  1. Cheers Ben, Well i think that 205/40's look good as quite a few people with 9" wheels seem to have these BUT only budget tyres do that size with the exception of Kumho's which are essentially a budget tyre but i dont really want to go with budget tyres tbh i want Toyo's or Rainsports or equivilent. They only do these tyres in 205/45's which are a slightly higher profile, but as they are going to be stretched wouldnt the higher profile just make it a tad less stretch? Plus the wheels will actually look like they have tyres on instead of looking like i have just put an elastic band round them  I got a quote for some 205/45 toyo's fitted at Orbit tyres near me for £330 but i get 10% discount with them through my old man so thats basically £300 so does this sound reasonable? Rob.
  2. So what's the story then has the granprixlegends model been postponed because these would make a great crimbo pressie if stuck for ideas but if they are postponed until January then there's no point :( Rob.
  3. There is a guy on here who's username is Marcus so i dont know whether that could be hime. If so THIS is his profile you could try PMing him. Rob.
  4. Bump can anyone help i need to order the tyres today really :?:
  5. I bought mine with 125k miles for £3.5k and it runs sweet as a nut. The VR6 engine's last forever if they are serviced regularly. There is a guy on here who's VR6 storm is around 250k  IIRC the chains don't really need changing unless they are shit but the tappets do so best to check if anything has been done, the more the better i suppose  Good luck with finding your car and welcome to the forum :D Rob.
  6. QUICK HELP NEEDED! Ok would anyone be able to clear this up for me. I tested my new rims which are 9x16 et15 at the rear and at the min they have 195/40 tyres on stretched!! they dont catch at all with my 40mm drop which is nice as i wont need archwork. However i need to get new tyres all round (fronts are also 9x16 but et30 with 3mm spacers) i have read soooo many threads using the search and there are mixed views. It seems that 205/40's are what people go for however on mytyres there isn't much choice of tyre in that size whereas 205/45's there are loads inclusing my favs the uniroyals. So would 205/45's be fine? They would fill the arches a tiny bit more as well  Rob.
  7. Nice one, so how much would we be looking at to get the arches rolled? I dont want them pulled/flared etc just roll the lip up. I havent even tried the front wheels on yet but i am pretty sure they will catch. The backs dont catch at all so i wont need to roll them until its coilover time  Hey Ben, just incase ya worried i havent been driving around with the rear wheels on so the tyres aren't being warn out  i took it for a test run along some bumpy roads etc and they dont catch :D i should be getting some tyres soon so i will drop the tyres off tp you. Oh and the 195's on a 9" rim look have been quite a good conversation topic so far  its madness i dont know how you done it every day  Rob.
  8. Why wouldnt you fit the rims with the current ride height mate? Like i said before i cant really stretch for some coilovers at the moment or any time soon for that matter so i will just put the rims on as they are for now. But i will one day get some coilies once christmas and gf's bday etc etc are out the way first  Where is this stylehaus place then?
  9. I imagine it would be a great daily driver. They have power, looks and the comfyness of a golf and being a golf you know nothing will go wrong with it :D If you could stretch the R32 would be a nicer choice imo but its your choice. Rob.
  10. I take it you are on about a Golf v6 4motion? If so a few guys on here have them including PhatVR6. From what i know of them they are a good car but very heavy and a bit rolly polly. Best to ask the guys with them mate. Rob.
  11. Never really though about how much you have to think about to store a car for winter but it makes sense now  I however will be using mine throughout winter as its my daily driver :( but frequent washes and some good layers of wax should help with the weather.
  12. Yeah i am sure that there are much better products out there but i just wanted to get a starter kit really and the megs 3 step kit seemed to have a few recommendations so i thought i would give it a try and i am quite impressed with it. The polish is great stuff really gives the paint a deep shin but the wax doesnt seem to add to it like some waxes do but i only really added the wax as protection i was already happy with the shine from the polish. And yeah volksdevil is where i get most my stuff from (well now it is anyway ) Neil is a top guy and always willing to help so you cant beat that really! The 3 step kit is £22.99 IIRC and as for the cloths the drying cloth is £6.99, the glass cloth is £4.49 and the polishing cloth is £5.99 but i got this for free with his current offer which ends very soon so order them quick if you are going to  They are all HERE. Rob.
  13. Hi all, well i thought that i had better post a thread about my little detailing session yesterday afternoon as i was quite impressed with the outcome. Before now i used to wash my car with a hose and sponge using a shampoo of some sort and drying with a chamois and i HATED chamoising because it always dried smurky and looked crap basically  so i would always have to polish it after which i never had a lot of time to do so rushed it therefore not getting a very good finish. Well not anymore because i have been gradually building up my products and reading endless amounts of detailing threads etc and getting some advice off the very helpful Neil (Riley) from Volksdevil.com (little plug there ) and my kit now consists of the following: - Lambs wool washing mit - Volksdevil own microfibre drying cloth (superb!) - Volksdevil own microfibre glass cloth (also superb!) - Volksdevil own microfibre polishing cloth (do i need to say anything) - AG Car Shampoo - AG Wheel Cleaner - AG Vinyl and Rubber Care - Some sort of tyre foam in a can  - Everyday window cleaner taken from mum  - Megs Step 1 Paint Cleaner - Megs Step 2 Polish - Megs Step 3 Carnuba Wax Yesterday was a lovely day and when i finally got up  i rang the girlfriend and to my surprise she had plans and i had the day free :D so naturally i thought i would try out my new cloths and products etc and spend a few hours detailing the beast! STEP 1 I rinsed the car off first and then washed the wheels just using AG shampoo, AG wheel cleaner and the foam on the tyres. Then washed the whole car with AG shampoo going over it a few times changing the water in between times. Then i dried the car off using my new microfibre drying cloth and at this point i was amazed how good it was, it soaks up every drop of water and you can buff the paintwork to a completely streak free finish. I took some pics at this point to show how good it looked already! STEP 2 After being amazed with the drying cloth i wanted to use it again so i applied Megs Step 1 Paint Cleaner to the whole car and buffed off with my new microfibre polishing cloth which again is awesome quality. Then washed the car again and dried it with the drying cloth which again i loved the results :D STEP 3 Once the car was completely dry i applied my Megs Step 2 Deep Shine Polish to the whole car (applying it a panel at a time and not in direct sunlight ) and then buffed off again using the microfibre polishing cloth. The car came up amazing after the polish with a lovely deep mirror finish i was uber impressed  I took some pics at this point to show the mirror finish. STEP 4 Then i applied my Megs Step 3 Carnuba Wax to the whole car to lock in the finish and help protect the paintwork with the weather getting worse every day really. STEP 5 Then finally i done all the tit and tat bits which were clean the windows using everyday window cleaner from under the sink and using my new microfibre glass cloth and again i was amazed with this cloth at how easy it was to clean the windows without leaving streaks everywhere! And finally went over the plastic trims and rubber etc with my AG Vinyl and Rubber care. I didnt get a chance to go over the interior but i will just give that a quick hoover and wipe over tonight. In summary i was really pleased with the outcome and i actually enjoyed it using the new cloths because they make it much easier whereas it used to get tedious and annoying before trying to get rid of streaks etc and plus i was always rushed! So a big thank you to Riley for his help and the cloths. All pictures of the car can be found HERE. But i have attched one of the mirror finish after the polish was applied on the bonnet! Thanks, Rob.
  14. Cheers Bally, so you dont think it looks like a buggy then? I know its high compared to the likes of yours with coilies but for a 40mm drop i dont think it looks that bad. The front will look better as its lowered about 60 so it will sit a bit more flush to the wheels, which will also mean i will need to roll my arches :( Rob.
  15. Yeah they are nice rims, very similar to the Borbet A's tho but that isnt a bad thing  I know what you mean though i just love the look of corrados slammed on wide deep dish wheels, pure pornography  Rob.
  16. Cheers :D Riley: Cheers mate, you should be proud mate they are excellent products, its amazing how something small like cloths make such a difference when cleaning a car  but like i said before i will be happier to clean my car more often now due to it not drying streaky and horrible  What 9x16's you after mate? I think your D90's look superb on your car why do you want to change? Rob.
  17. Yeah i saw that one, its a bloody minter. I have put it in her watched items list so hopefully she can stretch to it :D What a drive we will have a blackberry corrado vr6 and a mk1 golf  Rob.
  18. Cheers mate, errm i dont think i will chop the springs
  19. Blimey i bid on the car and was highest bidder at £370 until just 36 secs before the end and suddenly it shot up to £620 which is too mugh. Does anyone else know of some good ones going or seen any on ebay that look good? Cheers, Rob.
  20. I cant as i dont have coilovers just spring and shocks mate. Thats why i said i was worried it may look silly but i think it looks ok and although it would look better slammed my budget cant really stretch to coilovers at the moment so they will be staying as it is (but with the fronts on as well ) Rob.
  21. yeah i travelled forward in time to when i could get away from the girlfriend to clean it  i think i might just change that now And thanks :D Rob.
  22. Thanks for the quick help guys. She has looked at drivers but apparently they are more on insurance for her so she cant really afford them. She had her heart set on this one, it looks in good nick to me especially the interior looks mint. It has MOT until end of April as well as Tax. She wants to bid on it so i will bid up to around £400 maybe a tad more and if it goes much higher i will leave it and move on. And she doesnt want a MK3 she wants to go old school (good girl ) she would ideally like a MK1 but a MK2 would be a better daily driver or her. I will let you all know if she wins it. Thanks again for the help. Rob.
  23. Ok so time for an update on my gallery as i havent done anything for a while. I bought my new rims last week which are Brock B2's 9x16's which i got off of Bendy who is a legend for holding them for me for months and i mean months   So anyway only 2 of them had tyres on which were the back ones so i thought i would see how they look on the car and they look awesome i cant wait to get some tyres on them all and get them on!!! I was worried that my car would look like a buggy as its only dropped 40mm but i dont think it looks that bad and the fronts (when on) should look better as its lower at the front! Also today i had some free time (i.e. girlfriend went out ) and it was a cracking day for nearly november so i thought i would have a go at detailing my car with the new microfibre cloths i got off of Riley at Volksdevil.com who by the way is a legend as well, really good service and the cloths are absolutely amazing!! This is what i done: - Rinsed the car first to wash off any fine dirt and dust - Washed the car with Autoglym Shampoo (went over a few times) and rinsed it off as well cleaning the wheels and tyres. - Then i used my new microfibre drying cloth to dry it and compared to chamois's these things are amazing the car was completely streak free. - Then i used Megs step 1 paint cleaner all over and washed it again after. - Then i used megs step 2 deep shine polish on the whole car using my new microfibre polishing cloth and again was amazed at how well it came up with these cloths they are so soft and work so well. - Then i cleaned the windows with ordinary window cleaner using my new microfibre glass cloth which is awesome on glass, no streaks whatsoever!! - Then finished it off with a Megs step 3 wax. I took some pictures just after drying the car to show how nice it looked, then finally took some after the polish including some of the mirror shine!! Anyway enough blabbering here are some pics :D Rob.
