any one else see RX8 in this? even so... i hope it's not as embarassing to own as an RX8 :( why'd they make the 8 so slow?! (and again to musicman and well like every good thing leo made he sold off haha)

hmmm... insurance must have to be more over there? i got my current corrado when i was 16... it was a car surely to soon hit the crusher if i didn't save it... but yeh def. younger than me i'm like a week or 2 away from 23 depending on todays date, i honestly don't even know...

fog and signal lights... difference in early and late?
vdubCorrado replied to vdubCorrado's topic in Exterior
hmm... sorry again... i thought that may have been just a regular corrado question... my bad... -
sorry if this sounds stupid but i am curious as to what the difference is between the early and late lights over there? here in the states i could only say early is G60 and late is SLC/VR6 and the only difference was that the way they mounted in the bumper... they were basically the same thing except in 1990 here the signal lights them selves were orange see picture if you've never seen... (sorry this rado of mine was in bad shape... i bought it for the sole purpose to save it from being parted. i fixed it to be able to be driven and sold it for what i had into it to someone who kept it and still has it this day! parting out perfectly good corrados is a big problem here in the states... people will part a great corrado just cause they don't like the color and we didn't get many here... not more than 20,000 from 90 to 94 which were the only years we got them) oh yeh, i ask this question about the lights cause i have a euro G60 bumper so to you guys your front bumper... refer to picture again for differences... we had side markers and no plate indent... sorry if you know this, i honestly expect no one tocause our US parts aren't worth much to anyone but ourselves haha

yeh unfortunatly i don't think it'd be worth having your car shipped here to be worked haha but if there's anything i could help anyone out with any of the rather reputable builders here (don't know if they're known there but i will not help or support any purchase of any EIP part. they screwed up my friend's black rado there and is the real reason it's in schimmels hands right now) but it may seem weird i guess to seem willing to help, atleast people here in the states seem so, but i've driven hours out of state just tp help someone work on their rado so they didn't blow it up and waste money like i did... i kind of always felt if i help people out here someday i'll get the favor returned... and well so far worked, i've met a few guys who started helping me get some parts brought here from across the pond, so it's all worth it in the end haha as said i do need to check this car out further, just been so busy with buying a house and work the only time to my self is to come on here... haha i don't even bother going to vwvortex.com anymore as for my friends wheels... it may take me a few mins to remember them i always forget but recall right when i walked away and have no access to tell who ever it is who asked... oh yeh but i don't think living close to schimmel is worth the balance of not getting any good cars here you have over there haha i want every VW we don't have here haha and Renault R5 and the new one of... uhh clio right? i know i love the 5 a friend of mine some how had one here... probably cause his parents own almost all the car delaerships around here mainly luxury and exotic...

haha awesome, i like to say cars, guitars, and girls myself, but the girls have to go, since i'm practically married... i like yours better, cars, guitars, and gas  love Marshall amps, honestly want to finish my degree in electrical engineering to hope to get a job working for Marshall amps across the pond!!! but i know how that goes with the parents as well the whole story sounds the same here, except my father used to drag race for profession, and my mother turned into well... you could insert your own choice word, and cause of her quit doing it, and as my father supported it, mother did not, and oddly enough ended up getting very little support from them for it... except insurance i thank them for that... i am jealous by the way you had a G40! i don;t belong here in the states i need out haha Jay has never claimed this, but the new owner has. I have never seen this car in the flesh, but have read all about it. If i had just bought this car, i would tell everybody that it is the single best corrado in the world. It may not be true in your eyes, but in mine, and many others, it certainly is... nah mate, there's alot more in it than that, its been rebuilt from the ground up, withh not only new VAG parts, but loads of different manufacturers in there. have a look at Jays threads to get some idea been busy but do want to check out his thread i keep hearding more and more, but i didn't claim he did as most people who would build a car that nice would not claim that, although the new owner did... i've had people say my rabbit was the nicest hands down in the united states and i would sit there and argue with them it was not... although i miss it... but i do love by the way when someone rebuilds with all VW OEM parts... i'd like to, but for suspension bushings i think i am going to be running poly... ShatnerSchimmel is God 8) That is defo the best Rado in the world imo.... yeh, schimmel lives about 2 hours from me, my best friends corrado is there being built... again... pulling his 2.9 12v and going 3.1 12v. (schimmel actually said not to run with the 24v he said when he's done he'll make more with his 12...) he is also putting in a full custom AWD setup consisting of mainly porsche parts, will have a dog box transmission, and the differential control will be ran through his stand alone TEC system... the cars gonna be incredible! i can't wait... i am thinking though of having shimmel build my 16v for me that way i know it's done right by someone who knows what they're doin here's my friends car last i saw it... 93 Corrado 53k original miles, and he's rebuilt it like 3 times over... spent over $60,000 in this car already... so what's that like uhh... i dunno £40,000 maybe? cars beautiful... mainly stock appearence because it such a low milage car, but built :D and here's the bay, although the intercooler, intercooler piping and some other stuff is off of the car now... oh yeh and he didn't want me taking pictures cause he said it was filthy under the hood
-
uhh where did he claim it was possibly nicest world wide... this thread http://www.edition38.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=52933 and lemme dig... "On saturday i purchased the best corrado in the country possible the world" but as i said it may be the nicest but from pictures i saw i personally thought this was more impressive, being that it had to be fully custom built... i will look into this persona car more, because i doubt there are many people who will appreciate a corrado much more than i do... i've spent hundtreds possibly a thousand actually just on corrado magazines, posters, brochures, anything that has to do with a rado for display for my car... but the way i ment my response was leading to ask that i was wondering what made it so impressive because it looked like a straight 24v swap from what i saw and as of now the most imopressive corrado i know of was that one. but then again i do bias twords HP... i bought a 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra just because of it's power capabilities... i am no wherenear done messing with it and it already makes 500hp to the wheels... on a stock supercharger no less... but i have to stick up for the under 25 year olds... everyone always gets on "kids" for having nice cars they shouldn't have and say it's cause of their parents... maybe, but i noticed not the case half the time... i am 23 in 2 weeks, i work a full time job, just bought a house, well bust my ass at work some days but i usually run heavy equiment and this year alone i will nearly hit the high class for income... am i rich? shit no haha, but my priorities are cars... cars before anything and "kids" like me usually seem to be the same way... so that's about all i have to say i guess... i will look into this car more, sorry if i offended anyone it was not ment to be offensive, i was just curious and got excited that someone may have had something nicer that what i thought was the nicest so i guess excitement could have seem offensive? sorry... it's hard to resist... RHD parts... conversion questions
vdubCorrado replied to vdubCorrado's topic in General Car Chat
yeh, well i'm still asking prices around i'm so much at a toss up when it comes to this... but here is another reason i am thinking of going RHD... *Mod Edit - Please resize huuuuuuuuuuge pic and re-post :)* don't knock too much... the dask kit is everywhere and well when i bought the car the first time it was "cool" at the time, but now i look at it and i don't particularly care for it and it would probably be easier for me to put a whole new dash in that take the kit off neatly incase someone wanted to buy it and clean the dash... oh and the shift light and boost gauge are now gone, and the god aweful shift boot gone as well haha -
haha... curious as to what is done to this car besides the 24v swap? cause he claims nicest world wide... i mean it's possible but i know of some bad ass Corrados here in the states... i know bill schimmel built a mid engine, rear wheel drive, fully built 24v VR6 twin turbo, and dog box transmission... that may be as of now the nicest i know of... see more here... http://www.schimmelperformance.com/main ... orrado.htm

THE END OF AN ERA....24v V6..... ITS GONE!
vdubCorrado replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in General Car Chat
haha... that sucks that you sold... i did the same... spent 3 years tracking it down to get it back... by the time i got mine back it was all stock basically... still bought it... sentimental value haha p.s. A1 Rabbits are a good time if you're looking for a project haha here's some pics of my many time show winner... always had a problem with keeping the cut out on the Bonrath MK2 bumper staying put though... miss it... and the worst part is the kid i sold it to put bigger injectors in it and did nothing to fuel management, the CIS fuel pump cracked and basically he refuses to fix it... if i weren't buying a house i would buy it back today... -

it's hard to resist... RHD parts... conversion questions
vdubCorrado replied to vdubCorrado's topic in General Car Chat
Well I do understand off of you points with 'euro' really being LHD but well I guess I mean UK when it comes to that... I dunno... but yes I am well aware my car will be illegal in every way shape and form haha but in the state I am buying a house in I only ever have to have it inspected once as long as I own it and emission/smog tested every 2 years till the car is 20 years old maybe 15... either way I'm not far off... but I will have all of my US parts to have it inspected... but I guess like many said I will stick to LHD... I hope none of my responses seemed offensive in any way I guess the way I word things throws people off sometimes and I do appreciate all input... Thanks, Justin -

vdubCorrado replied to vdubCorrado's topic in General Car Chat
actually it won't really be a US spec corrado when i'm done... only thing US about my Corrado will be is it was shipped here with a VIN for this country... being it was made in germany in thr Karmann plant like every other Corrado, and every part that makes a Corrado a european Corrado will be found on my car... so much so i am ditching the G60 engine to run a 16v, now reguardless it's a fully built 16v that will be turbo, but i completely chose the 16v engine because it came stock in europe where as it was not even an option here in the states. i already has the most part of what makes a corrado euro but the RHD drive will hopefully take it to the next level... not only will the car be euro with a fully built 16v turbo, i will also shortly after the engine is built be looking to get either rallye golf or golf syncro AWD parts to make the car AWD... i am also trying to get a G60 Jet interior for my car so i can take out the red dot cause US Corrados along with Euro corrados had them... (atleast what i'm told and seen on here) so yeh... i want my car in no way shape or form want this car to be a US spec... for my own gratification and while i am at it i can use it as an excuse with the girl for show purposes... not only would it be cheaper it would save me ALOT of work... unfrotunatly it is what i am told impossible to get a euro corrado here in the states street legal... i would have to convert all euro spec parts to US parts along with making the car become equipped with air bags, which is tough because the no US Corrado ever had air bags, the only Corrado i know of is the 95 Canadian Corrado and their bumpers what i am told does not pass US safety requirements... not only do i love Corrados but my Corrado and i have a hell of a history... basically spent $20,000 on this car once already, sold it, between all the owners after me basically stripped all the stuff i put money into but got it back for sentimental reasons and are starting all over again with no regrets... thanks, Justin -

vdubCorrado replied to vdubCorrado's topic in General Car Chat
HAHAHA bill gates... what a lucky bastard... part of the reson being i want RHD drive is show... no one i ahve ever seen show a corrado here in the staes has been a RHD corrado... i've actually even tried to just straight up import a corrado here but if i bought a corrado form UK to here you knwo damn well i'd want to drive it... and well in turn i'd end up doing somethings that may not belegal if i could not register the car as "kit" car or a lost title car over a certain age... which ended up seemign to be a pain and i want to do it... that and i really want to drive RHD haha i want to move to england... seriosuly but the girl doesn't like the idea... my dream job is to be designing amps for Marshall Amplification... too abd i never really did much of my electrical engineering degree... although i can hand build some of the older Marshall amps... that and the movie shawn of the dead was hilarious haha what point that has i don't know... but i said it... -
so i've been dying to do a RHD conversion on my Corrado... i know i need the dash, bezel, climate controls, steering rack, brake system (because RHD is a 2 part brake i am told?), oh and down pipe on a G60 (but since i am swapping engines i would not need) am i missing anything? i really want to do this, but i would like to know all the parts i need... and anyone selling? i'm not even sure what i would be able to get all the parts for plus shipping... i was given a price by someone back here in the states but i don't know if it was all the good of a price or not... and shipping was alot... any info would be appreciated! thanks Justin

well either Scat or Eagle... they actually come from the same forger believe it or not... they'll feed you all kind of lines why theirs are the best but all in all that's the case... it's nice to have worked at a distributor as large as i did eventually word gets around and you start to learn some of this haha... but i know scat will help you out finding what you need where if it's not in the basic eagle catalog their reps will simply say no they don't have it... just tel who ever you're getting the scat rods from you want them for a 2.0L 9A engine code... their listing doesn't specify if they'll work with a PL and usually will play safe say they don't know and would prefer not to sell them to you incase they won't... but they will...

G60 purchase advice needed or anyone want to buy one??
vdubCorrado replied to H8RRA's topic in General Car Chat
haha it's too bad this isn't a states question being as i know what the market value of the corrados are at almost any point in time here cause i run the classifieds of the Corrado Club of America... but guessing by the £1300 range for a clean G60 value of them may actually less over there? -
both 1.8L PL and 2.0L 9A rods are the same length at 144mm long... i hear the 1.8L PL rods are actually lighter so if you want to use OEM ones i would use the 1.8L to cut down on the rotational mass, especially if you plan to lighten the car... for every hundred pound you drop off of rotational parts is like dropping 200lbs off of the car... the problem would be by changing the rods would be that you would be changing the compression ratio... you would not shortening or lengthening the stroke to gain power since that is the crank's job... and since you would be gaining CC's you would be dropping in compression ratio, the distance between the piston and the cylinder head which comprises the combustion chamber... and personally i would not drop below the 8.0:1 you have in your G60 now... but that's just me...
-
i don't see it to be a major mod... i see it to be a much better decision that selling a car he already has to buy a car with a G60 when the 16v has more potential... it's also not killer work to run a 16v G60... swap over all of the belt system and accesories from the G60 and bolt them up they're the same block... just the internals head, and engine code stamp are different... so after you've retro'd all of the supercharger bit on, you can swap over the digi system as well or run stand alone, obviously being more expensive... so yeh it sucks.. you;re down and out with out a car for 2 weekends but i still see it being a better choice and selling to get a G60... but that's just me...
-
alright, so now i know about the km... but question not... i mean if you really question i could probably get the dyno sheet off of him... i assume he still has it, i don't see why not. last i checked i still have my stock G60 dyno where i put 129.9 to the wheels on a dead stock G60... i'm sure those results aren't typical but it shows they can make much more than any G60 i have ever seen make, whether it be supercharged or turbo...
-
S2000 needs to be put in their place... need to be put in their place at 9,000RPM! oh god, someday i'll own one... (not cause i can't afford it, i always find faster cars for the money... like my 350Z but i let my brother borrow and total. my current ford mustang cobra, supercharged and mildly worked expecting over 450hp to the rear wheels) i guess i can't lie... i like hondas...
-
HAHA sorry, i find this hilarious... i'm tearing out my G60 to put a 16v in it... and pretty much so is everyone else in the states... i've personally found if you want to make any real power you need to go 16v with forced induction... now i know people will jump to disagree but i feel the 16v is VW's best power making engine... friend of mine in a montana green GTI 16v turbo on a stock 16v put 426hp to the wheels... problem being i don't know what system you use for power over here... but if it helps for this comparison the stock PL 1.8l 16v made 127hp and the stock 9A 2.0l 16v made 134hp, the G60 PG engine made 158hp in 1990 and 161hp in 1991 and 1992 (maybe it was 160 even) and the G60 engine maxes out it's power right around 250hp to the wheels... i also feel the 16v turbo is far superior to the VR6 turbo as well... i've seen too many forced induction VR6's running high 13 second in the 1/4 mile (and i know you use km but i don't know what it is... but i'll finish and you can atleast get the idea what i am going for) while my friend was running mid 12 second. actually my friend even bent his linkage a bit when he hit a rather bad pot hole while trailering the car on a dolly to the track (again not sure so i play safe... dolly only holds up the front wheels and uses the car's rear wheels to roll with it) and with out 2nd gear, going from 1st to 3rd still ran a 13.4... faster just about any stock engine VR6 with forced induction... i say keep the 16v, dump on the CIS system and run stand alone (SDS simple digital systems is a great cost efficient system and easy to tune) then turbo and the car will be faster thank you could have ever dreamed haha (sorry for all the little explanations in between i do not know all that much about europe i guess just what i've set out to learn myself... so i figure next year i'm gonna visit as much of it as i can haha and hit up the junk yards hopefully you guys can poitn to a few good ones  )
-
too bad it's a rocco... or wait, maybe in a few year we'll get a more advanced styled VW called a Corrado again  but the person above me named musicman... your name influenced at all by ernie ball musicman basses? (i love my sterling if so...)
-
haha i'm gonna go half smoke on the tails, but i like the wiper shaved, but man i really like the functionality of it... that and having to have my whole hatch rapinted again to shave sucks since i was only going to do that small part... oh and i'm thinking of making the roof between the rain gutters black... i've always liked that look...
