Bloody hell you dont hang about! Loving the new rims, they suit it perfectly! 8)
-
That true  i would be fairly happy with 250bhp, but i think it could be more, it does go pretty well and i cant remember karls vortech being a hell of a lot quicker if any. I cant believe it either!! Im a bit disappointed though, you were too easy to break into submission on the whole "detailing" thing, was expecting more of a fight from you tbh  Yep claying might sound weird but it does its job, my car's paint was like sandpaper after all that brick dust was left on it for so long, claying soon got rid of it though 8) If you want as machine polish mate just name a time and place! I would be happy to do it after all the help you have given me with getting my car running :notworthy:
-
I sure am mate! 8) Im not sure what the power will be tbh as like i said it feels a faster car to drive than Karls old 300bhp Vortech but thats mainly because it has more mid-range and low down whereas the vortech needs whinding up! I have had a couple of short races, main one being the new vectra vxr which is 280bhp and 275lb/ft which is a quick car, i was in 3rd coming out of a roundabout when he pressed on to the dual carriageway so i wasn't really in the power but i pressed and as it built up the power i did catch him and was up his arse, but backed off as a car looked like it was about to pull out. I toyed with a Scooby STI which i dont know if he was going all out as i had plenty left. And i have destroyed numerous other cars including a new golf gti :D  I am expecting about 260-270bhp maybe? Anything around that i will be happy with tbh as its only running about 7-8 psi and its only had a 50 pence remap from Dave
-
Yeah its fantastic, although i am getting used to it already  The power delivery is much better than a Vortech imo, i drove Karls last year which was knocking on 300bhp and it was fast but a very progressive fast and not really much low down. I dont think mine is kicking out as much as that but it has good power delivery from 2k on really and when it hits 4-4.5k it shifts! The mid-range is great too, no dropping down gears to overtake, just press and it picks up and pulls straight past cars effortlessly so i am happy about that!
-
 yeah i was a bit eager to drive it, after all it had been 6 months since i last drove it properly! Also had a play with a Scooby STI and annihilated a new golf GTI :D Will have a look into some different forms of cooling and see what i can afford really. I'm not going to go for silly power anyway so any cooling will be better than none i suppose.

Bloody ham almost got me in to trouble, i put it on a piece of work i done for uni at a point i had to come back to, just put "i like ham" and a smiley face and forgot i put it in there  luckily it wasnt a very important bit of work and didnt get down graded, i just got a big question mark in red biro next to it
-
Yeah was going to look at some form of cooling but thought it might be ok with the cams without any extra cooling as they will just fill the cylinders more? Im not sure which way to go with cooling tbh, would like it pretty reliable as planning on going round europe in it beginning of June!!
-
Oh it gets driven mate! I may clean it a lot but thats because i am out driving it so much for it to get dirty!!
-
They sure do! Next on the cards is some 263 cams i reckon
-
I ran my vr out of fuel yesterday as well  mind you i have just got my supercharger working and was officially back on the road so i was a bit heavy footed and forgot that it now drinks a lot more fuel than standard  Oh well, lesson learnt
-
Yeah that might be a good idea, soz
-
 Not broken it yet, havent had a chance to update as i have been out in the thing too much running it out of fuel  So as people have probably guessed ITS FINISHED!!!! And back on the road :D :D :D i am very happy to say the least. It was running like crap, then Dave come and done his magic and after a bit of MAF moving it ran sweet as a nut and the rest of the evening was spent with me and kev blasting up and down dual carriageway testing the fuelling, stop and give it a tweak then back up and down  It pulls very well, has a great surge from 2k on but hit 4.5k and you are off and even Kev seemed quite impressed with it which i am happy with as his is an animal so anything less would seem pitiful in comparison  i made a mistake going out in his before though as although mine is quick i cant tell how quick because i just had how stupidly fast kevs was in my head, so i will hopefully be getting a drive in Mic-VR's standard vr soon so i can compare :D So MAHOOSIVE thanks for Kev for his work with the head gasket, timing chains and charger setup yesterday and BIG thanks to Dave for his help getting it setup properly yesterday, you are both legends :notworthy: :notworthy: Roll on rolling road day :norty:

I cleaned my inlet manifold and rocker cover etc up with a big wire brush, scraped the fcuk out of them which got rid of all the horrible old yellow crap and limescaley marks etc and brought them up nice a original. Then i went over them with some metal polish and some wire wool. Then i just used some normal back-to-black style product on the plastics and some rubber care on the rubbers (which you wont need once you have your samcos on!). Since the pic i have also cleaned my coolant reservoir up by taking it off whilst i had my coolant out, filled it half full with HOT water with fairy liquid and bleach, and half with small pebbles. Then shook the hell out of it until my arms felt like they were about to drop off and i now have a nice clean looking reservior that i can actually see my coolant level in  Will do the same with my washer jet water bottle soon as well.

Damn you Torsten, can your car possibly get more gorgeous!! -
Here you go mate, my mate Ben's has deleted mirrors. Looks good but i drove it once and its a PITA as you cant see anything  LINKY

I have the same thoughts, i love cleaning/polishing my car but im not saying its perfect at all, the front end is a state with stone chips and it has the odd little rust bubble and scuff on the bumpers etc but like you say at a distance or sitting in the garage with the flourescent lights on etc it looks MINT which is the way i like it. If i paid £5k+ for a respray i would screw when it got stone chips etc, same reason why i wouldnt want to buy a brand new car (and for the depreciation reasons obviously!)
-
Exactly! Not saying my paint is better than those that have had resprays at all as its still 12 year old paint, but with the right attention it comes up bloody well!!
-
I think i remember reading somewhere that orange peel is done on purpose as its protects the paint more or something  will look into it!
-
Yep all new cars are water based paint now which is worse for orange peel and is prone to fading which is why every dealer will sell you some sort of paint protection miracle product with the car so you never have to polish your car again  When polishing your car you remove slight layers of the lacquer, more so when machine polishing than by hand due to the heat and speed that the machines produce. So as you polish away the top so many microns of faded, dull and scratched/swirled lacquer you are revealing new fresh paint underneath and it will look as good as it did when it came out of the showroom. I dont think paint techniques have changed much from days of the corrado to now anyway as i have polished corrados and i have polished new vw/audis and i have always had to do use pretty much the same pad and polish combinations to get similar results. But paint differs a LOT between different manufacturers, for example VW/Audi paint is very hard and takes a long time and a hard polish to do anything, where as at the other end of the scale Japanese paint is like butter, you could generally get as good results by hand (with sore arms!) as by machine because its so soft. I will happily come and show you my paint boostmonkey (sure you said you wanted me to come down your way anyway?) to prove all this! And when you are finished project PLUM i would also happily polish yours for ya ... for a small fee :D
-
Awesome! Cant knock the Rotrex superchargers. Which version have you got? C30-84/94? Should be getting mine running properly at the weekend so cant wait to see what its like, wont be quite like yours mind as its only the small one running 8psi!
-
Thats called Orange Peel, which is standard in pretty much all paint work, even more so with brand new cars! Apart from cars that have had a LOT spent on a top notch paint job, in which case the paint is flattened down during the painting process to eliminate orange peel. Tbh spending a day rubbing the paintwork of your car with all sorts of products is down to personal interests, i happen to really enjoy it and even though your arms feel like they could drop off after i also find it a relaxing process, as your mind and body (arms!) are kept busy for a long period of time and so all of lifes little troubles dont seem to bother you, its just you, your car and some polish/wax  The only other thing that i find as relaxing is playing guitar (which is obviously more relaxing on your muscles, but im talking mentally relaxing!) Plus i think a lot of people who slate detailing will soon change their mind when they see a car that has had a lot of time spent on the finish of the paint. Not bragging but mine for example, its original paint (12 years old!) but when i have finished with it it looks like new bar the stone chips on the front which even new cars have so doesnt bother me. Other cars that come to mind, Goldie's Storm is a fantastic example, original paint with some good time spent on it and its winning show and shine competitions over cars with resprays! And another point to add (sorry i will shut up soon ) just because people spend £5k+ on paint jobs doesn't necessarily mean their paint is in the best condition! When you go to all these shows, if you were to come round with me i would point out to you the bad ones that despite the paint job, are covered in swirls from improper washing techniques as well as holograms and buffer trails left behind from the paint job. Where as mine, with 12 year old paint after a good machine polish etc has next to no swirls as i keep on top of it and wash it properly!! Rant over, my 2p worth anyway
-
Hi mate, Looks fantastic! Can i just ask thouh, how did you mount the whole custom facia into the centre console after? Was it a case of screwing it in from the sides, some form of glue perhaps etc?
-
Like pouring traction fluid all over the floor  :(
-
Looks good. Although i cant see the machine making all that difference with those choices of polish. Machine polishers are meant to be used with an abrasive polish that breaks down as it heats up which is what takes out oxidation, swirls and scratches from the paint. These are the problems i see: 1. The megs step 1 is a paint cleaner, its designed to chemically remove bonded contaminants and oxidation from the paint. Its a great product and does do a great job of restoring tired looking paint on its own, but as its not abrasive the machine wouldn't have made a difference, just applied it quicker. 2. The megs step 2 although is called a 'Polish' isn't actually a polish. A polish is abrasive which is why its used to bring the paint up to former glory. The megs step 2 contains no abrasives so is actually just a glaze, which is a product that sits on top of the paint looking pretty really. So although you got great results, the machine has only really helped in speeding up the process of applying the products. However wherever you used T-Cut with the machine, that would actually cut the paint as T-Cut is abrasive, although not the greatest product to use imo :? But all the same, car looks great so you should be very happy with the results :) im just a cleaning geek so thought i would say thats all
-
Cheers, i have actually raised it slightly  Well i cant thrape it yet as the fuelling isn't set up, but The Usual Suspects (Kev and Dave!) will be coming over next weekend to sort that out. But just taking it to sort of 3k rpm it bloody flies so cant wait to see what its like when i can take it up the revs
