Hi gents, Yes it's the oil cooler that is leaking everywhere. I have installed new seals and made sure that the seal on the block surface as per the picture had the little wings attached. The block has been painted but I taped up all the mounting surfaces and have given it another quick sand to try and be extra certain. Yep I put a bit of oil around the seal prior to install and after the first oil spillage there was certainly more than enough oil around the seals on install. New inner seal is on order but it's an extra few days off the road which is realllllly winding me up!

Hi all, I'm getting to the end of my tether and am pretty fed up with my rebuilt Vr6. It's had every seal to do with the coolant system and oil system replaced so the theory was put the engine in, fill it with fluids and off we go. I spun the engine over with the coil pack disconnected to check that the oil pressure was good and allow some fuel to get to the injectors only to find that the oil cooler and the three sensors were leaking oil at an alarming rate. So much so I've probably lost +2L all over the floor!!!! So I've had the three sensors off, cleaned all the surfaces up and stuck them back in nice and tight which seems to have done the job. The oil cooler on the other hand was still pouring oil out from the front and back. I've taken it off and checked the seal to the block is positioned fine and still stuck on with it's little "ears" It still leaks! Any ideas???? I can order another seal which will take a few days to arrive so im prepared to try one or two more fits before I contemplate anything irrational.

the bottom left is my favourite, good pics of a great looking car!

It's been a good few weeks since I've done any work on the Corrado, a combination of a few weddings and track days but this weekend I made a bit of a step forward. new chains and tensioners on new seal new clutch, upper timing chain & tenioner bolts. no pics but new clutch fork and release bearing. The slave cylinder was replaced not long ago. Then manhandling the engine an box into the bay. driveshafts and manifold back on, the wiring is mostly sorted and just needs plugging into place Only things holding me up now are waiting for a oil temperature sensor, a new fan (i donated mine to my brother to keep him on the road!) Reckon it will be in for a MOT next week...

This is interesting! Any ideas how much it would cost to get a LSD installed? Assuming I'd remove the box myself

Cheers for the offer, Ive got hold of a Snap On battery gun which should be up to the job . if that fails i will see if my brother can stop by and grap your gun or your more than welcome to pop to stroud and il cover petrol money etc. Il keep you posted!

long story short, the bottom timing chain snapped on my engine so I am rebuilding it. I am at a stage where I want to fit the new chains. However unlike in all the guides when people remove the intermediate shaft bolt by locking the flywheel with the existing chain attached I don't have this option. Any ideas how to lock the sprocket in place so I can undo it - It's rated at 100NM so it's going to be on tight!!? So far I tried wrapping the old top chain around and locking the cams but without the top tensioner system in place the chain is too slack. only other ideas I have at the moment are trying to find my bike chain whip tool and borrowing a mates 24v impact gun an seeing if that works. Cheers Dave

Hello, can you clarify a bit, has the final drive been removed from the gearbox and is it available separately or is the box still all together for £20?

Looks beautiful, great pictures of the trip home to, that second pic side on with the sea in the background works well. -
The last few weekends have been spent helping my brother weld the hell out of his mk2 golf. Not been up to much on the Corrado other than cleaning and painting since I'm stuck waiting for a few parts most notably a engine mount, sump gasket, oil cooler seals. Shiny stuff It appears that the cleaners have ratted me out to the management company describing the car park as a scrap yard so in an effort to make the Corrado a bit more presentable whilst it's waiting for it's heart to be returned I put the wings & bonnet back on and put the car back on 4 wheels. It still looks jacked up!!!!!

Lovely, bodywork looks really straight.

Well done for saving another one!!! Apart from the sill the rest of it looks rather nice, i take it you bought it unseen?

Another busy weekend preparing the engine bay for the rebuilt engine. Since having a new tray in i decided to go all out and paint the chassis legs an bay. passenger: I did a few coats of Zinc primer first before a couple of high build primer prior to body colour driver side: whilst the paint was drying I carried on with the engine - removing the sump first Reason why!! more bits of timing chain tensioner!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then back to the paint... second coat I painted the chassis legs as well which are looking spot on now... good enough for a rattle can effort Painted the block to- Wilkinson barbecue paint haha The front cross member, subframe, anti roll bar, lower arms pretty much everything i could get to has been painted As soon as parts arrive its time to go back together!!!!!!!!!!!!

^ confused. From another topic a few years ago on timing chains: I'm about to order the Febi kit, £140 on ebay.

Basically has anyone on here bought one of these?: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-PASSAT-2-8-VR6-2-9-VR6-1991-1997-DRIVESHAFT-CV-JOINT-RIGHT-OFF-SIDE-DRIVER-/140785351424?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20c775fb00 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-CORRADO-2-9-VR6-1991-1995-DRIVESHAFT-CV-JOINT-LEFT-NEAR-SIDE-PASSENGER-/130720527868?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e6f8cf5fc Clearly they are cheap, i only need a outter cv joint on my nearside and was probably just going to buy a £25 Q drive thing from ECP so i wasn't going to buy OEM either way. Cheers for any opinions. Mike aka mrginge - Just on kerrly's laptop.

That's smart! What sort of spec is the engine then? -
ouch, real shame about that piston, certainly not the best start to G60 ownership! Key question, why do you think you melted a piston? aftermarket chip, too much boost, poor ignition/fueling any ideas? Looking forward to seeing another early corrado being saved to!!!!

it was quite a productive weekend! managed to fully coat the inner wings and start the inner sills with a good layer of waxoil. I decided that since this is a daily I more interested in protection and not to fussed on striping/repainting the arches DBP. Spent a bit of time cleaning the insides of the front wings in order to apply a coat of zinc primer , waxoil and for the inner arch lip and edges proper DBP paint. I'm also thinking of sanding and repainting the lower side skirt area as there are one or two areas where the stone chip looks a bit damaged, i reckon a rattle can job will be sufficient for now. Ive been really impressed with some custom mix paint from a local supplier (Middleton panels) and in less you are on your hands an knees I cant imagine you'd notice. Not sure if it was such a good idea but i have set myself a target of 3 more weekends to be up and running again....

a light polish just wont cut it for a concourse contender so full rebuild

You have to admire the commitment!!! have you dared to set a budget and a timescale... Good luck. -
double post. edit - love the silver Corrado above! just got a couple of press photos of a early silver corrado for the "VW wall" in the living room

lots of work done at the weekend, new battery tray plus a hole in the inner wing cut out/replaced. Started prepping the chassis legs and half way up the suspension turret for paint. Stripped/cleaned/waxoil the inner wings and the inside edges of the outer wing. Repainted the front tow eye and tower. Sanded the cross member, the lower cross member and radiator surround ready for gloss black. Started cleaning the block and engine bits up ready for some paint and spent the thick end of £500 on new bits...eek
