I was digging up my pdf of the '95 brochure last night when I found I also had a roadtest between the two models... For all the 0-40, 0-50, 0-60 times, the 1.8 is quoted as being faster, but we're talking 1/10's of a second here (reaction times would render this one null and void anyway ). 0-60 for the 1.8 was 8.2 and the 2.0 as 8.3 The 2.0 wins out in the 50-70 whilst in fifth, but the performance really is almost identical. The only difference in other specs is that the 2.0 has slightly more torque ( about 20 ft/lbs), and peaks at slightly lower revs, but then it's also slightly heavier... Not much to choose between them I'd say (i.e in the real world) DtM. ...oh and the 1.8 has a top speed of 132 vs. 130 for the 2.0...

Dusty Mauve Pearl, available only in '92 code LC5P... Blackberry Metallic '94-'95 code LK4Z... I have the '95 model year brochure at home (real & pdf) if you want a copy of the page with the colours on it... I know, I'm sad...

I've always preferred the darker colours, but there's a couple of lightish purple's that look pretty good, twilight violet & ice grey violet I think they're called... don't see too many of those around! DtM.

...t'was your MR2 I was referring to old bean... ...and it was a semi-serious question...

Would you let them play with YOUR Black Mk2 T-bar MR2? ...ain't google wonderful. Sorry, only playing and I was checking this wasn't some wind-up. Similar details appeared on the club GTi forum last year... http://www.clubgti.com/forum/topic.asp? ... IC_ID=3704 DtM. Suspicious, moi?

Have you tried taking it somehwere to see if there are any fault codes in the ECU diagnositics which might point to the problem...? I had all manner if idling troubles when I first got my C (idled low, cut out etc,), and I tried all the usual's (ISV, disty) but they didn't cure it so I bit the bullet and took it to VAG. They didn't get any fault codes from the ECU, but diagnosed two faulty components on a visual inspection. Got the aforementioned components (temprature sensor/throttle switch) changed, never had a problem since... Hope you get to the bottom of it! DtM.

Sound of dripping & small oil (?) leak - paranoia?
Linus Van Pelt replied to Linus Van Pelt's topic in Engine Bay
Decided against the ramps in the end... but after a major service by AmD, they've diagnosed the oil leak, or rather the oil leaks  Both my distributor and my cam cover are leaking oil... Ho Hum... DtM. -
Quick update... Had a major service done by AmD today, they think my steering problems are related to the fact that one of my front wishbone lower arms is fubar'd... Bit p*ssed about the fact that VAG didn't mention it when they did the alignment (which helped, but didn't cure my problem)... and here's me thinking my local VAG dealers were quite good... ho hum... DtM.

Cheers guys! Amazing isn't it... I've owned my C for nearly two years now and only just discovered it! DtM.

Early contender for 'stoopid' post of the month but... ...that cubby hole underneath the ashtray has a square hole in the top of it... it's obviously supposed to be there as there's some rubber bits to protect the gap... Anyone have any idea why it's there or what it's for? DtM.

Why is my throttle cable wrapped in plastic?
Linus Van Pelt replied to Linus Van Pelt's topic in Engine Bay
 I could start feeling ganged up on you know... ...I bow to the wisdom of my betters... Thanks for the help! DtM. -
Why is my throttle cable wrapped in plastic?

...yeah, but that costs money... ...besides, the cable itself looks fine... DtM. -
Why is my throttle cable wrapped in plastic?
Linus Van Pelt replied to Linus Van Pelt's topic in Engine Bay
Thanks mate! :thumbleft: Anyone got any ideas on how I keep the remaining bit in place then? I suppose I could cable tie it, to stop it moving as much as it is at the moment... -
My Throttle cable has a white plastic coating? Is this normal? (basically a plastic tube atround the cable) I have a sneaking suspicion it used to live inside the bit where the cable dissapears into on it's way to the pedal... I recently noticed that where the cable is exposed above the engine the plastic wrapping was getting shredded, caught up & split. It was then getting itself jammed in the bit which moves when you press the throttle pedal (like my technical descriptions? ) I have removed the offending pieces, but now the remaining bit merrily works it's way up the cable to get itself caught up again... (which makes the throttle pedal heavy and reduces the car's ability to accelerate :? ) Is it okay for me to remove the remainder of this plastic stuff? Cheers! DtM.

No worries. I was being 'conservative' with my guess-timate, you could probably get more, but then you have to compare it against what else is on the market. The price I gave you is a price to sell, rather than a price to hold out for... Leather helps though, that could push you towards £7K. To be honest I think you'd get less for it from those 'in the know' than you would from someone who's not... I agree that the Storm prestige is a bit misplaced (and so prices are somewhat infalted). Since it's only the blue paint code that was unique to that model (and it's not difficult get a similarly/better spec'd VR), I don't think I'd pay the extra for it.
-
Hmmmnnn, wet finger pointing in the air I would say realistically about £6-£6.5K (a squeak more for leather perhaps, but I wasn't sure from your description) The mileage/history sounds pretty good, but the mods & Storm badging might put some potential customers off... (If it really was a Storm  you could probably add another £1K) All IMHO, 2p DtM

I had mine replaced by Autoglass in Reading, and have had no problems at all. Maybe I just got lucky as I've heard some horror stories... (which is presumably why you're asking?) All I know is it's a very time consuming procedure, has to be done indoors (i.e on their site) and needs to be left afterwards before driving... If they tell you this, then you'll know, that they know, it's not an easy job to do and has to be done carefully... (apparently getting the old one off isn't for the squeamish either) Good luck! DtM.

Wow, thanks for the responses people! I can check the terminals tommorow (I popped the bonnet before I posted to see if anything looked amiss) and one of the terminals did look covered in something... ...and it's remove the -ve first, then the +ve, right? I also assume the ECU can survive being disconnected for a couple of mins...? In the meantime, can someone explain where the earth straps are? I figured it was probably something loose (I've lost three gears before now due to a loose nut), and the tight left turn also has a bump in it I think, so it's probably just shaken something out of contact. Thanks again for your help! DtM.

I'm feeding my brother's cats for a week and the route I take to get there involves a roundabout and a turning. I go almost all the way around the roundabout (i.e. last exit) and then there's an immediate left turn. Now I do the whole manuever in 2nd, no brakes required and twice in succession, the engine cut out (just after the left turn is completed). There's no warning, no strange noises, no lights on the dashboard, nothing, engine just cuts out... With the car still moving, I turn the key and the car starts fine and away we go again... Is it me, or is this a little bizarre? It's not done it before and it's only done it on this one manuever (i.e sharp turning to the right, follwed by sharp turn to the left) twice in one day... Fuel's okay, levels look okay, although I know my oil could probably do with a top up. Interesting to note was that my spolier was up when the engine cut, and after I restarted (and later stopped at a junction) the spoiler stayed up?! Stopped at brother's, turned the engine off and still the spolier stayed up. Put it down using the button, and on the way back home confirmed all was still well with the activation. I'm stumped on the cutting out thing, anyone throw me an idea or three? Cheers, DtM.

At the risk of threadjacking, I've heard people say this sort of thing before... how is this possible? I've heard terms such as 'loosening up' and the like, but what's the deal with this? Just curious... DtM.

I'm not exactly an expert, but I'm pretty sure that my gut instinct would have been to walk away from it... (judging from what you said) I'm sure you can do better than that one mate. As I think has been discussed in other threads, there's nothing wrong with having 145K miles, as long as the necessary work has been done at the right time in it's life. Sounds to me like they've done some of the work it needed, but maybe left it a little late? DtM.
