  1. Is there a problem with using ramps then? I'll have some assistance to make sure I'm straight etc... (and I got some advice from my dad) Also, in the piccy you should just be able to see the CAT (just a bog standard aftermarket, not VAG or anything)... If I said that it only went on in March last year... it's looking a but fubar'd already... (you can't see it in the pic, but there's a right royal dent in it too). I lost the heat shield when the old one was taken off... given I have an s/s milltek, is this a case of the CAT not good enough to handle the exhaust, or just what you get for fitting cheap parts...
  2. Thanks for the assistance guys, very much appreciated! I'm going to get some of those wheel ramps, I think, so I can get under there to check these things out properly and clean all that cr@p up... Regards, DtM.
  3. Hey peeps, When I got home from work on Friday, after switching the car off I swear I could here the sound of something dripping. I think it came from the front of the car, but I can't really be sure. I've not noticed it before so I wondered if this sounds like something I should be concerned about? I just went out to the car and it dripped again, but this time it sounded like it was coming from where the fuel pump is, so now I'm really confused... I had a look under the car and couldn't see anything obvious leaking, except for a little bit of what looks like oil. (I don't think this is connected btw). I've taken a quick piccy, but since at least two people have worked underneath my car recently, I'm assuming it's nothing to be worried about. The drip is coming off a bolt under some metal barrel-esqe bit under the engine (shown by the red arrow pointing down). The two short arrows point to areas where there's quite a bit of oily build-up... Hoping this is all normal & I'm just having a 'Marvin' moment...
  4. Does anyone on the group (preferably with the same model as me) have the Milltek exhaust, Milltek Sports CAT and an ECU re-map? Given that I'm more interested in smoothing out the performance & response rather than simply adding to the bhp, does this sound like a reasonable combination to go for? I was very impressed after I got the Milltek exhaust at how the power delivery smoothed out under hard acceleration, so I'm looking to build on that. My current insurance will let me have up to 10% from the exhaust modification, so I need to keep it below that figure (150bhp). I don't believe for one second the Milltek added that much but as that's what they claim, that's what the insurance people put it down as. Yes, I will be getting a VR in the future, but my budget won't stretch that far for a few more years at least. Since I've already spent way too much on this car already to even contemplate selling it, I'm considering finishing what I started and then keeping it as the 'daily driver'. Any thoughts, suggestions or comments most welcome! (including put your money away and wait for the VR) Cheers all, DtM.
  5. I thought they were ok when I saw them mate... DtM.
  6. Newspaper on the inside and read from the outside, or vice versa? The paper would be less readable if its on the outside, looking from inside the car, as there would be less light to reflect. Erm, I think. Interesting test, though! Newspaper on the outside and read from the inside... 'cause that's what you're doing when you're drivin'!  ...unless you're driving with your head out the sunroof and trying to look at the dials through the window...
  7. Andi has the full details for this one, but basically it's off-line pending the CCGB finding person(s) to take on the role of webmaster(s)... DtM.
  8. This is absolutely correct, any window behind the driver is not covered by the 70% tint rule. Also note that only Traffic Police with the correct training can issue the PG9 and perform the test on your tints (PG9 is the name given to the action of taking the vehicle off the road becuase it is in dangerous condition, also it has no appeal!). If you're really worried, hold up a newspaper to the window and if you can read it through the tints you should be ok, borderline, better get it looked at. DtM.
  9. Burn the Heretic! (just kidding!) Seriously though, I have already looked at the other cars available and there's really nothing out there that does it for me like the C does... Furthermore, since Andi was kind enough to take me for a spin in his VR, my mind's made up, that'll be the next one for me 8) (when finances permit) The problem is (at least for me), that they don't really make coupe's like the C anymore (assuming that's your thing of course!), they're usually too big (Hyundai), wimpy* engine (Celica) or handle like a biscuit tin on ice (mentioning no names) another 2p I guess the acid test is the test drive... I was alll set to buy a 16V Mk3 until I saw the C, took it for a test drive & bought it on the spot! *before anyone says, I know they do one with 190bhp, but I prefer my torque/power throughout the rev range rather than just at the top, maybe I should have said inflexible rather than wimpy... :?:
  10. scotcorradog60, If you're looking at buying them new, then Euro Car Parts show the wings and one :!: of the sills... 11. I've been with the AA ever since I passed my test with them. I've had to call them out twice whilst I've owned the C, and both times they managed to fix it at the scene. I've only got the basic roadside cover which for about £40 a year isn't too bad... If you have a mobile they text you when the truck gets near & they seemed pretty clued up by asking me questions about the problem before the chap arrives... 2p DtM.
  12. More than happy to do that! (Shame it was wet on the way home, I soooooo wanted to play... oh and the experience of driving with a steering wheel who's horizontal bit is at angle of about 20 degrees (when in a straight line!) is not for the faint hearted!
  13. R T Holder Autos Ltd (Richard, VW Audi specialist) B6 Reading Business Centre, Great Knollys Street, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 7HN 0118 950 4600 Full details in this thread... http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=19560 ...but to sum up, very friendly, good service & honest (I think very good value too). He also tightened a track rod for free becuase it was potentially dangerous. He got my business just for that. I took my C in so he could have a look and he put the car up on a jack thing, stood under it and he showed me what he was talking about and explained what needed to be done (including what would happen if left). I took it in on the Saturday and managed to get it booked in for the Wednesday. Also, Elite Wheels and Tyres deserve a mention for their help too (details on http://www.elitewheels.co.uk). I might give their alloy wheel refurb a go when I have some spare cash... you can get a courtesy set too whilst they're being done. I think he said that they send them away on a Tuesday, return them for Friday (or something like that).
  14. Further to my last, I took my C to Richard today and he's sorted out my steering problems! He's a really friendly guy and he seems to know his veedubs. Apparently he recently did an angine change on a C VR6 (I saw half the old one out the back), so I'm guessing that makes him pretty competent. Anyway, in addition to tightening the track rod the other day, he fitted a new CV boot kit, new steering rack bolt, recentered the steering wheel and took it back to Elite to get the tracking finished, all for under £100 all in. As a result I would reccomend this chap to anyone who's looking for some honest & friendly service! I don't know how good that price is, but I was pleasently suprised, given the money I've spent on my C to date!

    STORM advice

The only Corrado more exclusive than the Storm, would be the 'Campaign' model, only five of these ever built (only 4 still running?). I think we have at least one owner on here...? DtM.
  16. Hey there shApE, I'll have stab at this one  In the U.K. there were several different Corrado models (spread between '88/'89-'95... The VR6 (2.9), 2.0 16V, 2.0 8V, 1.8 16V & the 1.8 G60. The G60 is the only one that comes with a Supercharger! I don't know anyone who's slapped a turbo on a Corrado, but there's always one somewhere! There are a couple of people who have added a supercharger to a VR6, but I think it's fair to say there's still a little developement required before they get as reliable as the original G-Lader in the G60. The most common improvement mod for the VR6 is to attach a VSR. These are rare as rocking horse doo-doo and improve the mid range power, not the top-end. The G60 is the modder's choice I think, it certainly has much more scope for engine modification than the other models (stage 4 chip & pully anyone?) As far as reliability is concerned, each model has it's foibles like the VR6 often suffers from hesitancy, 16V models often get idle troubles, and the G60 needs some TLC and proper looking after to keep the supercharger in check (service every 40,000 miles is recommended for the charger). All corrados can suffer from the more common faults like the sunroof, spolier, door handles and electrics generally, so you'll need to have spare maintenance money on hand at all times! (just in case!) On paper, the stadard VR6 is probably the fastest overall, but a modified G60 can potentially win out. I suppose it depends on what you want, if you want raw power and modding go for a G60... if you want refined power and response at high speed get a VR6. I have the 2.0 16V and it's the right car for me at the moment. It certainly has power, more than enough to have fun, but not too much to get me into trouble! I'm sure that more informed people on here can help you out more (and correct me!), but this should get you going for the time being! Best Regards & welcome to the forum! DtM.
  17. Took my C to Elite Wheels & Tyres in Reading on Saturday in order to get some new shoes (Michelin Exalto) and when they came round to doing the tracking, the N/S/F track rod came off in the guys hand! So, my C could have lost all steering at any moment... Mind you, not only did they diagnose my current steering problems (cv boot & steering rack) they weren't happy for me to drive with a loose track rod. So they called up a local VW/Audi specialist who was kind enough to tighten my track rod for free! Needless to say, the VW Chap concerned (Richard Holder, RT Holder Autos) gets my business for fixing the steering problems 8) Thanks to them both! DtM.
  18. Hi Andi, I sent you a PM a couple of days ago about donating but this thread answers my questions so there's no need to reply. I'll send some money to the fund as soon as I get that activation number on my statement. :D P.S. My first thread on here has already saved me the cost of labour for changing a blower motor  Keep up the great work guys, happy to help in anyway I can. DtM
  19. Quick Update for you... I've managed to change the motor! I'm really chuffed too! The old motor had black residue on the white fan blades and lots of crud came out the bottom of the motor when I took that little black cap off... If I'd known how powerful the blower was supposed to be on setting 4, I may have realised it was in trouble much sooner, almost took my hair off! Seriously though, thanks again to everyone for their assistance (especially Mark)! Better watch out, I'll be doing engine swaps next! DtM
  20. ...the operative word there being "2nd hand"... I suppose I really should have read your original post more closely! I've already ordered a new one anyway (just the motor), getting a second hand one hadn't actually crossed my mind... Thanks again for posting though! Best Regards, DtM.
  21. ...not sure I'm quite with you there... ...will it be obvious to me when I look at the old motor alongside the new one? DtM.
  22. Mark, You're a star, thanks for posting! I shall have a look at the w/e, and if it's as easy as it sounds, I'll owe you a beer (or whatever you're tipple is) :drinking: Thanks again, Best Regards, DtM.
  23. About a year ago, my heater/blower would make strange noises (sort of groaning and/or grinding noises), especially noticeable when first starting the car or when going round tight corners  . Almost always, simply turning the speed dial up to 4 and back down again would cure it. Now my blower/heater doesn't work at all... :( I'm guessing it's probably just the motor and if it is, can this be a DIY job for someone without a lot of experience? (I've managed to change my ISV before now, but that's about it!) I have a very good friendly garage who'll do it for me, just wondering if this is a job where I can save some pennies. Answers on a postage stamp to the usual address please... Thanks in advance, DtM '95 2.0 16V
  24. tee hee, according to Count Quentula on the old 4car website (not there anymore), what the Corrado says about you is, "you have too much integrity to buy a calibra"... makes me chuckle everytime I see one out on the road! DtM
  25. Jim, I too have had my fair share of problems with my 2.0 16V C so maybe some of this will help. I live in Reading so I can tell you what I've done and see if any of it helps. I know you've already mentioned AmD, so I won't go any further other than to say that they do my servicing and major mechanical work (suspension, brakes, milltek etc.) For the various ailments my C has suffered from (and it's recently developed more  ) I'd suggest the following. Let a VW dealer 'examine' the car, the one in Reading have had my C in a couple of times for emergencies & they appear to still have technicians who know what a Corrado is (I've also seen more than its fair share of C's going there). They've successfully diagnosed my problems where others have failed. I had all sorts of idling problems and after trying all the usual fixes (ISV, Distributor, etc.) VW diagnosed the problem to the throttle switch & temprature sender. Since these parts were changed I've had no idling issues at all (no one else even mentioned these parts). Once you've identified the problem, source the parts using a parts company (assuming it's not dealer only) and take it to a friendly local garage. Mine is called PL Autos in Reading, Cardiff Road (the owner lives across the road from me!) They've also done work on my car (replaced the clutch) and their prices are seriously good. Again, my C is not the only one they've dealt with. Hope some of this helps & good luck with sorting your problems. Best Regards, Duncan.
