is my cars timing ok? and is there a rolling road near me?
nocrap replied to cardboard's topic in Engine Bay
Timing on a valver was very simple when i did it on mine, the problem was that very minimal movement on the cam is a lot bigger on the flywheel so it's much easier to set it up with a friend looking at the flywheel while you make fraction of a degree adjustments at the other end. Had no need to do anything with the ECU before of after. -
naaahhhhhh can't believe that......just get one on order from VW. When i replaced mine it improved the throttle by 100.76% and the old cable itself looked fine
-
Could be wrong but i think the valver ones are the same.....as for the stealers, as yours isn't actually broken yet I'd get one on order and possibly put a wanted up on here...someone must have a crappy one you can have just in case.
-
e-bay, £30ish looks half decent
-
So did you just swap in the old chip?
-
Thought i'd resurrect this thread......just wanted to know if the people who have used one of these chips have had any problems, etc?
-
is it a different stud to the one the tensioner pulley goes on to?
-
Sounds like a sensor or something playing up.......you can get a fault diag done with VAG-COM, this will only give you a rough guide to where the problem lies as the 9a isn't particularly well managed... If the car runs fine after restarting the engine it probably wont be an ignition fault....
-
when was the cam belt done last?
-
Yes I believe so, you'll probably need a different rear hanger though.......although, unlike the place i went to get mine fitted, an exhaust place should have all you need...
-
Do they flash when you put your hazards on? Possibly a fault with the stalk?
-
Yes it should last longer....but its GSF so what do you expect? It's going to need to come off the car anyway so just remove it take it into the shop and throw it at the person at the till for supplying another piece of crap...if you don't fancy that one then just handing it over and asking for a replacement will probably do the trick...
-
very easy, but fiddly.........should only take 20 mins
-
Is that a set for all round?
-
So they going to give the same treatment to bloody lorry drivers then?
-
Usually pennies from VW, halfords also do a few of them
-
urr no that sounds very wrong and dangerous......have you checked through your fuses to check that you've got the correct ratings?
-
Yes, a very common fault and a real git to change! make sure if you buy a new one that its a VW one not some cheap tat from GSF
-
Nope, you'll need the huge Bently manual for that....loads of threads on here about it.

Power is almost identical (check the wiki for more info) but for some reason insurance companies see fit to put the insurance group up by 2 for the 2.0! looks wise the 2.0 is better (IMHO) as its got all the later 'face lift' bits (bigger arches, bulge bonnet, etc). As for reliability.......well its a corrado so that can be a bit touch and go, so long as you can keep on top of the mechanical stuff you'll be fine! oh and bother are injected engines.
-
Yes but it is a Corrado...what do you expect
-
According to their web site they only seem to do one for the 16v...cost for the VR one(s) from VW is just over £20.
-
and even then it still a git, if you can find a deep socket that'll fit you should be able to take it off without a problem
-
http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/ is where you need to go, all very easy!

Other than looking for something weird interfering on the cable somewhere you can replace the coolant sensor for a couple of quid and check out the outside temp sensor connections, which is located on the front right side of the bumper i believe
