Will get some pic's up tommorrow, I have the day off to wait for delivery of my new car...... :D :D To be fair there's not a great deal to see different from earlier pic's, but will post some regardless, including the downpipe. I'll be at Edition38 for those who'd like a good nose. I still have a couple of issues with it; It's developed a funny intermitiant fluctuating idle problem and the emissions are still not spot on - but not out enough to cause any problems; its still highly driveable.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'm well up for a Bristol/Bath meet; I'd actually quite like to show it off :D I've just been out for a run on my private test track, there's one bit just like a motorway slip road, joined it at about 40mph in third, floored it, was doing 85 by the time I joined the track left it third and it pulled right up to 95, slammed it into fourth and it pulled right up to 130mph in barely anytime at all - going up hill. :) The more I drive it the more I love it. So much induction noise - think the ebay filters going to get sucked into the engine! Loving the buckets of instant grunt. Before I got it on the road I was kind of wishing I'd opted for an R32 but I think its a perfect amount of power for the Corrado, plus R32's tend to go for around £1500, I did all mine for that. I fitted my 11" Spal fan earlier and replaced the dented gearbox inspection cover. Temp sat on 80 / 85 degC for the whole drive and no more noise from the gearbox.

nothing without gullwing doors.... still kinda want it though.
-
I am sorry. I must have missed your comment earlier. Or was I just making the point that one 11" Spal fan has been proven to be sufficient for a turbo charged VR6 so I can therefore be confident it'll cope with a N/A motor....? I never make a decision based on one persons perspective / opinion, you did help with the clarification though. Thank you. oh and are you as short with people in real life as you are in your posts? Or just too lazy to type more than is completely necessary?

Calling planet Zog -is there room for Gordon Brown
ziderapple replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
I would like to point out I am not anti-Scottish, I have nothing against them, and in fact some of the funniest and down to earth people I know are Scottish. I just meet alot of people through work, who are far from happy with Brown and inequalities between the English and Scottish parliments - and to be fair the Welsh assembly. I think one problem here is that the Scottish have a reputation for hating the English. (I'm not trying to start a war here!) You cant deny that statement. I am not saying every Scot hates the English, just stating a fact. The reason for bad feeling is simple; The British parliament at Westminster contains MPs from all four UK nations. It does not, however, control what happens in Scotland on matters which are devolved -
Bought one earlier off the bay, genuine SPAL 11" sucker coming with a fitting kit. I read on a different thread that haywire only needs one on his VRT, so I'll just run with the one on mine for now and see how it goes. Curved blades, seller emailed me and said its a newer version with an uprated motor too. Is the general concensus now to link the speed one and two wires to act as a back up incase the rad stat fails? Cheers.
-
Is this being added to the knowledge bank?
-
Cool, thanks for the info. Where did you get your fans from?
-
What would people reccommend for a 24v? Would just the one 11" or 12" be sufficient or do I need two? Where do I get the straps from? Glad you ditch the existing housing as thats the main bit I want to get rid of. cheers
-
Just a quick question for those in the know, how do you mount a SPAL fan? I take it you ditch all the metal work on the original and just screw it into the exisitng bolt holes on the bare radiator?? Existing rad with a 24v is just too close. :( Pics of installed ones and which one to order and where from would be excellent! (dont want too much do I..?) Thanks in advance.
-
Take off is excellent :D Completely different beast to the 12v. Best bet for pics is to look at my build thread, although I've not got a downpipe pic up yet, will try and take some clear pictures this weekend. I must say its quite similar to the r32 one Karl posted, kink in one downpipe to clear the steering column, but on mine it goes into one pipe, then a big flexi then joins onto the old VR cat. Seems to work well.
-
Cost is a few posts up, but £200 all in for the downpipe. Appears to be in stainless too. It mated up to the old cat, so only runing the one, deleted two lamda's and kept two which are quite high up, one in each down pipe (before it mates into one). I'll try and get a pic up of the downpipe for those interested. Oh and found the source of the gearbox noise... mechanic told me the gearbox was fecked.... I had a look and somehow when it was off the inspection plate has become dented which is obviously rubbing on something, if you press another part of it to flex it the noise goes! Ordering a new one today. cheers.

I love my newly found extra 12 valves. :D Instant grunt!
-
Great shots! Best one for me is the third one up from the bottom. Looks smarter then a smart thing.
-
OK, I dont think my earlier post's got across the 24v feeling. Having been able to go out for a proper rant tonight, IT'S F**KING AWESOME!! I'm so pleased. I'd go as far to say I prefer it to when I fitted the s/c  sure the s/c VR was faster, but I just love how responsive it is now. Way too easy to wind it up to a tonne without really noticing and it sounds fapping great.
-
 Good work that man! Oh and you do realise your current thread title is open to some abuse; "... an odd sensation" :camp:
-
Cheers Gav. Feel free to take planty of pic's at ed38. :) Well I got to drive it properly tonight, and...... I love it. So responsive, the normal VR lethargy is completly gone, it shoves as soon as you blip the throttle, makes a lovely growling sound and is pretty rev happy. Still not had a chance to fully open the taps as its got no MOT so had my brother follow me, I dropped it off at the testers after picking it up but I did manage to have some ring road fun on the way. I will get some pics up tomorrow. The cost? Engine, ECU, loom: £700 Custom downpipe: £200 ECU defeat, wiring, pedal, 2 new lamda's etc £540 Grand total of £1440 - I dont think thats too bad. :D True cost is probably slightly higher due to oil, coolant etc but thats just service stuff I would have bought this year anyway. Feels so fu**ing good to be back behind the wheel of a Corrado :luvlove:
-
Have you not finshed this little job yet... :? Your standards are slipping! Seriously though, good work, bet you cant wait to get it back on the road! Even if it is only a 2.8 now  Just kidding, I'm only running a 2.8 now, but it does have 12 more valves than yours he he he Think that spinny snail thing might mean yours is a bit quicker though... :(
-
There is tons of room for one..... Sadly, unless an s/c kit comes up for silly money I wont be force feeding it, I need to clear the credit card and save for my house deposit :? Boring I know but pretty essential. I'll be at Edition 38 for those who'd like a spin or go in it. :)
-
Oh, and I'm hoping to have this delivered in the next week or so!
-
Cheers Griff, your car sounds mighty fine too :D Karl, how does it feel? Well although I've not got it back properly yet..... it feels goooood!! Went to the auto-electricians workshop last night to sort out the power steering leak. Then fired her up, dissapointed was not the word, sounded like a complete bag of nails. Noisy, with a rough idle around 500rpm. Discovered the exhaust fitters had only nipped up the bolts onto the manifold, so tightened those up and it sounded much, much better, but the idle was still rough. We could hear it hissing/sucking in air, after a quick search we found a small break on the inlet manifold - looks like a hose was once connected that no longer needed, filed that down, bit of gaffer tape over it and oh yes, it sounded sweet :D With the bonnet down you can barely hear it! Took it for a short blast and really was short as I couldnt take it of the trading estate, bit it moves, really moves, the powers there instantly, wheels lit up in second gear easily. Few issues to resolve, the temp guage on the dash is miles out - so he's going to calirbate that with a ressistor to bring it inline. Also the oil warning buzzer comes on when you take it over two thousand rpm - this he said is due to the fact that originally there is a low oil pressure switch 0.6 bar and a high 1.8 bar, for some reason vw have dropped the high oil pressure switch, so he's going to do something with that. The only other thing thats highly annoying is there is a horrible rattle that disapears when you depress the clutch - must be the thrust bearing - clutch is working fine, not sure whats happened, I did bolt the box back up in the dark.. Its MOT is up so I'll pick it up on monday night then take it to my local VW specialist, he can pop the 'box off do the thrust bearing then get it through the MOT. I also got the guy to do me an uprated wiring loom so I can see at night now! I'm still not 100% sure about the power steering leak so he can do all that for me, the rack is not the easiest thing to work on without ramps!! Can't wait to take it for a proper blast! It felt so, so good :D

Looking at the pic of the hoses my brother works for Delphi. Oh and the markings on the die's, two HSS and one CS - carbon steel??
-
Well, car is now turning over and running fine :D :D As seems to be my luck there was another problem, the banjo bolt on the power steering pump is leaking, so after having been run for a while, the next day he noticed overnight it had dumped aload of hydraulic fluid on the floor!! :mad2: So, he's getting a couple of new washers for it this avo (I lost one of the originals and used one from Halfrauds) fitting them, then thats it. Problem is he seems to be flat out busy all the time, getting called out and often gets dragged away from working on my car. So, I'm not going to hold my breath on getting it later. Still end is in sight. :) So glad its running, he said it sounds smoooooth, although there is a lot of induction noise - down to my £10 filter off the bay...

I find it hard to believe it takes two weeks to go onto the system if you do it online. I wouldnt bother buying online if your tax has run out, get to a Post office. I taxed my Corrado online halfway through the month - I had to, but a delay in post meant it didnt turn up for 6 days, I thought no worries I'll keep the online reciept in the car should I get stopped, explain and it should be ok. Then some tit of a copper did me for "failure to display.." at 2am!!! I was fu**ing livid, all he had to do was run in a check on the PNC data base, which would have told him it was insured, mot'd and taxed online. Crap out of date system. I have been a victim of car crime so many times and all I get from coppers in return is a fixed penalty notice. They have done sweet FA about break-ins on my car. An old car I had got broken into under a CCTV camera, they didnt seem to care at the time, I kept on at them giving them all the details so they'd go and get the film from the camera. I was first told 'its probably some local scrote we wont be able to do much about..." :cuckoo: Then I got a call off them about their "investigation" - 3 MONTHS LATER to say the camera was off that day.... Bollox. It's just another reason for making me want to leave this country. So, in summary, dont give the bastards a chance to catch you if you can help it.

I think the red rocker cover looks gay. Just kidding, looks as cool as school. Oh, the package turned up today. Thanking you. :D
