Was just looking to swap over the bell housing, i've read its the same on all the 02A boxes, just really to find out if it's a relatively straightforward job?!
-
Hi folks, tried a search and got a few answers but just looking for some more advice  The front engine mount bracket attatches via three bolts, 2 through the starter motor and 1 attatches to the bell housing. The one on the bell housing has sheared off (was like this when i bought it). I've got a spare 1.8 16v box from a corrado, so is it possible to swap the bell housing from this on to my G60 box? And is this an straight forward job?

AFAIK they can painted black from the factory, don't know the reasoning for it :?

Good work matey :D keep the photos coming
-
No bother matey, glad i can bounce somethings off someone who is doing it at the same time :D My neighbours must hate me  16v rado lying in the driveway, G in the garage and my mk2 is parked where ever there is a space  Yeah defo think more space could help at the charger side, thats why i removed my bracket altogether  I mentioned the longer screw in my first post i think, pretty sure thats how the rallye rad is attactched as well, so maybe a screw is available from vag?! Tab got the grinder on mine too, on both sides  theres enough contact points on the slam panel anyway  Hacksawed the peg off then used a soldering iron to plastic weld it back on. The rad plastic is quite gritty but just make sure you run the iron oVer it enough so that the two plastics bond together and you should be ok :D The rallye u-bend i posted is the same one G-werks sell, i was on the phone to rob and said they were sold out but i could go direct. They may be back in stock now, this was a few weeks back.

You don't hang about neil  Don't mean to sound stupid but why can't you go too heavy with paint on the ic fins? is it a matter of stopping them cooling as efficiently? Hopefully give mine a lick of paint before it goes on :D
-
Hey Rob, maybe try taking the boost return off see if it helps with the clearance? I believe the 'tab' that g-man is talking about is the metal one on the chassis leg that the slam panel bolts to, because it gets in the way of the ic outlet :D you know the one I mean? you probably removed/bent it without realising  I agree with what your saying the guides etc I read are the same ones you have and I thought they look easy too  but suprisingly i've not had any real clearance issues :D Got some pics of mine tonight, hopefully they will help :D http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u242 ... 20install/ Peg Relocation-Picture 003 Clearance between rad and ic-Picture 007 They basically should run side by side like this(I think  )-picture 008 Clearance from charger-picture 010 From the front- picture 011 and 012 Sorry my photos must be too big they wouldn't upload :( Only other thing i can think that would be stopping the ic sitting right would be the clearance against the toeing eye? Is it hard up against it when it's located in the correct pegs? didn't look like it in your pics though Oh and if your looking for rallye u-bends and you don't mind a replica http://www.rp-motorsport.de/en/g-lader/g60-tuning.htm (half way down the page) Andy
-
Nice work rob :D do you mean the boost return pipe? I wouldn't know the clearance issues there, i've removed mine  Not had any problems with the rad or fan on mine, after i realised i needed about and inch on the charger side, i relocated the radiator and all seems to be fine :D stick up yours pics, would be good to see how youv'e approached it  I'll try and gets some pics up, to show you how mine is sitting hard to describe everything eh?! just trying to get a free minute to do it  Are you going to be using a rallye u-bend or making something up? Andy
-
I'm fitting one at the moment and i over came the radiator problem by cutting the nipple off the radiator (1 nearest the charger) and plastic welding it back on an inch further forward :D not finished yet but seems to sit right. Also have to find a slightly longer screw and you can fix the ic and rad together through the hole on the outlet side (front face) of the ic. if that makes any sense  You need to do some trimming to the top of the ic to clear the slam panel and the bonnet cable, not done it on mine yet but theres a write up in the wiki and darren (g-werks) identifies the areas needing trimmed :D HTH Andy

Cheers supercharged I'll have to see if i can pull some strings with buddies at vw  I'll definately check my chassis number but should be right, my G is a '92 :D
-
It's reasonably easy, can be a bit tight slotting in a OE new mount but if you get a solid one they are easy to put in :D jack up car and secure Remove 15mm on top of mount 2nd jack under gearbox (use wood to support between jack and gearbox) and lift engine till it clears mount Remove the 17mm and the 13mm on underside of front cross member And finally remove the mount :D As the immortal words of haynes go, 'refitting is the reversal of removal' May not be how everyone does it but thats how I do
-
Supercharged- I'm interested to know where you got your price for the rad support panel? VW quoted me £230 including vat this morning
-
Is this one of three then neil :norty: Will keep an eye out :D
-
So they are readily availible from vag? mine is rotted through :? Is the part number as above? Are the rubber bushes the ones in the front cross member?
-
Been thinking about this recently too :D really for the charge cooling, so be interesting to find out a bit more about it 8) Only thing that puts me off is the whole chav look with a NOS bottle stuck in your boot  could maybe hide it
-
Good progress there neil 8) you doing the welding yourself? Is the bumper just gunna be standard or are you going to cut the plate recess out?

Possibly the distance sensor on the gearbox, causes the speedo to jump around and bounce, easy fix 2-min job and a new part from vag (£20 iirc) :D If you use search you should find the part no. etc in previous posts 8) EDIT: Oops, just read your other post if if it's a cable it probs won't be this

Surely that front plate isn't legal?!

Mocal Oil Cooler Just fitted - Question ... ?
just_say_meth replied to willg60's topic in Engine Bay
Yeah thermostatic sandwich plates are available, thats what i've got, takes a while to heat up but keeps it nice and steady :D I've heard there is a smaller G60 filter you can get without the nut on the bottom, either that or grind off the nut, should clear the front crossmember then 8) -
Mocal Oil Cooler Just fitted - Question ... ?
just_say_meth replied to willg60's topic in Engine Bay
Yeah those are mk1 gti water hoses, either get them off g-werks or order up from vag :D I guess you have already done it but you don't have to cut up the threaded tube, you can just use one from a mk1 gti as well, it's exactly the same as what you get by cutting the g60 one down :D -
Cheers mate, got it completely off today, used a combo of hacksaw and grinder but not at the same time obviously  Gunna grind it smooth and seal it properly, should see the test of time :D
