. Is it possible that there is a higher exhaust temp now due the smaller pulley being fitted which has made the smell more prominent? I'll get this bloody car right one day... Thanks
  21. Anybody have any feedback on the Weitec ultra gt suspension?
  22. Sadly though my local TVR dealership lost one of its salesmen in an accident during a test drive in a Tuscan. It was quite horific and was front page news in the local papers - really brings it home. They've ceased trading now -it really affected the owner apparently.
  23. Still fitting that oil cooler you supplied me last week Darren. Thanks for the help though - nearly there (I hate those coolant hose clips!) Only problem is I'm off to Cape Town on Sunday with work & I'll miss the show that is just down the road from me... :( Oh well Nick
  24. Just found out that I work about 5 miles north of stealth. Really do need to get up to speed with this Corrado ownership lark...
  25. Visibilty is err 'narrow', the front roll bar sits right above the windscreen... Yes the doors are long, especially when you only have a single garage.! Oh yes, the hand brake is crap too - not enough leverage on the cable at the rear wheels. I had to adjust mine every 4 weeks! And another thing - earlier clutches used to fail which can only be replaced by the later uprated version which needs a new bell housing and stuff so expensive. The clutch slave cylinder is inside the bell housing too as space is at a premium - its a gearbox out job to change the slave cylinder seals! If you drive a car and you feel a 'resonance' in third gear it has the earlier clutch! And stick with AJP V8 (4.2 or 4.5) engine it's almost bullet proof & keep away from the speed 6 engine (unless it been rebuilt & has a TVR warranty). The latter has been plagued with cam / valve issues although TVR have about sorted now.
