Biggerbigben - Mates R32 Storm - MAPPED.. by friend&Myself!
Lizard Racing replied to biggerbigben's topic in Members Gallery
Storm do use the Emerald ecu, both Dave Walker at Emerld and Storm have been running sequentially for a year or so. Better driveability, smoothness and performance aswell as improved fuel consumption and emissions is why. I have the Emerald pin layout for sequential injection if you want it but the ecu will need re-configuring at Emerald to run it. Alex -

Ben are you running the Emerald with sequential injection and is it configured for an R32? -
You will not hear the air filter at all anymore, you loose all the induction noise when you bolt a blower on! What made you go for the 84 and not the 94?
-
Cheers Dave, The 3.6 is a very compact engine tbh, there is very little difference in size from the 12v it may even be slightly shorter! It is certainly lighter than the 12V engine I took out. The injectors are all still on the front but I removed the lower rail to work on the inlet flange. The holes can be seen in the second pic below. The top row of injectors are 3 time longer than the lower to reach through the engine to the rear bank of cylinders. I will just leave the FSI injectors in situ instead of blanking them off. Yeah think Andy has one running FSI and one regular injection. Very clever setups though, think they have cracked the drive by wire throttle too!
-
My target is just to get it running tbh. Not going to be pushing it too hard and low boostish, if something breaks it will be very expensive to fix! Audi wanted £9k + VAT just for an engine! Major headache so far has been injector angle because I am not using the FSI setup. Short runner just needs a bit of welding and cleaning up and then Ill be able to get things moving and bolting all bits on etc.
-
Its gone a bit quiet in this one so I thought I would post a couple of pics to wet your appetites!! Not really forced at the moment but it should be in a couple of weeks :D Alex

Impressive numbers mate, equally matched by an impressive setup! Do you have pics of the exhaust at all Shaun?

See if you can get hold of a trade card, Im sure I only paid £95ish on trade!

chargecooler or intercooler on Vr6 Supercharged
Lizard Racing replied to ANTIHERO's topic in Engine Bay
It was a 4" x 6". You can either wire the pump to the ignition live in the engine loom depending on current demand though, or use relay. -
Karl Im going to run 5W40 Fully in my R36 but thats because its brand new with 0 miles. 0W40 is too thin I reckon.

chargecooler or intercooler on Vr6 Supercharged

I doubt a PWR will fit between the Vortech and original throttle position. I know that I couldn't even fit a Pace chargecooler I had kicking about between my old Vortech and the throttle. Here is a PWR set up with a Rotrex charger. -
Wait until Ive finished my next Rotrex project in a couple of months until you make your mind up! Whats your main aim with the car? Power, driveability, reliability? P.S. Sold my little Rotrex this week :(
-
Whats up with the Rotrex idea then Karl?
-
Hit the nail on the head I reckon.

Bobby whos rollers was that on? Alex -
There will be another fuse for the switched live in the fuse box, you will need to pull every fuse out and visually check it will most likely be a red or blue one. Failing that why not splice the red and yellows together from the permenant 12v? Just remember to turn the unit off when you get out. The orange is illumination which Im surprised you are using.
-
I dont think its much to worry about due to the low mileage you will do. I know what you mean about turning left and right etc, but you will most of the time be going straight ahead therefore the angle will have an effect on the bearing load. I too have seen a few turbos mounted at strange angles but not generally cars that roll out of the factory with a turbo. They are either mounted North-South or transverse.
-
Imagine holding a cycle wheel in front of you, spin the wheel and try and twist it left and right, and you will see what I mean by gyro.
-
Very nice mate. Just one thing though, because the turbo flange is at an angle it may cause premature bearing failure due to the gyro effect on the compressor and turbine wheels. I doubt there is any way to avoid the angle though.
-
Rob did you loose all your traction oil? You can run Rotrexs very low to the point where there is hardly anything in the reservoir at all!
-
Yeah keep us posted, looks upto the job. Alex

Karl, Im sorry mate, Spoke to the supplier today after digging out my old invoice. £120+VAT EACH! Genuine Drilled Brembos though!
-
Im sure only paid £120 for my genuine Brembo drilled discs Karl. I can see if I can get you a set if you like? Cupra R fitment yes? Alex

For those who wanted to see my cooler set up. Taken with the only camera I could find at the time sorry. Its hard to see but the rad cowling has been slit to allow the rad to move back so its level. It was possible to squeeze a 2.5" thick cored intercooler in between the air con rad and the front cross member once it was cut flat.
