Sure is! I couldnt stand it being dirty anymore  See you saturday

Well as the car is running i took it out the garage yesterday and treated it to a much needed clean/polish! I should have put a dust cover over it whilst it was sitting over the winter as it got covered in dust, the majority being from when my dad cut some blocks outside the garage which went all over my car. I washed it and this dust had bonded to the paint, it felt like sandpaper :( so i had to clay it then of course! After claying though, in the sunlight i could see what working on a corrado can do to the paint, ie from brushing past, leaning against it etc, the paint was scratched abd swirled all over, i werent happy! So obviously the machine polisher had to come out  I knew it wouldn't take much to sort out as they were only light scratches so i went over the whole car with a fine finishing polish with the machine and it took it all out and back to its former glory. Then finished it off with some Clearkote glaze and Victoria Concours wax 8) Also have fitted my audi vdo gauges, well 2 of them (only the pressure is wired up though so far, not fussed about the temp as its on the MFA and will be replaced with a boost gauge soon anyway!) including my new LC-1 wideband gauge which reads the air/fuel ratio (the picture was taken with just the ignition on which is why its all the way round at 18!). Anyway thought she looked so good i took some pics today, so enjoy and expect it back on the road very soon

Nah i didnt think to tbh  Yeah i will definately be going back to him for the odd chat as i plan on getting a mk1 golf project in the summer so will be a handy guy to get ideas and advice from!

what suspension are you running your 9" rears on?
herisites replied to barryarginnraddo's topic in Drivetrain
If you want fully adjustables where you can adjust the comfort/stiffness as well as height you are looking at quite a bit more money really but bloody good suspension none the less! Tbh the cheapo coilovers are usually stiff as hell which is why people like to spend a bit more so you can get comfort as well, so if you have cheapo ones then they may well be stiff enough already. Best thing is to try them really, as once slammed they will stiffen anyway. -
You don't necessarily need ot be handy with a spanner just willing i'd say as there are many a folk on this forum who are handy with spanners that if asked nicely would be willing to help. Isn't that right Kev/Karl/Dave?

Just been sorting my moped out to sell it to pay for the insurance on my C (top priority!) so have just taken it for its MOT. None of the places i would usually take it could squeeze it in quickly so i was directed to a garage still near but just out the way enough that i hadn't noticed it and luckily they could squeeze me in. Dont worry this is car related  I had to walk home as left the bike with them, so as i am walking back i take this little side road in which there is what looks like a closed down barn building, i remember it used to be filled with old motorbikes back in the day but obviously closed down. Well as i walked past it i noticed that door slightly open and i caught a slight glimpse of a corrado :D peaked my head inside to find a corrado, a mk1 pickup and a few old audi cabs, all project cars with bits of bodywork off and/or engines out etc! I was so taken by them i just walked in and was snooping around and then noticed a bloke walking out from behind one of them. I asked him what was with all the cars and they were all his projects, but he uses the barn to do spray jobs and welding etc on old vw's and audis as a job! I had a bloody long chat with him, told him about my C etc and when i said its a VR he pointed me to the back of his van where he had a VR engine sat which he's putting in the mk1 pickup :D so i gave him some advice on the engine as he's not very good with the engine side of cars and went on my way. I thought it was a good spot of luck finding him there, i couldnt believe it. He said if i ever needed any painting/welding etc doing then he can sort me out. Anyway just thought i would share that with everyone  He also pointed me in the direction of an old mk1 golf gti project car which runs, near by for only £400 :( i havent got the money or space at the minute :( :(

Well it is

Yeah i cant see why jubille clips wouldnt work, i use jubilees for all my supercharger pipes which are high pressure and they work fine. You can get nice chunky jubilee clips anyway! And come to think of it my bottom rad hose is jubilee clipped so

Should be ok then with the matrix if its been done, not a nice job to do if it hasnt :( Might be worth mentioning, agreeing with Goldie, make sure you seal the stat housing properly, i put shed loads of silicon sealant on mine when i put the new one on after doing my head gasket to be safe! Also if you change the stat for a new VW, im not sure if its still the case but there were problems with new ones not opening up as much as the old ones causing the car to overheat, or ust run hot. Does anyone know if this is still the case? And yeah don't use too much G12, the car will run cooler with more water than coolant, the G12 is mainly in there as an anti-freeze (not really needed so much now hopefully!) and for anti-corrosions etc. And its better using de-ionised water as well, only a few quid from your local car parts shop!

Main water pumps aren't really expensive and not a big job to do yourself. The aux water pumps i think are about £100 last time i checked which is quite steap. Some people dont bother running them though tbh. Yours might be ok, next time you take the car out for a run and get it hot open the bonnet and listen around that area and if you hear a buzzing noise then it should be ok, if you cant hear anything hold something onto it (not your finger as its hot!) to see if you can feel it vibrating. If its making a nasty crunching or clicking noise then that could be the bearings chewing up inside.
-
The pump that is run by the pullies is the main water pump, definately worth replacing as the standard ones have plastic impellers which tend to snap off over time, plus they are prone to leaking! The electric one sits underneath your plastic covers at the top right hand side of the engine, it should come on on overrun to keep water flowing round the head whilst the engine is still hot which will prevent the head warping which in turn can lead to head gasket failure. These are also prone to going as i believe the bearings inside just fall apart and it just jams up.

Coilovers would be best mate as if you want the right look then the car needs to be low but stiff so that the tyres dont hit the arches too much. You will almost definately need the arches rolled as well though. If you dont go very low then it will look a bit silly, like a beach buggy! Up to you really though, depends on your budget. I ran 9's all round on my VR6 and i have Weitec GT coilovers which are a good comprimise for performance, ride and price! -
Got any pics of the new one? The drop link screws into the end of the ARB and then bolts on to the wishbone.
-
2.3 and wouldnt be the same engine code (AAA) as the VR anyway. Isn't AAA the american SLC engine code? which would be the 2.8. Our 2.9 VR's are ABV.

Most battery chargers wont charge if there is too little charge in the battery already, a trickle charger will give it enough charge to get a big charger to charge it though.

Well they say you cant polish a turd but i proved that wrong on Friday by polishing my mates Rover ... sorry i mean MG ZS  Nah i cant be mean he's a good mate, just likes his bloody rovers for some reason  Its a ZS 180 which is the 2.5 V6 24v so goes alright, not a match for a VR though  He bought the car a few weeks ago and come over to show me it, he mentioned that he thought the paint looked a bit tired considering its only a few years old and done just over 20k miles. When he brought it over i put the halogen on it and sure enogh, swirled to buggery and they were classic car wash swirls which is understandable as the previous owner was a woman  So we booked it in for the works! The pics are a bit crap quality from making them so much smaller but still look ok. Here is the car when he arrived: And the damage in the sunlight (not brilliant): So first we washed it the usual way, pre-soaked with Snow Foam through the foam lance whilst wheels cleaned, then pressure rinsed then washed with 2 buckets using Megs Hyper Wash and lambs wool mitts, although to be fair it wouldnt matter if i used 1 bucket, a sponge and some fairy liquid as it was getting polished anyway  After washing i then clayed it all over using Sonus Green clay, it was generally pretty clean except for the obvious lower half of doors, front/rear bumpers and tailgate etc. Once clayed it was washed again and finally dried. Then we moved it into the garage and put the halogen light on to it to see the real damage which was horrifice even though the pics dont really show it so much: I started polishing on a test patch on the bonnet to test the hardness of the paint and as expected it was soft so just a fininshing polish on a polishing pad on the rotary did the trick to remove about 90% maybe tad more of the swirls. Some afters: All the large metal panels were polished with the machine and the bumpers were polished by hand, although the rear bumper had a nasty scratch on it so i tackled it with the machine and it got rid of most of it. As i polished each panel i made my mate follow with the Super Resin Polish and he also wanted some glaze so we added some Clearkote Red Moose Glaze on it as well as the paint felt quite dry so thought it would be a good move. Then once the whole car was polished and glazed i gave it a layer of Victoria Concours wax and did all the finishing off bits like polished glass, dressed plastic trim and tyres etc. It looked pretty good in the end, well for a rover anyway  So there you go, you really can polish a turd! My mate was over the moon with the results and has splashed it all over the rover/mg forums and looks like i may have some work off there  Oh and yes that is my Corrado finally out of the garage in the 4th after pic down :D but it went back in the garage after :( Thanks for looking :)

My thoughts exactly, put collinite on my mates in october, washed it the other day and it was still on it and he's been using it daily since :D Great stuff for durability, there are much better waxes in terms of finish though.

Not seen that before, will be interested to see how it is myself. Think i will wait for someone to try it or read about it on detailing world before i decide to spend money!

I believe K931 RBV is now possibly the mintest corrado ever. See HERE

I got a bit excited when i read the thread title :(

VT ones are expensive but they make a big difference so worth it imo. Don't go for VT ones all round though as that will make it too stiff and will send the vibrations through the car! Just a front one and then renew the others. The mk2 diesel one is for the gearbox mount, its slightly stiffer than standard corrado one and makes the gear changes a bit smoother. Easy job to replace the front one, just support the engine with a jack (using the corner of the sump as a jacking point and using a bit of wood to spread the weight) then undo the bolts for the mount, whip it out and put in a new one. The gearbox one is a pain in the arse though, done the same as the front but its a bit more fiddly trying to get the mount in and out.

That is fcuking stunning! 8) makes me even more determined to get mine back on the road and give it a GOOD polish up
