Have you been looking at my website?!?

CorradoVR6-n.o.s, yeah they REALLY don't like mechanics, do they?!? My mate's a mechanic and was paying an extra third on his insurance compared to me when we both had MKI GTIs, I put a 16V engine in mine and was paying the same amount as he was with a 1.6! :? I had a real fight to get my insurance down to a reasonable level when I became a broadcast engineer... As soon as you say you work in Radio, they assume you're going to give famous people lifts all the time who will sue you for loss of earnings if you crash with them in the car... It took me ages to convince them that I just play with PCs and Wires all day and don't have famous people in my car...  I can't understand how what you do for a living can affect your premiums by as much as it does... I've been toying with the idea of changing career on and off for a while and keep asking the insurance companies how much difference it'll make... It's put me off a couple of jobs anyway!

I'll lock this one up now then... 8) HTH. 8)

Works fine for me Matt GTi :?

"One thing after another" OR Girls and Corrado's d
Henny replied to Brando's topic in General Car Chat
Yup... Car reversed into and headlamps/grill smashed, driver scarpers quick -> cost £600 2 weeks later, put the car into my garage... Litterally!  Scratched front wing, dunno how much to fix it as I've not had chance 'cos 3 days later... ...Head gasket goes -> Cost £150 + hire car (£90) Also got the head gas flowed while it was off! Crank bolt shears off 3 days after fitting newly flowed head -> Cost £???? So far it's cost me the best part of 3K, but I'm kinda going overboard with the work I'm doing on it...   Bad 2 months that was... And the mad thing is that I still love the car to bits and miss her like mad! I can't wait to get her back on the road... Totally insane! :? Can I explain this irrationality? nope! Does just about every other 'rado owner know EXACTLY what we mean? YUP! -
Yup, it's bonded in... When I scrapped my first C (after writing it off! ) the breakers just left the side windows and windcreen in 'cos they reckoned that they'd just break if you tried to remove 'em anyway... :?

Stainless mid/front section onto a Remus backbox.
Henny replied to ross.taylor's topic in Engine Bay
Jim, if it's '90 16V it's a 1.8 KR engine and so won't have a cat to start with! 8) ross.taylor, the standard 1.8 16V manifold is pretty good, but responds well to a bit of porting and flowing. The other 2 (3? I forget how many boxes are on a 16V! ) boxes can be replaced with something like a Miltek or a Magnex system which should help the breathing, but you won't gain many ponies from upgrading the exhaust on a 1.8 16V as it's not particularly restrictive to start with... 8) -
I've moved this as it's not a wanted item... 8)

Which engine has your Corrado got in it, and what year is it? Info like this will always help people to help you... 8) Bummer about the accident, that's never good... :? Working second hand door handles are like hens teeth... somewhat rare! :? Try GPC for a new one (about £45 IIRC) or have a search here for "passat handles" The window problem sounds like a dead switch with a short in it. It would be easier to diagnose if we know what year your car is, as there's 2 different types of switch... Bouncing up the road and bad idle sounds like a dodgy/dirty Idle Stabilisation Valve (ISV), or, if it's a G60, a dodgy vaccuum hose, again, do a search here for ISV or Vaccuum hose and there's LOADS of info on them.... 8) If your spoiler is only working in the wet, I'd say it probably need lubricating! It's a fairly easy job to open up the mechanism and grease it all up, and it should make the movement a lot smoother. Welcome to the forum, by the way! :D

I've heard of insurance companies invalidating exisiting insurance policies as soon as you ask about the cost of putting a Nitrous kit onto the car... If you do fit the kit, and don't declare it on your insurance, just make sure that the bottle is not in the car when you are on the road else you're not insured if the worst does happen... :?

Lamba Sensor & where to buy tappets & valvesprings f
Henny replied to aposegil's topic in Engine Bay
2 litre 16Vs will have a probe as they have a cat, 1.8 16Vs had nothing as complicated as a knock sensor, never mind a lambda sensor! Alex, as you've never had a lambda sensor on your motor, (it did start life as a 1.8 didn't it?) you have free reign on which sensor you use... You could try and find the cheapest, or go for a wide band it depends on why you want the AF gauge... 8) -
Kev? Here's your diagram... 8)

He's moved the thread to the interior forum would be my guess...

Anyone thought about the Blaupunkt units? They've got some cracking models out at the moment which will do CD, MP3, Memory card, AM, FM, and DAB out of the box and have CD multiplayer control as well... Good sound, more features than most will ever use and not bad prices too... 8) just a thought.... I was considering getting one until I got hold of my Clarion TV system cheap...

I can happily get that res on most of my 17"CRTs and even some of the 15"s will do it... :? My 15 or 16" TFTs won't do it though due to the way that they are designed... :(

Quantum is the VAG own brand of alarm. I don't know if the factory one is Thatcham certified, but if it's playing up and you're worried about the car being safe, I'd have it removed and a nice new Thatcham Cat1 alarm/immobiliser installed. 8) Cat1= Certified Alarm + Self arming immobiliser Car2= Certified Self arming immobiliser (no alarm) Cwt3= Certified mechanical immobiliser device. (not many about) A good Cat1 system should cost you in the region of £300 fitted (has to be fitted by a certified fitter to get the certification for your insurance) A good Cat2 can be had for around £100. Every car I've owned, I've had the original alarm removed and a new one fitted for my own peace of mind... I then KNOW that no-one else has a fob that will open/disarm my car... 8)

Just out of curiosity, does the rear washer work? It's quite common for the pipe to rip around the hinge in the bootlid causing it to leak water out... This could cause your rear window to steam up... :?

At the moment the car's putting out a WHOPPING 0BHP and 0Lb/ft torque... I only picked the block up on Sunday, so it's sat in my garage waiting for me to build it! I have no idea what she'll be pulling when she's finished, but I know that she'll be a very torquey little lump! 8)
-
How long do you want it to last? :? Most tuning companies tend to say that around 83mm is the best compromise on a 1.8 short block as it retains enough "meat" around the cylinders so that they won't crack too easily. You can go bigger, but you start making the cylinder walls weaker and most people won't then guarantee how long the block will last... Have a word with some of the guys on here about re-bores... I spoke to both John (16VG60) and Darren (G-man) about building my new bottom end (oo-err!) when I was researching it as both seem to offer a pretty good package for reasonable money... There's plenty of other companies that do rebores as well such as C&R enterprises, stealth and TSR, but not many do too much with the PG block (1.8 G60) so it all depends on if yours is a G60 or a KR 1.8 16V... 8) Hope this helps... 8)

Hello to all those I met today! It was nice meeting up with you all and saying Hi! to the few that I managed to get to chat to.... 8) Oh, and it only took me 5.5 hours to get home...

Ooh, nice idea... I like that... 8) also a good idea... I'm half way through building one of these, and that was my first thought... I'm also thinking about putting in a switch so that I can flick it to "night" setting and make it much dimmer... If I get really carried away, I may even put in a light sensor and make it dim automatically!  Looks good so far though stormseeker 8)

I've just bought a set of Autometer Pro-comp ultra-lite gauges which is a 30PSI pressure and 30In/Hg vaccuum gauge. It uses a lightbulb in the back for illumination and comes with 2 filters that you fit to the bulb so that he illumination can be red or green. I also bought an electrical oil pressure and electrical oil temp gauge at the same time... 8) Have a word with G60Jet about LHD A pillar pods as I know he's either just fitted, or is just about to fit some... 8)
