 @ Stevemac... Arrow3 VR6 if it's a dampness related problem, then I know that VR6s have problems with cracks in the coilpack insulation which would cause bad idling and possible stalling if it's damp outside... Does your car have a traditional looking distributor, or a big block with the spark plug leads attached? If it's the latter, then this is your coilpack. 8) Have a quick search for "coilpack" here and you'll find a load of bits and pieces about them... 8)

The control box for the electric windows is in the rear right hand side panel. It's an ECU looking box with a load of wires going in/out of it. Why do you need to find this? what's stopped working? :?

Check the seal around the top of the boot lid. Remove the rear seats and have a look under the carpet in the back of the car, there's several rubber gromets around there which, if missing, could allow water into the car. Check that your rear wash/wipe works. If no water is coming out (and it's not frozen! ) then the pipe could have split/come off and could be leaking water into the rear of the car. Check the drains on the sunroof, there's one in each corner. It means dropping the roof lining out, but if one of the rubber tubes has come loose then it could be leaking into the car rather than draining out as it's supposed to. :? If the guy you bought the car off had a big stereo, he may well have put some random holes in the floor to hold down amps and the like, it's worth getting under the car and checking for these as well, as it only takes a small hole to let a lot of water in! :? yup. If your front carpets are dry, then it's unlikely to be the matrix! 8) Hope this helps.... Good luck! 8)

The RS uses a clever type of diff which is much more active than a standard LSD. I don't know too much about it, or how it works, but that's why it's difficult to drive on the roads 'cos it's a track developed diff. A Quaiffe in a 'rado should be a very good upgrade, and is something I'm seriously looking into getting... 8)

Ok, after a quick search, try here.... :D Heater Matrix changing guide thread Good luck! 8)

Hiya! when I bought my G60 I had this exact problem. You can rev to redline without the gas pressed too far down, but can't press the gas to the floor without it bogging down, spluttering, hesitating and not wanting to go... :? Your problem is that one of the vaccuum hoses has either come off, or has developed a leak. In the scuttle panel (next to the windscreen wiper motor, just in front of the windscreen) you'll find your ECU. Attached to the ECU there should be a thin pipe which is EXACTLY 1m long. (it's important that it's exactly 1meter long! I don't know why, but it is! :? ) This pipe should go into the engine bay and attach to the back of the throttle body. It's this pipe that allows the ECU to know what your engine is doing throttle wise, so that it can adjust the timing to match. If it's missing, or damaged your fueling and timing will be a mile off and so you'll get problems while going for full throttle (or even just close to full!)... That would be my first one to check, then just have a look at the rest of the vaccuum pipes to make sure they're all OK too... The good thing is that vaccuum pipe is VERY cheap, and VERY easy to fit and should cure your problem once and for all when you find which one it is! 8) The G60 ECU has no memory, so there's no reset procedure for it. It'll just start running properly when you solve the problem! 8) Good luck!

By stiffener, do you mean the V shaped bit where the horns are bolted onto? Humm, I've been looking into this as a mounting position for a front mount too... I'd be interested to see what yours looks like too... 8)

Blown, I feel for you mate... Mine's been off the road for too long now and I miss driving it sooooooo much... :( At least I've got the thought that she's gonna be soooooo much better when I put her back together to keep me going, but it's hard to walk past her every morning and get into a MKII golf driver without feeling a pang of loss... :? I had to send off the SORN notification yesterday... That hurt... :? Just keep thinking, at least you've still got the car, and you'll be able to drive it again next year! 8)

Could well be a sticky peddle, it's worth having a quick look at it to make sure before you start going into the plumbing side of the clutch... If you think about it, it's easy to contaminate the peddle box with muck off your shoes which could cause a stiff spot... :?

1.8 KR 16Vs only said DOHC VW on the manifolds... Dunno about the 2.0 16Vs 'cos I've not played with one yet... 8)

Dubster82's probably right... On the end of the shaft that holds the numbers for the milage read-out, there's a little gear that sometimes comes loose (or is "adjusted" to clock the car... ) which will stop the milage changing... If it's just slipped, it's not too bad a job to sort it out... If it's damaged, then I'm not sure how you'd go about fixing it/ getting a new one... :?

Don't I just!  225K miles and counting! OK, the engine is basically just an 8V GTI engine with a few mods to help/let it take the G60's power better... If it's been looked after (like mine had until the last one or two owners) then you can happily do starship mileage with few problems, as long as the servicing has been taken care of... 8) By the sounds of things I got one of the last good Jabba services for G60s as I found their service excellent, and their aftersales was great, although I never had to phone them after picking the car back up from them, and compared to newer prices, what I paid was quite heavy (but not too much!)... I'd agree that an unloved (and unserviced) charger is the weak link in the G60 'rado, and if it's got no history then you should be very careful... That said, mine came with little to no service history, but was a good price which made up for it... I was just unlucky that I missed that it's been clocked... 8)

DubWhizz had the -80mm kit on his G60 Golf and it was REALLY low! I've driven it with this kit on and I have to say that it handled and drove really well, especially when you considered that it is as low as it is... 8) It felt better than my MKII golf when I had it, and that was only lowered 30mm on a Euro car parts kit... :? After driving that, I went for the Venom supplied Supersport coilovers just 'cos the guy there (I really must try to remember names!) recommended them! 8)
-
Neither can I!   Thanks... 8) Not long now... I get my block back on the 30th which gives me a month to re-build it... It only took 8 solid hours of work (on my own!) to get it to this stripped stage, so I'm guessing that I can get it back together in the 2 weeks off I've got for Xmas... :? 8)

Is this with the car stationary, or while it's moving? Power steering will complain about having to turn the wheels when the car is stationary, and this could make a sound kind of like a hissing noise... It shouldn't be very loud and shouldn't be audible while moving...
-
there ya go Kev, that's why you haven't got the valves then! 8) Another mystery solved... ...and with no pesky meddling kids involved!

Whereabouts on the engine is the oil? All over, just on the lower, upper, front, back, sides? There's quite a few things that could cause it, including some muppet missing the oil filler hole when doing a service (yes, I have had that done to a car my parents used to own! and yes, I did think I'd killed it when I got home and noticed a puddle of oil under the car and smoke from the back of the engine!) Narrowing down where the oil is on the engine makes it a lot easier to be more specific and get your oily mess sorted out... 8)

I'm pretty sure nearly all VWs from that era were recalled because of this fault. I know that my mate's Passat was, my 16V 'rado was and all of the MKII golfs I've had were, dunno about Polos or any of the others that they made at the time though... After just doing a quick Google, the recall affected cars made after 85 and came in to affect in '92, so I'd guess that cars after 92 aren't affected as they'd have had the valves fitted as standard... 8)
-
Yeah, yeah... It's an old photo, OK?!?  8) I'd only just fitted that gear knob when I took the photo. Rest assured it's sorted now... well, OK, it's not actually at the moment 'cos there's not much of an interior in the car due to a new ICE install and a load of electrical work that's being done while the engine's out, but you know what I mean! I used the "gather and cabletie" method too Leavon. It's a good tip... :D Thanks for spotting that though, both of you, and suggesting good ideas to sort it... 8)

There's a load of sensors on the gearbox end of the head on a KR (1.8 16V) engine. It's possible that one of these has lost it's wire, become faulty or that the terminal has snapped off one of them  It's also possible, as andycowuk says, that the oil pump's gone... Check the sensors first... I'll have a look at my KR haynes manual (passat!) when I get home and let you know which sensors you should be looking for... 8)

I'll probably be driving a cheap beaten up MKIII Golf 1.6 while I'm rebuilding whatever my current nice car that I've just managed to blow up is, if my track record's anything to go by...  MKI 1.6 GTI -> MKI 1500 auto when the GTI got written off MKI 1.8 GTI -> MKI 1500 auto when the 1.8 died and I decided to 16V it... MKI 16V GTI -> MKI 1500 Auto regularly while I was at uni... Corrado 16V -> MKI Golf 1500 Auto when I wrote the 16V off MKII Golf GTI -> Astra 1.4 Merit when the Golf engine died... :pukeright: Corrado G60 (J-DUB) -> MKII Golf 1.6 Driver when the G60 engine died... (which I'm still driving now! ) Not a great track record over the last 8 years...  Actually, now I think on, that MKI 1500 Auto was easily the most reliable car I've ever owned and cost me the least... £500 to buy it. About £500 in bits over 4 years and I sold it for £600! 8)

VW did have a nasty habbit of doing odd things like this as they got close to a facelift... It wouldn't suprise me... Your best bets are to ask at a VAG stealer (may be able to tell you from Chassis number) or find someone close to where you live with a known age 'rado and park 'em side by side!  Good luck anyway LHD-G60

How much? That sounds an excellent idea having a swivel end on it... 8)

If I can help it, I'd like to keep the car standard looking from the outside... I still haven't found an ABS front bumper and am really not keen on buying a fibreglass one due to where I drive and how people park at work! :? Cheers anyway!

Mmmm, nice.... Hurry up! I need one in the next few weeks to get my C back on the road for the new year!
