New ECU got the plugs sparking, but he found the pump wasnt delivering the fuel. Turns out the supplies to the fan controller, aux water pump and fuel pump are burnt out..... could well point to why my last engine failed so quickly.. too much heat and running lean anyone? Anyway, he's going to rewire those bits and said I'll have it this week, but I'm off to Glastonbury on Wednesday night, so not too fussed about getting it this week. I will post up as soon as I get it back, expect some woop woop's. :D

Sorry to hear about this, been a victim of crime far too much, especially in the last year or so. How cool would it be if they had glued thier hand to the steering wheel by accident.... by the time one was finshed the car would look like the one from Pulp Fiction where Vincent blows Marvins head off by accident. The cnuts that do this kind of thing will only learn one way, and it aint a fu**ing asbo or a slap on the wrists. Good luck getting it sorted.

Advice on what to do with a screwed (low miles) VR6 engine..
ziderapple replied to Jim's topic in Engine Bay
Find yourself a borked 2.8, get it bored out to 2.9, then you only need new rings. I went 24v instead of this route, I decided rebuilding a 2.9 bottom end is...... I wont finish that sentence, but you could pick up a 2.8 bottom end for next to nothing then build that up using the 2.9 pistons to the exact OE tolerances. No messing around with oversized pistons :gag: You'd be looking at around £200 for the re-bore, up to you what you do with the head and obviously depends on condition but with only 50k on it it shouldnt really need any work. Then you just need the usuals, chains, gaskets etc and there's obviously people on here with the right skills willing to help. You could get it sorted for around a grand. :) -
We dont actually know what the problem was - but there was a section of the loom which got pretty badly crushed when lifting the engine, there was two screened wires which got damaged, these were repaired, we think the 5volt outputs from the ecu shorted down to earth and killed part of the ecu. either that or I was supplied with a duff ecu...

Hope your feeling strong and/or have some help as the vr crank weighs a ton. Be careful. I had a call earlier re my 24v - new ecu is sending a spark to the plugs now  just needs to sort a fueling issue - easy - I pulled a relay out when compression testing the old engine. So he siad it'll be ready for collection tomorrow night. :D Cant wait to take it out. :D

Well you'd have to take the crank off aswell. I dont think you'd ever get them back in that way either - they can be a pain from the top due to the angle of the bores, there is a special tool for getting them back in. Incidentially I own one, so if you need it in the future give me a shout. HTH

Back made a quick recovery James! Glad to see you getting on with it. so whats the plan 2.8 bottom end?

x-fuctor  -
Good news. Thought it was going to be something more serious than that. Thing is, why was that plug all fouled up?

Supercharging my car and the RX's I'm afraid to say were Credit card purchases... All other work has been paid for with cash, including those unexpected expensive bills we all get now and again (that arent really unexpected at all  it is a raddo after all..). My 24v conversion is a cash only affair though :D Cant beat the feeling of handing over cash for something and knowing thats it, done, bought, no interest building up, nada. Slightly off topic, but has anyone ever done the Experian credit expert thing and had a look at your report and score, had to do mine on friday due to a mix up -was getting worried I'd been cloned, all ok and sorted now though. Makes interesting reading - down side is it adds up all you debt for you, which can be a shock if you've been burying your head in the sand. Oh and the CC is well on its way to being payed off.

Cant wait to see this finished! Kinda wish I'd got a 3.2 now, ah well, cant all pick up engines as cheaply as you
-
:thumb right: Top man.

Fingers crossed, I'll have it soon. My wiring wizzard plugged my ecu into a 4mo yesterday and got the same fault as mine. He's sourced an ecu for me which he's going to try later tonight!!!! Really, really hoping its going to work. I need to drive it!

corozin, do you have a build thread or mini site anywhere? Want to read about you tuning route. If you havnt, pull your finger out man and get a thread started in the members gallery! Oh and I've spent rather alot on my C in the last two years - not a single bill, or even all garage bills but would say around £5k!! Why did I just do that quick sum? :( Still, thats including a go at force feeding, rebuilding an engine, set of spanking new 17" RX's and a 24v conversion. Only money, cant take it with you.
-
:( Still not got it back. Cant get a spark to the plugs. Tried a new coil pack, no difference, then tried new cam and crank position sensors - still not working.. found some crushed screened cable in the loom whcih has been replaced. Still no joy. Spoke to him last night, said he's going to get a mate to check the timings all ok...... I seriously hope it is!!! He said his money was on a faulty ecu now... Great.

Gutted for you man. Hope you find out who did it so you can do a drive by on their car with a super-soaker and some brake fluid, bricks,.. you get the idea. Now, I know this is not even in the same leauge, but I picked up a Brand spanking new Passat. Drove it 100 odd miles home. Next morning I went out to it and some :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: had pelted it with eggs. :bad-words: Was so angry and felt pretty gutted. Car had less than 150 miles on the clock... :( That was in mid April. Same thing happened two nights ago - although it was just one egg this time, but I was still pretty fu**ed off, was pretty embarrasing driving through London with splattered egg on the car. Still, chin up. :D Hope you get it sorted.

:( Had a call this morning... No spark at the plugs. New coil pack tried and still no joy. Going to try a new cam and crank position sensor tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Bit gutted to be honest, was really expecting to be out in it tonight. Ah well. Chris, I think some people believe the throttle reponse of a cable throttle is better.. Plus it saves fitting a DBW pedal, not thats its a big deal.

T'is a shame you'll miss all the summer shows, and we'll miss your C!! still think of the money you'll have to lavish on it when you get back! Take it easy mate. Oh and just to get you jealous I'm picking up my C all 24v'd and ready to go tomorrow night! :D :D
-
Storm told me they used OBDII throttle bodies for 24v conversions? Perhaps thats just for the 2.8's though? Dont know. I wonder if there's much difference between the 2.8 and 3.2 looms?
-
mani looks 8) I should be picking mine up this week - imagine how excited I am! Oh and R32 and Rotrex is just plain greedy Karl. I could only stretch to a 2.8 24v so I think you should let me have the Rotrex :D

I had a new downpipe fabricated at an exhaust place in Bristol, new flanges and flexi with a lambda boss in both downpipes, can try and post a piccy up of it when I get it back if you like? Just rang the autoelectrician, he said it's almost definately going to be ready to collect on thursday night. Cannot wait to open her up, I've been driving a blue motion passat estate with a whopping 105ps for the last few months, so it should feel like a rocket ship :D So excited now.....
-
Will be picking it up this wed or thurs!!! :D Cant wait, I've not had any proper use out of the C for months and months. I will post up some pics and my comments as soon as I get it back. Think I might be pissing off the bloke who's wiring it up, I keep ringing him everyday asking how hes getting on with it! He had some probs with the ecu which caused a hold up, but thats all sorted now.

As someone who has to drive alot for work, if the conditions are safe I think there is an obligation on the person in the fast lane to be doing at least the speed limit - in fact that goes for all roads; open road, clear, in day light and dry - do the fricking speed limit!! Dont get me started on lorries on A roads that choose to over-take another lorry at +2mph on the only section of dual carrigeway that there has been a will only be for miles and miles. If you can barely overtake then whats the point?? I also have quite a loathing for middle lane hoggers! Oh and lane discipline in this country seems to be crap - I see so many people going around round abouts in practically a straight line - they use all three lanes sometimes and bollox to anyone who's either side of them. Think I need a career change

Ban him??!! BURN THE WITCH!!! :onfire: :evilbat: -
Storm looks lovely. :D Personally, there is no way I'd change anything about the car other than a subtle drop. The Solitudes refurb looks top notch!
