  1. ...well, it seemed rude not to mark the occasion this morning, and it's not like you get this opportunity every day... (where's my head in a paper bag smiley when I need it?) I think I really need a holiday... DtM.
  2. Well pleased to hear you've finally got your pride & joy back! I know what you mean about being nervous, I'm still being extra vigilant on the stretch where my little scrape  happened... Really chuffed for you mate, not sure I could have coped for so long without my C  Take care, DtM.
  3. Cheers bud, the idle speed is fine (usually about 900-950, a bit more when it's cold starting). I'll do as you suggest and get the voltage checked (and clean the terminals), it was on my list of things to do, I just wondered if this was symptomatic of a common problem. Incidentally, what sort of grease (graphite?) and in the worst case scenario, what breed of battery should I go for? Cheers again, DtM.
  4. Odd one this... When you start up the car, the warning lights come on and then go off (some kind of system test I assume). Just recently I've noticed that my battery light stays on (not flashing). However, as soon as the remotest amount of pressure is placed on the throttle, it goes out and all is well again... (I can move the car under clutch alone and it stays on). Is this advance warning of an alternator or battery problem (or something else entirely)? Cheers, DtM.
  5. For anyone having problems getting hold of the video, there's a small one here... http://www.prior-chelt.co.uk/cars/videos/index.htm (Right Click and Save As on "New and Classic Cars". The clip is about 9MB in size, Windows Media Player file and about 12 mins long in total. The C feature starts at about 5 mins into the clip. DtM.
  6. The current poll says something too... there's nearly three times as many VR6/G60's as there are 1.8/2.0 Valvers... Corrado 1.8 16v [69] Corrado G60 [140] Corrado 2.0 8v [3] Corrado 2.0 16v [46] Corrado VR6 / SLC [109] Corrado VR6 Storm / Campaign [28] Every single model of the Corrado has it's good points and bad points. No model is 'better' than any other (it's all subjective!). We all look for different characteristics from our cars (whether it's looks, performance, driveability, tuning, modding, etc.). A large proportion of people clearly want the most power, the VR6/G60 have this so it's certainly part of the reason they're the most popular. I'm sure we can all agree the Corrado is a damn fine car, and that applies to whichever model you have. ker-plink DtM.
  7. The engine itself (1.8 8V) has a reputation for being a very solid and reliable unit (so I've heard) DtM.
  8. For the benefit of those who don't subscribe to the Yahoo! group, one of the members was at the studio filming yesterday (showing on Sunday). On Thu, 2003-11-20 at 09:18, Amit wrote: > Top Gear was a good day and the C came out trumps!! > > They've got a new Classic or Crock Wall (bit like the cool or uncool) > and the C, along with a Merc 190E Cosworth went into the Classic > section, but we already knew that. > > Guest on the show was Simon "I'm a twat" Cowell in the reasonably > priced car. I won't spoil it for all you. > > Amit Apologies to Amit, (I know you're on here), just thought others would like to know... DtM.
  9. Indeed, that is until you see what they make them with! (Aluminum Oxide, rare earth metals, Platinum and Rhodium )... incidentally, the Milltek bumpf says they're most effective on turbo charged engines... DtM.
  10. Hey Mark, I've thought about the Milltek CAT myself, (to go with the Milltek exhaust...) but £250-£300 is a little optomistic I think, it's likely to be closer to be £400+ when all is said and done. From the research I've done, you won't actually get much/anything in the way of performance increase (you'll get smoother power delivery, but not necessarily any more) without an ECU re-map (another £250), as the standard settings aren't going to be able to take advantage of the increased flow. The 2.0 16V also has mechanical injectors, so it's debatable how much you can do with a re-map anyway... I've been mulling this one over for some time now... the jury is still out  When my CAT disintegrated (about a month after fitting the Milltek ) I just got a 'cheap' aftermarket one... still set me back just over £200 though :( babrul, 's idea of a second hand one is good... wish I'd thought of that  DtM.
  11. Hey bud, click on the link below to find you accelerator cable part no's... It's part number 30 (scroll down for it)... Elcat Since the part numbers are different for ABV (VR) and ADY/2E (8V), I'm guessing that means you can't use the VR cable with the 8V... Interesting to note from that diagram... Cruise control was never a factory option for RHD C's... :rabiit: DtM.
  12. If I was you, I'd take it to someone like Autoglass and get them to stick it back down for you! I know the whole windscreen is bonded/glued on but I have no idea what they use to do it (just that it's a right royal pain to change! ) DtM.
  13. Juat a quick update... VW sent the wrong cable  which leads me to suspect I actually have the new cable and not the old one as ETKA suggests. Apparently the difference is the 'end' although I have no idea which 'end' nice mr mechanic was talkin' about  Long story short, they put my old cable back on and lubricated, tightened etc. (they said it was fine, even though I had taken the coating off!) and everything is back to normal :?: I'm beginning to think it might have been my throttle pedal sticking and not the cable after all... DtM.
  14. My dad always said, "when it comes to cars you can't go wrong with German or Japanese". Since the first time I learnt to drive was in a Polo, I always thought this would be my first car. On the same day I passed my test, I went looking for one, but all I could find was a Golf. So I took it out for a spin and thought it was soooo much fun, that I bought it there and then. Whilst owning the Golf I drove a vast range of cars as hire cars (for work), and it didn't matter what it was (or how much more powerful it was) it always felt so right to get back in the VW. So when it was time for the next car, I assumed I'd go for a Golf GTi, until I saw a C on a forecourt. My missus suggested I had a look, so I did. To be honest I didn't actually know that much about the car, but I just loved the way it looked. I took it for a test drive and was smitten... going from 60bhp to 140bhp does that to you I guess  So in order that'll be looks, build quality and then performance with outstanding handling... My dad used to own a scirroco and I after I let him drive my C I could see he was tempted :D I really can't see where I can go except to another C (when the time comes).... DtM.
  15. ...they were talking about the old paint bleeding through the new... ...are they having a laugh? DtM.
  16. After my recent blowout (and colliding with a kerb), I could really use a new front bumper. I've managed to source one from a breakers, but it's in the wrong colour (red). I've got some quotes for getting it sprayed up, but it sounds like it's costing a wee bit more than I'd like as it would also involve taking all the existing paint off before respraying. Anyone know if I can do this bit myself to save the pennies and if so how? Cheers! DtM.
  17. Sorry mate, no idea :silly: Although I am a little confused now. The reason this came about was a certain tuning company ordering the wrong one saying that my car was around the time that VW changed all their standard cables. I assumed that meant, I was after the change, an easy mistake to make you'd think... Last night I checked my VIN and it ends with 003 886 which means mine is actually from before the change  AFAIK the number stops (i.e. the last C ever made) at about 004 143 (I can't find where I got this number now ) which means only 150 out of all C's have this revised cable. I'm hopefully getting mine changed on Sat, let's hope they got the right one  I got this information from that russian site  and I think I've interpreted it correctly DtM
  18. Just a word of warning to anyone with a 1995 Corrado. They changed the throttle cable mid-way through the year  Early '95 needs this one... 536 721 555 (up to VIN numbers ending with 50-S-004 000) Late '95 needs this one... 536 721 555 D (With VIN numbers greater than 50-S-004 001) An easy mistake for most garages to make it seems... DtM.
  19. [flanders] okely dokely [/flanders] Standard 50mm and 90mm front (chin) spoilers can be got from GPC http://www.gpcvwaudi.com I think they have their prices the wrong way around though, oh and you can also get the lower front grille from them too. If you're after the aftermarket ones try either here... http://www.psgbodystyling.co.uk/vw_corrado.html or here... http://www.ra-design.co.uk/productList.asp?catID=109 ...and for those that are curious, a new standard front bumper will cost about £380+vat (without paint!) Hope this helps! DtM.
  20. I'll try not to reiterate the good advice Gavin has given, but just to add that I've bought stuff on e-bay from someone in Germany and had no problems with it. What I'll add is that there's an option of "available to the UK" on e-bay and if the listing appears on that then you should be fine. The only thing you have to be careful of is payment. If you're using any kind of bank transfer to pay in Euro's they will usually charge you fairly steeply for the transaction! DtM.
  21. ...ah well, no harm in asking  Cheers, DtM.
  22. If you ever replace your 'poxy standard wheels' (they look like the standard 15" Westwoods I have on mine in your avatar), my poxy (almost) standard C would be very interested in relieving you of them... (at least two of them anyway) (assuming they're in good nick, which it looks like they are) DtM.
  23. Cheers for the replies everyone! I'm hoping to get the tracking/alignment looked at this afternoon. Since I've recently had the track rods/lower wishbones/shocks & springs replaced I'm hoping that being new they'll have had a better chance of withstanding the kerb... :fingerscrossed: I'll leave the steeering wheel alone until that's done, but it was ok because I didn't have a tool big enough for that anyway  :smuttyinnuendo: DtM.
  24. Cheers bud! If the connection is that straight forward then hopefully that means that my steering wheel has moved rather than my steering rack being fubar'd. I haven't had the tracking/alignment done yet, but the car actually feels ok (I can feel it's out, but it's not by a huge amount). Other than that it's just the skewed steering wheel (which is more irritating/distracting than anything else). :thumb right: :thumbleft: DtM.
