The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
gaz the geezer replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
first real chance i`ve had in the last month or so to get any work done on the old girl, i`ve managed to paint the rear axle after getting some new oe bushes fitted ( cheers john ), painted the new calipers, fitted the abs cages to the new rear discs, made up the rear brakes pipes, cleaned and painted stub axles. -

ok this car has been one nightmare after another

i can see your frustration bob, one suggestion i could make is perhaps to sell what you got now, try and put a few $`s away and get another G another day, the longer she sits under the car port, the more things are going to be needing attention ie. brakes etc, i`d imagine there are quite a few of them over your way, they arent going away anytime soon, maybe this has been a bit of a learning curve :( and you wont be alone mate, we`ve all been there at some stage .... i know i have :) i appreciate you are probaly reluctant to do this but you wont always be in the same circumstances that you are in now, youre going to laugh about this sometime in the future, believe me, we all have tales of woe when it comes to car ownership  -
hello Krazee, as it happens, i`ve got the seats out of my car at the moment, i`ll post up some pics in a few hours, hope they are of some use

hello Bobert healetty, sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with your G, it certainly looks like you engine has been fettled to the point of unserviceable, tbh i havent had much experience with your type engine but have a good foundation in the engineering principles in how an engine works, the problem with buying someone else`s project is that you are also buying someone elses`s problem, from the information i have read on your post i`d say that the compression ratio is far too high, it should be around the 8:1 mark to allow for the increased volumetric effiency delivered from the charger, there is every chance the head could be overskimmed. I`m not sure about the contour of the top of the original pistons so i cant really comment except to say that the tolerance on the bore size seems a bit tight, aluminium expands more per degree centigrade than the cast iron at the same temp around it, sounds like a recipe for a siezure sooner or later, i`m used to seeing a good mm or thereabouts sized gap around the crown of the pistons ...... seeing as there could be more problems than meets the eye with this engine i`d be tempted to resign it to the corner of the workshop and put in a good 2nd hand unit, it`s more dollar being shelled out i know but i dont think you have much choice tbh, i personally would rather be driving it than fixing it ( or worrying if it will make it home !!! ) best of luck to you bob -

-
oh yes, the original beggars , the corrado has a bit of a rep of being poor on illumination and some people have modified the wiring to improve the power supply to the headlamps, it`s not as complex as you might think and there is a bit about it on the knowledge base mate
-

hello Ginger69, i found them to be rather short lived, one lasted about 1 month and the other gave us another week before going pop, maybe i had a badly handled set before i got them...good light tho

if you dont mind me asking kev, what was the price for a set to be done ?
