  1. Makes me laugh how the G60 steels go for so much in comparison
  2. Gutted for you mate! Especially with it being in the family for so long. As said though, good luck with the plod, if you're lucky you'll get a crime number. This is why we have a CCTV camera pointing at our drive, hopefully it serves as a deterent, or gives the police something to work on.
  3. Has anyone read Clarkson's book 'i know you've got soul'. He talks about when machines fail/crash he feels sorry for the loss of the machine as much as the victims, such as the Concorde being pulled from service. I'd be the same with my C. If i damaged it beyond repair i would have a great sense of loss for it. Blooming cars, why cant it just feel like a car like my old clio did!
  4. I live in Derby myself. When i first got my C i went to Sunset VW a few times. However they didnt replace my brake caliper as requested, and then when they did they didnt set it up correctly, so it failed the MOT, and it was a suspected handbrake cable, so i ended up with a spare one when the MOT station came to replace it and they just realigned the calipers. Anyway, i had my engine rebuild done by Midland VW and i cant recommend them enough. Since the rebuild i've had no problems what so ever, the car doesnt skip a beat and it feels better than ever to drive. Firstly i would take it to them for a thorough service and a good look over. Get them to check everything mechanical, then once it has a clean bill of health you can crack on! First things first, with the winter coming, is some new wipers and headlight loom. Although i cant talk, i've had mine for over a year and i still havent done either of the above!
  5. Lets be honest though, crashing in a racing car DURING a race isnt really the same thing as what happened before is it. If there was an outcry everytime there was a motorsport crash they'd all be banned within a few days!
  6. Unfortunately we would be buggered if we crashed a C, just think yourself lucky you're not in a mk1 golf, they look like they would be crushed into a small cube! Fortunately for me i dont plan on having a 40mph head on collision with anything in the near future.
  7. So short of replacing the 2nd gear synchro whats the best way to prolong its life and attempt to get it changing gear better? It doesnt bother me so much that it needs pushing into gear as opposed to gently sliding it, i dont like gear boxes that feel like butter, i like to feel like im actually pushing it into gear, so i dont mind when it get stiff, its just when it doesnt want to go into gear that annoys me. Mainly because naturally once your arm has moved to the 2nd gear position you raised the clutch, where its in or not, its just a natural reaction. And so of course you get the horrible gear crunching noise, and you look like a tit
  8. My early valver cost me £1800 last year, and i've spent over £1600 on keeping it looking and working well, now it seems its worth less than half that, all the more reason to keep hold of it i guess :D I never full understood the massive price difference between model types though, i mean early valver go for as low as £500, and VR6's can go for over £4k. I'd rather have the car i have noW and turbo it as opposed to selling it and buying a VR6.
  9. I can't find the kit on the site at the minute, but Bahn Brenner used to offer an 8V turbo kit for around £800, claimed to add 50% power to the standard package, so that could be an option. Would probably cost slightly more than the 16V swap, but at least you'd be able to keep the 8V engine, a have a fairly unique car at the same time.
  10. 2nd gear is becoming difficult to locate, normally after coming from 1st, when changing down it seems fine, but its beginning to be a pain to drop it into 2nd after 1st. Is this the beginning of the dreaded gearbox failure?
  11. Hmmmm. I dont like it when a problem can have a number of causes, mainly because you can bet your bottom dollar that the last thing i replace will solve the problem. So now im looking at a new barrel/starter motor and solenoid, doh!
  12. Well i am surprised by that, usually all the jobs on the C are easy  To be honest i dont think i've come across any easy job yet, apart from removing the base of the rear seats, they pretty much just fall out!
  13. I've had an intermitent problem with the Rado recently. I'll open the car via the alarm fob, put the key in the ignition then attempt to start the car. Everything electrical fires up, as in the dash, the fuel pump etc, but it doesnt start. So if i just turn the gear back to its start position, then try again, the car fires up. Also sometimes when i turn the key to start it there will be a sort delay of a second or two, then it fires up. Is this likely to be down to the 17yr old alarm system? Or is the ignition barrel on the way out? Any help appreciated.
  14. My last run around (which is gone now) cost me £100. Mk2 polo saloon, 4 weeks tax+4 weeks MOT, 80k, full service history, sorted. I sold it for £50 thinking it would fail the MOT on the suspension, as you could bounce it with your finger. Turns out the new owner got it through first time!
  15. Ebay and paypal are slowly turning into the devil! A mate of mine sold his stainless exhaust system off his escort RST, he got £200 for the exhaust through paypal. He sent it off and then the buyer decided he hadn't recieved the item, opened a complaint with paypal, and they just took the £200 back off my mate! Paypal make no attempt to hear both sides of the story, they just took the money off him, no questions. And when he emailed paypal about the problem all they would say is hat the dispute has been closed!
  16. ??? Most early cars came with the same spec as the late ones, electric windows, mirrors, sunroof, "rare Karman interior" etc. My late VR has nothing the early valver doesn't True, i was thinking more in comparison to the storm and ever so rare campaign models. To be honest i prefer my early valver over the later ones. I drove a few 2.0's when i was looking for mine, and i just preferred the feel of the older models, not sure why. Also dont be put off by the poor 0-60 times of the G60 in comparison to the valvers, i think they're roughly the same. Its due to the fact that the G's have to change to 3rd to reach 60, whereas the valvers dont.
  17. As said above, the KR lump is not a fast engine, and without the injection of a turbo into the mix you'll struggle to see anything useful. Although i do believe there is a user based in the US that has obtained 200BHP from a 2.0L NA lump, whether this is from the 9a in the rado or the ABF from the golf i could not say. The earlier models are basic in comparison to the later models. Having said that i prefer this, my early valver is old, and it knows this. The interior is fairly basic and square, unlike some of the later VR models that boast leather and such. Oh, and if you can get a non sunroof model, buy it! The sunroofs are a complete pain in the bottom
  18. Thats what i heard too. I've read a few reviews of the engine and people weren't impressed. I think a 1.4 is far too small for the size and weight of a golf, despite it having the turbo/supercharger combination, at the end of the day, the lump is still a 1.4. I think it would work better with the 2.0L TSI, and possibly the V6 too. Although as has been said, i'm very unimpressed with the sneek peek shots, and if i was after a VAG sports coupe i think they'll struggle to beat the new TT
  19. you reckon? it looks like the overall shape, front grille, even the wingmirrors look very similar o and i just thought i'd share a bit of info on the beasty i found out last week from a contact at vw, apparently its going to have a 1.6tsi motor with somewhere in the region of 230bhp and is due out August 08[/quote:38c70] I heard the turbo/supercharger combination was rather shocking? Anyone else hear this?
  20. I have a completely standard valver with a nice dent in the front wing where i crashed, but im still goin
  21. Its a earler valver. On the lever that dictates where the heater blows (air vents, windscreen etc), well, ive broken it. It often gets stuck on the headunit wires when moving from left to right, so i gave it a tug and it snapped. Its odd tho, the piece of plastic that has come off doesnt appear snapped, so it looks as though it has just been pulled off something. Basically, how do i fix this? And please dont tell me i'll be removing half the dash board!
  22. £25 a day for what? what what what what?!? Is this in connection with the new vehicle taxing laws?
  23. I think it was a case of he wasnt pulling away that quickly, a tenth or two a lap. I dont think he REALLY lost out in anyway by moving over anyway. 14th place in the last 10-15 laps of a race, i dont think there was much hope. In regards to the championship, I think Massa is well out of the running. I wouldnt be suprised if Raikennon overtakes Alonso in points. That would be cool if VW joined F1, always pondered why they never have. It would be cool. 8) I heard last year a rumour that they were looking at it. I dont see why they cant, with the resources they have to pull together. Porsche cup, VW cup Seat cup, Audi in Le mans etc etc, surely they could put up a decent fight. They need more constructors anyway, Ferrari now has 3 teams!
  24. Toad Ai606 was the last alarm i had fitted. It cost £350 and it had full closure and bodywork protection (very good), but that was 2 yrs ago, not sure on prices now. Im surprised there hasn't be a replacement for this yet as it is relatively old, although i suppose they have the approach of "not broke, dont fix"
