Yeah the orbital sanders work on the same basis, some genius just thought up the idea of putting a sponge on the end basically and used it as a polisher  Diagram stolen from detailing world
-
Yeah thats true ... with a rotary which i use. And you can use them on bumpers, i just prefer not to because its much easier to burn the paintand i dont have a paint thickness guage. A random orbital is fine though (with caution still obviously) as they dont generate as much heat in 1 small area so wont heat up the paint/plastic as quickly. That also mean that random orbitals take a lot longer on the metal panels to polish because polishing is all about generating heat to break down the polish  As with all machine polishers though, best to practise on a test panel first before attempting your own car and definately before doing anyone elses car.

Always get those two mixed up  :camp:

I used a skateboard to move a 7 man hot tub

To be fair rob, you will be extremely lucky to find a Mk1 like that, unless it has been restored. I've had two mk1's and both were rotten, although they didn't look it. Don't get me wrong, I love mk1's, but you'll need deep pockets ;) Yeah i know that i wont get one thats completely rust free, but if i look around i know that i could grab a good one, its been done enough times! Just need to find an old person who's owned one since new and only used it for first few years  And i will eventually have deep pockets, thats the plan really. At first i just want to get one as a run about that i will gradually restore up but as time and funds allow it will be getting the full show car works 8)

Read my recent post, i dont want a GTI and i wanta tatty one! Nah im not a fan of mk1's with clipper bodykits on. Doesn't suit it imo, its pure simplicity. Old style bumpers with chrome. Plastics on the arches removed, single headlights and then just slammed on its arse on a set of wide 13's Like this :luvlove: :luvlove: :luvlove:

Looks very tidy mate 8) Yeah i will be doing everything myself including any bodywork repair that may be needed ie cut out rust, weld in a new piece of metal if needs be (need to get a welder though!) but i am hoping to find one that wont really need anything like that doing to it, maybe just a bit of surface rust that can be treated. Mechanics and drivetrain etc are no probs, the engine will probs be the last thing i work on. Im not sure i will get a GTi purely because they fetch too much money, and for some reason i prefer the look of the small block ones  so would just get the engine running well just to drive it about whilst restoring the exterior/drivetrain/interior. The only thing i wont do is spray it, i will strip it all back but will obviously have to get someone to spray it then i will put it all back together. Engine wise, i was thinking perhaps a KR engine on bike carbs  but i dunno yet, the corrado will be the performance toy once its turboed etc so the mk1 will purely be for cruising and looking cool  And it will all be documented on this forum if its allowed :D

Yeah its not going to be any time soon, havent got the spare cash at the min as im not selling the rado for it, just want to get one as a project car. Im hoping next month i can start looking. I am only going to spend between £500-£1k as want one that runs and is not rusty but is probably a bit tatty and needs some tlc. Then i can get it in the garage and start stripping and renewing

Mr Kevster i cant be arsed to email you about this as might as well ask in this thread. I have the Weitecs and my helper springs are all at the top. This wont make any effect to what we have been talking about will it?

Blimey is that all a well loked after, low mileage VR is worth! I need to sell mine soon and was hoping for quite a bit more than that! Yep unfortunately corrado's are worth sod all at the minute unless its a low mile Storm, and even them have gone down in price. At the end of the day though, the car is worth what you want for it so if you were hoping for a lot more then try and sell it for what you want! Some people still pay stupid money for them. A mate's mate apparently just bought a VR which high miles and not in best looking condition and no leather for over £4k  My theory is people see some people selling them for silly low money and just think their's arent worth anything so sell them for low price as well. We need to start asking more for ours cars i reckon if they are in good nick!
-
He probably got paid to take them away knowing Karl
-
Well thats you not getting a ride in mine when i get it then  Dont really care how they drive tbh, its going to be better than that schitty polo i had, i just want one because they looks sooo cool 8)

:notworthy: stunning!!

Yeah thats what the guy i was speaking with said. He said they wont have a deep grill anymore and will look more 'friendly' because the VW cars are more family based and then sporty Seats will have the aggressive grill stylings etc.

Transponder playing up for the first time in aaaages and wont let me start the car, just as everyone was getting off the ferry on my return to england from my trip!! That was hilarious :censored: Not had anything go on the way to an MOT but i laughed at the last one as the MOT tester broke my passenger door handle and couldnt get it open and was trying for ages, really stumped him, i found it brilliant  i werent too amused when he told me thats an MOT failure though, soon told me where to go as he broke it  passed it though luckily, good man :D
-
Was speaking to a guy at VW the other day and he said all new VW's are going to have this style shallow or 'friendly' looking grill and will leave the big aggressive (and good looking) grills to the likes of Audi's and Seats :( He had a few colourful things to say about the new Scirocco thats for sure  had a good laugh with him actually.

Exactly! With a 50mm spoiler the sump is lower than the spoiler. I used to have mine very low when i had my wide wheels on etc and granted i could of gone lower and not caught my spoiler if i had gone for a 50mm but i would rather be scraping the plastic spoiler a bit rather than wiping the sump out  Oh and it looks fab 8) why does it need a respray? If its just tired looking paint i can help with that

I done this to my car, i put the DDI dials in with a red backlit LCD so wanted the rest of the switches etc to match so i bought a bunch of red LED's and sat there over a few nights on the kitchen table with a soldering iron carefully taking the switches apart unsoldering the green leds and soldering on the red ones. Worked out at a few quid really for the leds from local Maplins and was a doddle to do if you are fairly confident with a soldering iron. As for resistors, iirc you dont need them you just need to use certain volt/amp (always get confused between those 2 ) LED's think some are only 3 volt and some 9 or something like that. Do a search on it as its been covered before and you will get all the information you need from it. EDIT: Just remembered though that the heater controls doesnt use LED's is has a small bulb in the middle (heat) knob which shines through a green spider behind the controls (spider is basically a cradle of plastic legs that disperse over all 3 heater controls to spread the light out evenly). For this what i did is got parts from a passats heater controls which were a CLEAR spider/cradle and a red filter that fits on the inside of the heater controls plastic cover then i used a red bulb condom (cue giggles ) on the small bulb to make it shine even more red. It works but its not great tbh as its pretty dim, the middle is ok but the light doesnt disperse great so the outer controls are a bit dim. Others however have made their own led inserts which look great but bit more tricky.

Mass AirFlow sensor, its what is connected to the airbox with a big wire connected  basically it reads the amount of air coming into the engine and the ECU sets the fuelling accordingly.
-
Yeah you should be alright with one of them, orbitals i believe are easy to learn with. I was tight so bought a cheap Silverline Rotary and jumped straight in and although hard to get used to at first, its not rocket science and you would have to be pretty silly to burn through the paint imo!

Rabbit poo?? Yeah thats exactly what it was  nah its just some suds, i gave it a quick spritz before i took a pic as i forgot.
