Fair one! I assumed that's what you meant, but I had to be sure  Just as an aside, I'm pretty sure that PAS was standard on all models, it was the ABS/Electrics/sunroof that were originally optional extras... This document is pretty good for stuff like that (although it is US biased)... http://www.corrado-club.ca/media/Corrado_History.pdf DtM.

What cars have you driven previously? In my experience (during a previous job I where I had a lot of different hire cars), things like pedal stiffness, gear changes & PAS systems varied enormously. I seem to remember there was one that had a selectable PAS system, nicknamed the 'girlie button'. It made the steering so featherlight it was really scary to drive with  Also, turning the wheel when stationary is bad, no? I'd think you need a little movement, even if it's just on the clutch... I would say that the Corrado is certainly not as easy to turn as most modern cars I've driven... DtM.

What's even worse is seeing the cars you share the group with, including a boxster, elise & VX220...and an Impreza Turbo FFS  ...still I wouldn't take any of them over mine... 8) ...although if anyone wants to swap their VR, I could be tempted  DtM.

Indeed, and as for my little "AMD Corrado" :D , well I could suggest it's also one of the last ever made so that should add another £2K easy right? According to the notes I made when I bought it, the last Corrado off the production line had the VIN number ending with SK004043, mines SK003886... this means there are only 157 Corrado's after mine? 8) I found this out after someone was adverstising a Storm as no. 500 (i.e. the last one) becuase they had 500 at the end of the VIN... of course the really real last one is in the museum... ...the lengths some people will go to eh? ...another useless public informercial... DtM.

Well, not quite... accessible from http://www.vw.co.uk/company Absolutely no mention of the Corrado (or even the Scirocco...) Bleedin' cheek! (presumambly they don't mention them 'cause they're not made anymore) Anyone got an e-mail address for VW UK head office? I'm just too damn hot  DtM.

I've been looking at the Origin Blue-i one's myself (GPS). The new B2 can have a detector, added to it as I recall... The features/specifications certainly look pretty good to me... ...funds lacking a bit at the mo'... :( DtM. edited to add: most of the GPS one's have a £50 finders fee to anyone finding a new camera... if they're just going up, you could make a penny or three!

I think there's no problem with buying a high mileage example, as long as you have proof that it's been maintained properly. I got caught out when I bought mine, new to cars in general (didn't have my expert friend with me ), fell in love with C and didn't do as much homework as I should have done (wish I'd found the groups before I bought it! ) kind of a very expensive impulse buy Anyway, bought mine about two years ago with 89K on the clock. FSH and obviously an ex-company car with motorway mileage & main dealer servicing. However, the exhaust, cat, supspension, brakes (discs) etc. were still all the original ones  mostly all corroded due to wear & age (it took AmD several hours to get the old exhaust off and the suspension was a biotch too!) I've had all the aforementioned bits replaced now, so my C shoud be good for another 100k :crossedfingers: without too much more effort, but it's worth bearing in mind if you do find a higher mileage example... I sure wish my head had stopped my heart for a second longer and I might have at least negotiated more on the price... (I still would have bought it though) Now on 113,500 ish, but doing silly miles commuting... watch out Andi, two years and I catch you up m8! DtM.

S'okay, I wouldn't let a main dealer service my baby anyway... Sealed for life...!? where did it go then...? Do I have a leak? (to add to the small oil leak I already have :( ) In the words of Dr Sam Beckett, "Oh boy!" Thanks guys! DtM.

Apologies for the threadjack but... My coolant level is currently below the Min Line (by about 5-10mm), but I'm not getting any signs of overheating or strange tempratures... (doing 700 miles/week at the mo') I've got my C booked in for it's service next month, but in the meantime should I do something about this? (I have no idea what's in there or what mixture has been used, or when it was last changed...) Do the intsructions above apply to my C as well? Cheers all, DtM.

One of their main skills was in producing convertible options for many different car models, they also designed the automatic retractable hardtop you get on the SLK... Website here, but I can't find the C on their timeline :( http://www.karmann.com/__C1256CFD002AC5 ... index.html DtM.

Welcome Elboy! Sadly there never was a Haynes :( The american one (Bentley Manual) only covers the Corrado's sold in the US (G60 & VR6?), but £95 is still a bit too steep, I've seen them go for about £50-£60 on e-bay (there's also a CD version somewhere too). Since the Corrado is based upon a Mk2 Golf (running gear) and a Passat (chassis & bits), these are the Haynes manauls I'd think will be closest (mind you, even my old Mk3 Golf haynes has helped!). I think I'm right in saying that the 2.0 16V lump was also put in the Passat... not sure about the 1.8. Then there's the forum, you're pretty much guaranteed to find someone on here who can help point you in the right direction for finding parts, doing work or modifications, there's a great bunch of poeple on here! (who've already saved me ££££'s so far) As to which one to go for, it's not a case of which one's better, it's about which one gives you what you're looking for, they both have there pro's & con's and like Joe M says, check out some of the threads to see what they're about. Have fun & good luck! DtM.

...pitiful online translation alert! (but you get the general idea, and it does throw up some amusing phrases... ) *** NEW original VW Corrado Werks-Rohkarosse (racing sport) 0 kms!!! Of course still without chassis number!!! Thus NO old cut up goat with 150,000 kms, 3 accidents and with 6 previous owners!!! This is the absolute rarity for the real Corrado Fan!!! The state coach becomes like in the pictures sells to see. The state coach is without sliding roof recess and without work underseal!!! Hence, optimally for the racing sport application the holes are bored partially even already for the cage and Lufthebeanlage!!! Very little Beulen, otherwise good state. And now fast strike before this real opportunity is away!!! Doors, fenders in front, front metal and the tailgate can be also procured against surcharge. I take over Ebay fees. Only collection possibly (within 7 days). Only to the info: the gulf II raw state coach is already sold!!! *** DtM.

...there's a least one ex-copper on this forum... ...somewhere... DtM.

...the two little black cross-heads that are either side of the boot catch? (They're the only one's I can see, except the four plastic ones along the inside boot lid which are preusmably for the trim...) DtM.

...I took the old plate off last night to have a look & I couldn't see any screws under the plate to take the surround off with (hence the post)... It was late, I was tired, maybe I just missed them... (the surround is a bit mucky under where the plate was...)  I'll try again this evening... Thanks people! DtM.

Could someone please explain to me how this is attached to the car? I can see what looks to be clips at the bottom, and there's movement from the top, but something's definitely holding it in (other than the tailgate light clusters). Reason being that the scr*te who put on my rear number plate (the dealer I think) used rather long screws & went straight through the surround without using the holes that were there for it! I'm putting new plates on and want to see if there's any bodywork damage from the screws before I do since I can see paintwork through the slidey holes where the screws go... (just not enough to see if the screw went into the car itself... Muppets  (I'm fixing the new ones on with double sided pads!) Thanks in advance! DtM.

Thanks GazzaG60, now that I think about it, that would indeed make things appear worse... for checking purposes, is that just a case of pop the bonnet and try to move the engine? If so how much should it move versus how much it shouldn't? I have no record of when (if ever) these bit have been done. Cheers, DtM.

Thanks for your post Rams, I'll add steering rack & anti-roll bar bushes to the list of potential candidates then! The suspension is standard, new shocks & springs last year (and all the relevant bearings/bushes/mounts were done at the same time) I'm getting a local VW specialist to have a look at it on Saturday... he's going to take it for a test drive, so knowing my luck it'll behave perfectly! I've got the impresssion this guy knows his stuff, but I'd just like to canvas some opinions first... Thanks again! DtM.

:? My steering still isn't right :( Since this is all a little subjective, (the terms 'loose' or 'not right' won't help anyone) I've racked my brains to come up with these examples... (1) turning into a corner, I stop turning the steering wheel, but the wheels feel like they continue to steer into the corner... doesn't always happen though! (2) driving along at a reasonable speed, in a straight line, steering wheel starts to jerk back and forth of it's own accord, again not always happening! (3) the dead zone for the steering wheel when centred seems to vary... Generally what seems to be happening is that the wheels want to do something (or rather thay are affected by the road surface and move without relation to the steering wheel), I apply the correction but that get's misinterpreted somwehere and then the correction needs correcting  Are these symptoms of drive shaft joint troubles, or are there other possibilities? (assume that tracking, balancing and pressures are all ok) Thanks all, DtM.

I'm pretty sure it would be on the flywheel, since that's always the number that manufacturers quote... I think the insurance company will do it on a percentage increase rather than the actual numbers... (let's face it, when have two rolling roads ever agreed?) there's so many factors to consider, an actual number is too restricting... If they wanted to, the insurance company could probably shaft you with a specifc bhp number... At least that's what it says on my insurance certificate (modified exhaust up to 10% increase in power*) *manufacturers claim, like it actually made that much difference  still it does give me some room to play with... At the risk of sounding a little holier than thou, honesty is always the best policy when it comes to insurance, give them an 'out' and they'll take it! DtM.

Easiest, cheapest, Best mod to a STD 2.0 16v?
Linus Van Pelt replied to stoph-16v's topic in Engine Bay
 I figured the upper limit was about 160 ish... DtM. -
yes please, great news & I saw you got that fixed - ya' bar steward...

...or do it up an incline and round a corner, that soon sorts them out too! ...mind you having seen first hand what Andi's VR did up a hill... ...I want one... DtM.

Sound of dripping & small oil (?) leak - paranoia?
Linus Van Pelt replied to Linus Van Pelt's topic in Engine Bay
 I see... Well, I do have the shorter of the spoliers (standard wheels & suspension), and I can hold them in place so here's hoping! I'm picking them up tommorow, so if they look too steep I'll go for the axle stands option instead... Thanks for the top tips! DtM.
