  1. hi all, recently had dodgy idle which i seem to have sorted by cleaning out the isv with carb cleaner and soaking in petrol for a couple of hours(plus getting a small screwdriver in and moving the ehhhh moving bit) also changed the throttle body(had a spare) now its time to do the accelerator cable which seems to be a bit stretched and is taking a second or two to release itself when i come off the gas. how easy is this? any tips would be great couldn't have fixed the idle prob without all the help cheers martin

hi all , i still cant believe someone did that ! i'll hopefully be getting a couple of recently bought mirrors painted and i'll get the front wing done as well. i also have a set of standard lights which i'm going to get painted either all red or black top half, not sure which way to go yet. sorry to hear you got scratched too Mav3, dirty b******s!!!! no point involving insurance i'll just add it to the already lengthy bill lol thanks for all the views guys :|
  5. hi, i have given it a good dose of carb cleaner but no difference ! there is also no difference whether the electric plug is attatched or not. i guess this means either no power getting to it or the isv is jammed. is there any way to un-jam it? will i just fill it with carb cleaner and leave it overnight? cheers martin
  6. hi, i'm about to do the same thing as my idle is really erratic. i have the same engine as you and if i'm right (which i'm not sure i am) the isv is black on it and it sits above the distributor cap towards the ht leads. on the end of the plastic pipe which is in the middle of the leads and the fuel pipes :)
  7. ok i'll give it a go. did it help yours ?
  8. hi all, what do i clean my isv valve with, is it carb cleaner? its idleing quite high all the time and only settles down when i unplug the isv? cheers all :)
  9. ok glenn i will do. although i'm not planning to be down there too soon cos if i do i'll be roped into some diy and i have plenty of my own. cant believe you used to stay round the corner. :) martin

  13. hi all, i tried to remove the throttle body today but one of the bolts(not a normal bolt , one of the star in the middle jobs) wouldn't come out. it was then i killed the bolt, the star bit chewed the middle out and now it seems that i will really struggle to get it out  i have got hold of a screw/bolt extractor set, without instructions but im guessing i need to drill a small hole and then unwind one of these things in, sounds not too bad but access is a bit limited ! anyway, could anyone offer any advice on this and can i get a new set of bolts from vw or gsf. any answers would be great. the engine is a 2.0 16v 9a by the way many thanks all martin

    clean engine

hi all, after looking at a lot of very clean engines i'm scared to lift the bonnet on mine ! what is the best way to get it looking clean is it steam wash or a jetwash thing with some sort of soapy solution? or is it a lot of toothbrushes  thanks , martin

    blown fuse

hi all, my fog lights have been blowing fuses continually since i got the car. i finally got round to investigating and found that the wire to the front left fog was jammed between the bumper and the front bit(not sure what it is called). anyway sorted that out but fuse still blew  then 1 disconnected the two front and tried again, the back were on ok 2 tried it with one front and it was also ok 3 joined both front on and the fuse blew again lol 4 put in a 20a instead of the 15a and seemed ok so the question is, will it be ok to keep the 20a in or am i risking more damage or even fire? any advice would be great or if anyone in or near glasgow who is good with these sort of things would like to help i'd be really grateful (but not like that) many thanks in advance martin
  17. hi all , as i said in my recent long winded intro i have had my c for just over a year, here are some recent pics. after having all parking dents and bumper scuffs removed and painted :)
  18. hi all, i have been using the forum quite a lot recently and just realised that i have not yet introduced myself. here goes . my real name is martin living in glasgow. 2.0 16v pearl blue(there are a couple of pics in the calendar entries). i have had the car for just over a year now....cost me £1750 and after various problems needing sorted ie air mass meter, fuel pump, distributor, throttle potentiometer, heater resistor thing, blocked exhaust/cat (which is now a magnex cat back) and the cat is no more the car is now running well. thank god i also put a set of 5 spoke wolfrace wheels on which are much nicer than the old scuffed things that were on it, although i never see them mentioned on here so i'm guessing they are a bit shitty. also i'm a celtic fan and season tickrt holder, just thought i'd mention that as i noticed that there are a couple of fans on here. now if your still awake well done later martin :D
