I also have nothing against the newer mini's, apart from the clubman of course. Luke Massy (Plush automotive) has a bloody gorgeous mini cooper s. As for the 500, i think the only one i could see myself driving would be the Abarth version, hits 60 in 7secs, and thats from the 135bhp version. There are rumours of a 200bhp versions being built, looking at below 6secs 0-60, thats scooby territory

Oh no, its definately not boring! I've been having a look on the Fiat website, the interior looks better than anything i've seen for a while! The seats look quality, i love the sound of the decent hifi setup, and the optional even better one. Its definately not boring, its just seems a lil too 'european', if that makes sense, almost (dare i say this) camp. I dunno, i just couldnt imagine myself driving one. Unless i wore suade brown shoes and those small scarves, that aren't really scarves.

Ah ha, so here's the thread, i knew that really Walesy........

Firstly, sorry if a similar thread has been made, but i haven't found it. Anyway, am i the only one that is very intrigued by the new Fiat 500? I dont mean the bog-standard 1.2 jobbies, they're far too 'european chic' for me, im talking about the meaty Abarth models. I've seen the 1.4 turbo version in EVO, pushing 120-130bhp i believe, 0-60 in 8secs. Looks bloody nice too, and for £12k. But i've also heard rumours of an Abarth SS version, looking at 200bhp......Now that would be something. Having said that i also like the Mitsubishi colt, and there was rumours of a Colt Evo being developed, essentially a colt with a 250bhp engine.......

I saw some pics of it in the recent EVO mag. I've gotta say, im not impressed. It looks far too similar to all the other corsa/punto/focus type things out there, for me it doesn't stand out from the crowd in the same way as the TT does for example. Plus, how is it even a coupe? Surely its a hatchback? Can what ever happened to the days when a hatchback was a hatchback, a saloon was a saloon etc? Now we have hatchback/coupe type things, saloons made into coupes etc etc. NO NO NO NO. I'd much rather have a Fiat 500 Abarth SS............

Worrying things that garages say......
skinnyman9000 replied to skinnyman9000's topic in General Car Chat
True. It just worries me that it 25yrs he's never seen a KR lump, ya know? -
I rang a garage local to me today to sort my idling problem out. They've been going for YEARS, so you'd assume they're quite good. I told him it was a 1990 1.8 16V rado, and explained the problem. He then asked me if i had any failure lights on the dashboard, again i explained it was a 1990 car, so no. He then said he could take a look at it, but they dont have diagnostic equipment. Again i explained that he doesnt need it, its an old engine. Despite this i still deciding to book it in because with an idle of 2.5kish i cant really drive too far. Then the final question from him. Is it a petrol or diesel? Now im sorry, but if a mechanic doesnt know what engine the KR lump is then he isnt worth poop!! I understand that he has to know about a vast amount of cars, but after 20 years experience are you telling me that he doesnt know what a corrado is?!?! Or that he has never seen a KR lump before?!? Im not a mechanic, but if you give me the make, model, year AND engine size of a car i can pretty much tell you if its a diesel or not!?! Am i being unreasonable to think that a mechanic with 25yrs experience should know the answers to these questions already?

I've had enough of mine, its goin in the garage on tues!

Yes. 18 months ago i bought my 1990 valver with 118k on the clock for £1800!! My how times have changed!

Just driven my bros 8vgolf, and my 16v is boring compared

doesnt the 16v golf and 16v rado weight the same? The golf was built as a fun town car, the rado as a motorway cruiser. I think anyway -
I did this. Some may remember my post in here, saying i'd had enough and wanted to sell up in favour of a newer car (seat ibiza, ford focus etc etc). But i couldnt. Despite the fact its a royal pain in the arse, i cant sell it

Well when the oil pump went the spanner monkeys at the local garage overfilled it, so that probably didnt help. I took that pipe off that's mentioned above and there was some nice white gunk blocking the end of it. I've cleaned it out, hopefully solving the problem. If not i'll hopefully get hold of one from a scappy, sod paying £80 for one!!

Firstly, im not a quiz with engines so please be gentle if what im saying sounds complete tripe. But basically, in a bid to solve my idling problem, ive just taken apart the air intake pipes and the air filter housing to find oil everywhere! There is a puddle of oil in the bottom of the air filter housing, and i have oil coating the inside of the air intake pipes between the air filter housing and the throttle housing! There is also a small amount of oil in the pipes leading from the air intake pipes to the ISV. Basically there appears to be oil in alot of places where it doesn't belong. So really i need to know, what the hell is going on!?!?!

Dude, i've had mine for 18 months, its spent 8 of those on my driveway, i've spent just shy of £2k, now i have this throttle problem and the master cylinder is knackered, and after the MOT it's going in the bodyshop for some repair work, coming in at just under £600. Then when you add on my sound system to that........
-
I think the gearbox attached to the KR lump in a mk2 golf is different to that in a Corrado. Mk2's feel nippier around town, but rado's seem faster at higher speed, all to do with the gear ratios. People seem to think the mk2 golfs are lighter, but there is literally a few kilos between a mk2 valver and a rado valver
-
You could always strip everything you dont need and then see if you can swap any bits for tuning gear, technically you haven't purchased anything then

I had the same dilema with mine, whether to sell up and buying something else, break it etc. At the time i had a knackered front wing, a dent in the roof, a throttle problem, a knackered master cylinder, and no MOT. So at the time it was worth sod all as a complete car, even with the rebuilt engine. But i've decided to stick with it. The master cylinder is being replaced within a few weeks, the throttle problem is being investigated (albeit slowly), and ive raised some money for some bodywork. If you're struggling for cash i'd store it for a while. Or if you decide to break it i'll be able to get parts easier and the value of mine will increase

The window switches in mine are one touch. Although admittedly though dont fit into the doorcard very well. Then again it is an 18yr old piece of chipboard!
-
I also have a 1990 tornado red valver. Clearly the best C money can buy :D
-
I am having the same problem with mine. I've had it pulling itself along, i've had the revs fluctuating at standstill, and now it just sits at 3k rpm on tickover. Ive cleaned the ISV and replaced, altho i cannot confirm that one ive replaced it with it is working 100%. Another thing ive noticed on mine is that when i turned the ignition off the rev needle dies immediately. The engine slows down as you would expect, but the rev needle drops to zero in an instant. Could this point to a sensor issue? The MOT has also ran out so i cant even drive it to a specialist for a once over :(
-
I think my H reg valver is one of the better specced ones available. Factory fitted leccy windows, electric wing mirrors, electric sunroof, adjustable steering column. Tooled up early valvers FTW :D
-
Ok. I have a 1990 1.8 16V. It idles at just above 3k, wont drop at all. Then when i turn the ignition off to rev needles drops straight down. Instead of slowly lowering with the speed of the engine it just instantly dies. Any idea? I've cleaned the existing ISV and replaced it with another (altho untested) one, and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. The problem is that the MOT has ran out, so i cant drive it to a garage, and even if i could the revs are far too high anyway. I'm hoping to rope in a VW nut from work to help, but anything i can do before hand will be a bonus. Cheers for any help.
-
Thats exactly why i'll be going with a specialist insurer and be getting an agreed value policy. My valver cost me £1800, and ive spent over £2k in getting it running and looking how i want, whilst keeping it completely standard, but i know that if it was stolen tomorrow i'd be lucky to get more than £800 out of my insurers
-
I'll have me some of that   Seriously though, oil controls sooooo much of the world its unreal. IF the government wanted it then we could all be driving around in hydrogen powered cars by now, but if they do that they'll be buggered, hence why we're not.
