  1. good luck, and mind the skin on your knuckles...
  2. g60 should pass the emissions test with our without a cat as long as the lambda sensor is fitted and working properly... that's what it's for... ;)
  3. make your own mark... use the screwdriver method above and you'll be able to find TDC pretty accurately... ;)
  4. wanna bet... The system was designed with the Rallye in mind which was a full on rally car running silly small pulleys on motorsport chargers... the system can happily deal with much, much higher boost levels than the standard charger can deal with simply by using a different MAP sensor... ;)
  5. ok, if you're certain that the timing marks are out on the flywheel (having tested it with a screwdriver/rod in the no.1 cylinder as I described before) then someone's fitted the wrong flywheel to your engine at some point... That's the only way that it can be wrong.
  6. nah, it's the seal that's gone if it's leaking from there... if it was a sheared impellor you'd know 'cos the engine'd be trying to melt itself adn a duff thermostat would either make the engine run cold or always hot depending on which way it was stuck...
  7. right, so it ran fine when you took it in to get the clutch done, and then when you came to get it back it's running like crud/not running at all? NOT injectors then... Earth strap is the usual culprit here, but you say you've checked that. Next culprit is the clutch fitters trying to start the car without the earth connected which causes the starter to try and earth through the ECU burning it out... although Daz has passed the ECU as healthy... After that, the things that could cause this kind of major overfuelling tend to be broken wires or disconnected sensors... check the wires and connectors to the ECU where it goes through the bulkhead (if the engine loom's been yanked, this is where it'll cut through), CO pot (can be quite a tight cable which can get yanked when dropping the gearbox out), Lambadadadaadada sensor wiring (engine swings at random angle when the gearbox is yanked out which pulls the wires tight and snaps 'em either at the connector on the rear engine mount, or on the way to the lambda sensor from that connector), and lastly, My favourite one.... the ECU to throttle body vacuum hose which will have been pulled tight wne the engine was loose in the bay as they removed the gearbox and which may have ripped, trapped or kinked in the process.... Hope this gives you some pointers to find the fault... 8)
  8. yup, that's the internal relief valve on the pump... it's designed to fail here if it goes wrong... 8)
  9. flywheel on a G60 will ONLY go back on in one orientation... the bolts holes are spaced to prevent it going on any other way... ALWAYS go with the flywheel for timing, and if you're not sure: Remove all the plugs Turn the engine by hand until you see the TDC mark on the flywheel Check on the cam that both valves are closed on No1 (ie both lobes are pointing away from the cam followers) Carefully stick a screwdriver into No1 sparkplug hole so it's touching the top of the piston. Turn the engine by hand either way from the TDC mark (ie turn it a few degrees clockwise, then back to the TDC mark and then back past TDC in an anticlockwise direction... ) The screwdriver should drop into the cylinder which ever way you turn it from the TDC mark on the flywheel.... if not, then you're probably on the 6degree mark, or someone's really messed about with the engine in the past and you no-longer have a timing mark! This is how I've timed my engine up in the past as I have no timing marks on my engine other than the flywheel marks due to a Kent Vernier pulley and toothed pulleys on the Aux belts! Hope this helps... 8)
  10. just as an interesting aside... there's a lambda sensor that VAG did for some late MKII golfs which will fit into this location... makes me wonder if there's a wide band one that'll fit in there so that you can hook up an accurate gauge without having to add in another bunghole into the exhaust... ;)
  11. if you need one due to losing boost through the ISV, then you need to find out WHY you need one, rather than bodging a valve into the system to stop the boost bleeding off... I don't think that Bosch would spend all that money developing the Digifant system when a simple ball bearing in a conical tube would have done the job do you? ;)
  12. Jesus Phat, that's truely awe inspiring stuff there... I was playing with the idea of a cage in my G60 at some point, but after seeing that, I'd never be happy with anything less than that... :notworthy: And those brakes... they're gonna stop the car pretty sharply (as long as you use decent fluid... ;) ) Can't wait to see this in the flesh once more... 8)
  13. nah, matt flourescent green... goes soooo well with black... ;) Good to see this motor getting back into the scene again... 8)
  14. yup, they're reflective... the only thing that's slightly dubious about my 'ssat's plates are that they're in the Euro font, but the size, spacing, colours and country symbol are all correct, so I'm hoping that no-one will say anything... ;)
  15. I know what you mean... I prefer them with the plate in the middle too... 8) Pressed steel plate came from a show about 10 years ago (just before the golf came off the road for the rebuild she's still waiting for... ) however I'm reasonably certain that http://www.theplateman.com will do 'em... I just got some pressed steel GB badged Euro plates for my 'ssat from them and they're excellent... 8)
  16. see.... even the thought of it sends most people screaming off away from my car... :D 8)
  17. only if the plates "were manufactured after...." and of course, your Corrado is older than that date so the plate was there before the new regulation... ;)
  18. there's plenty of things you can trigger electrically that'll make someone think twice before they ever try to steal a car again... ;) Oh, and that'll make it damned obvious that something is going on with said car and that someone REALLY should get the police over to it ASAP... ;)  Let's just say that whoever is in the vehicle when it's activated won't be able to see much (once the car's stopped), and definately won't be able to hear a lot for a fair old while... :ignore:
  19. deffo get the cat1 first... it'll stop the oportunist thief from joy-riding your Corrado pretty well... It's the gits who know what's in my car and what it'd be worth in bits who'd either pull the car onto a trailer or nick the keys and car-jackers that I wanted to stop with the tracker... helps that I've modded mine so that I can kill the engine (and activate a couple of other interesting devices at the same time ;) :onfire:  ) with a simple text message to the car... 8)
  20. mine didn't actually knock anything off the insurance premium as I've already got a cat1 alarm/immobiliser on the car anyway, so get the max security discount from that... but they were a lot happier about the agreed value amount knowing that it was on there... ;) Last one I saw on ebay (was about 9 months ago was when I last looked) went for around £150...
  21. yeah, that sounds about right then... I'm pretty certain that BMs use tapered bolts instead of domed ones... :)
  22. what were your B's designed to fit though (ie, what's your offset?) 16"x7.5 C's were all designed for domed and I'm pretty certain that the As are the same...
  23. mine's a Trak-M8 classic... it's one of the very early models, so is quite big by todays standards and doesn't have some of the "bells and whistles" that some of the newer ones have... the reason I like it is that it doesn't report to a service center, it reports to any mobile phone YOU set it to, so you stay in control of it AND therefore don't have an annual service charge... 8) I think mine's the equivalent of their new T4 unit... difficult to say to be honest as the technology's come a long way since mine was made... :| There's a few other similar systems available now... I think I paid £350 for mine about 4 years ago now, but it's deffo been worth it as it's been used as proof I wasn't speeding in a car accident, stopped that garage joy-riding in my car and given me peace of mind that my car IS still where I left it! *edit* ooh, just found this which is EXACTLY the one I've got in my car... :) Don't think it's still available, but at least it'll give you an idea... I have seen them on ebay in the past, so it's worth keeping an eye on there... ;)
