  1. I like, good balance between original and mildly modified! dave
  2. oh really, where the hell did you find that? i spotted them in the original brochure and they look spot on. I have a audi set up which i was thinking of putting in but id rather the 2 pod set up, am considering making a holder myself as well. I am based in Stroud, i usually go along to the E38 meets up at the air balloon and the mk2 golf owners meets so some of you may spot me. Who else is local?? dave
  3. Hello, The seatbelts are quite clever, the belts stay in the open position when the doors are open then when you close the door and turn the ignition on the belt moves along a rail which ends up at the top of the door pulling the belt across your chest. It is strange at first and im finding that when i want to twist to eg look out the back whilst reversing they are a bit restricting. Passengers love them! As for the other USA spec, i have no idea where it might be. Originally my uncle intended to buy more corrados and sell them in the UK as UK spec G60s were also left hand drive in 1989/90 it wouldnt have made much difference. US is far higher spec and due to the exchange rate he bought them at £14k when UK list was £19k The 7th Speaker is indeed in the middle of the dash board, if im honest i was really surprised how good the front speakers sound. Just a shame the rear ones are LAME. Got a chance to spend some more time on the car this evening. continuing from before... Rear seats Air Con - and it does work, iiiiiiiiiice cool Outside My favourite picture so far!
  4. Started giving the interior a bit of clean up on my lunch break. Basically under a tonne of dust is a totally original untouched interior, there are a couple of tiny marks on the door cards and the gear knob has a bit of wear but everything else has come up well + EVERY electrical component/switch works. The seat belts are quite the novelty and ive only been driving the car for a day yet i got into my golf earlier and it seamed really odd putting a belt on, then i made a TIT of myself by trying to get out the car having not taken my belt off  BTW - Im based near Gloucester if any of you are Corrado spotting! DAVE
  5. Hello, well im led to believe that it is unique as the only yellow US spec in the UK, but not the only US spec as 3 were brought over. I recall reading on here that there were apparently 16 Nugget yellow corrados in the uk as the colour was only available from 89-91 but im sure i have seen several different ones at various shows and out on the road. There must be 5 or 6 on here alone. Its strange as Nugget was a popular colour in America as yellow was used on the original promotional material and TV adverts over there so perhaps that has something to do with it, plus a lot of states are hotter/sunny compared to the UK. Plans are to keep it largely original, things i want to do are - swap wheels - but keep the seebrings to get refrubed - upgraded headlight loom - short shift on the gearbox - get a new rear number plate holder as i have the original Pennsylvania number plate that i would like to put on whilst at Shows. - fit the VDO guages to the centre consol as i really want a oil pressure guage - Fit a 10 or 13 row themostatically controlled oil cooler - Possibly look into FMIC - has anyone tried a Saab one????? - maybe remove the rear wiper - new VW badges front and rear + repaint the G60 badges. - fit a new stereo - I need to get hold of a USA spec > ISO adapter as my stereo is different to the UK ones as i have a 7 speaker set up. - De-Cat it and remove 1 silencer from before the back box. - Maybe get a panel filter or at least remove the snorkel in the box to make it a little louder. Beyond that i will do all those jobs like new bushes and general wear an tear items but my uncle has done a fantastic job of keeping it in very good condition.
  6. HELLO ive been a lurker around here for quite a while and now ive finally got my hands on the car that i have wanted since i was 8 years old. Bit of history, my uncle bought the car brand new from VW in Pitsburgh USA and imported it into the UK in 1989 - around the time the first Corrados arrived in the UK. He choose nugget yellow at the time as it was the car used in all the USA advertising campaigns. I even have copies off the original 'Motor trend" magazine and autocar that featured the corrado, the USA brochure, the USA sales guides and a pre release pack that was given to people who put deposits down on corrados. I have had several mk2 golfs and my current one is a GTI 16v in a one off mix of Royal blue and purple that i spent 2 years rebuilding from nearly a bare shell. And my new toy, Just the one pic so far as i want to give it a really good clean. As im sure a lot of you know the spec is quite different to UK cars :)
  7. Are your rear lights covered ith Laminex RED film? or were they M3 style ones that have been painted. The all reds look spot on against the Nugget!!!! dave
  8. Surely someone else must have had the vacuum pipe on the back of the clocks fall off so their MPG shows 99.9................. i had 37mpg out of the G60 yesterday , so far ive done 130miles on 6 US gallons and still have another gallon or so left from my original half a tank. dave
  9. They are a great example of a colour that was NOT popular in 1989-92 so not many were bought yet in more recent years the dark greens are a seen as a classy colour. I have no idea what the attraction is and i own one... but i sure as hell didnt pay any Oak Green Tax on it, circa £1k for a 120k FSH 3dr 16v a few years back. Im surprised that WHITE corrados arent seen as cool now as white has made a come back yet in the early 90s white was a POOR MANS choice and very uncommon. DAVE
  10. A Nugget yellow Rocco would look pretty dam cool! i found a bright yellow ish one i recall the USA getting a Imola yellow for mk3,mk4 mk5 golfs and those look prety smart to but that isnt as bright as Nugget.
  11. I have always viewed it as the most LOOK AT ME colour that VW did. The only colour that gets more attention is Harlaquins!! Strangely i get far more attention from plod for my blue mk2 golf with Hella Blue rear lights on it than the corrado does. dave
  12. if you strip the mk2 then advertise parts on vwgolfmk2/clubgti etc and they will go pretty rapidly as big bumper spec GTI parts are easy to offload as majority of non GTi owners would like them. whenever i strip cars i keep plastic boxes full of all the nuts/bolts/washers/trim clips/screws/trim covers/fuses/sections of wiring loom/fusebox as these can be really handy to have around and have saved me a few times as some bolts are VW specific and hard to find elsewhere. Problem with the 8v is its lower spec in terms of running gear to a corrado so brakes, hubs, driveshafts, gearbox etc are all useless or a downgrade. dave
  13. It is more likely that he has a 16v block with a 8v PB head which with a diesel turbo fitted. A 8v head on a 16v block gives a 8-1 CR or there abouts. Hence people have used KR or 9A blocks to build 8v turbos. Plus a diesel Turbo is only light pressure and due to GTD being a 8v set up to the head is very similar so i should think the exhaust manifold is a straight fit. Only slight issues could be clearance between inlet and turbo. Certianly very possible to run on Digi management with this set up to. dave
  14. surely any late 80s hot hatch fits into this catagory as this is the golden era for small fun cars and £2-3k gets you some of the best examples or how about some of this lot... alfa 146/GTV Audi 80 coupe - 2.3 5cyl or v6 - cabriolet option + quattro as well... BMW - E30 318is /325i E36 - M3 Citreon - Xsara VTS - 2.0 16v 150 odd HP, essentially a 306 GTI- 6 with 5speed + dead cheap Honda - CRX - mk1 wedhe shape with VTI lump, Prelude 2.2 V-tec JDM narrow body ;-) Lanci Delta - HF 8v turbo perhaps not integrale Mitshubishi - starion turbo, 3000GTO Nissan - 200sx, 300ZX - 2seater short wheelbase turbo model.. not the 4 seater UK spec Pug - 309 GTI goodwood (depreciation proof?) 306 GTI-6 Seat- Ibiza cupra 20vt Toyota - Mr2 turbo, supra -3l TT version , 2 seater option available. oh an the mx5
  15. Hi people, my uncle owns a USA spec Corrado G60 (he imported it in 89 before any rados had arrived in the uk) which has its original US Headunit in it still. problem is the radio is playing up and the tape deck is pretty useless these days. Does anyone know of a US audio supplier who can do a adapter to fit a Universal ISO block? I had a look at a UK spec ISO adapter from Halfords and the power harness fits fine but the speaker wiring is different as a USA spec rado has a extra speaker in the middle of the dash so there is a extra set of pins to power the middle speaker by bridging the pos from legt an neg from right speaker ( i think) Cheers for your help, thought it worthg asking before i begin chopping wires. DAVE
  16. um the only mk2s with 2.0 16v as standard were in USA. it is highly likely that someone has put a 2.0 9A from a corrado into your car, it maybe a 6A from a Audi or a ABF tall block from a mk3 based vw. The only way your car could be a 2.0 16v from new would be if it was a RE2000 conversion which isnt strictly a factory engine it was a VW approved conversion. If its a RE2000 you might well have a inlet manifold that says BRM. The conversion comprises: Steel crankshaft of 92.8mm stroke, Cylinder block specially machined with 82.5mm bore, Lead-Indium heavy duty crankshaft bearings, Alloy pistons with valve clearance cut-outs, Gasflowed cylinder head, Re-profiled inlet and exhaust valve throats, Gasflowed inlet and exhaust manifold, Selected valve springs, Modified injection system. good for 170hp!!! Hope this helps dave

Yo Nath, no escaping me lol I like the sound of your plans, smoothing an subtle changes to the exterior is also my way of doing things. Having looked into US spec stuff i did find a company - "ARZ tuning" in Germany who supply Euro OEM+ US spec stuff and you can view there website in English which helps! I didnt see corrado bumpers on there but wasnt looking so they might do them! If not the guys on VWvortex can be helpful as its US based so somone might know a part supplier. Dave - was in year below us, either way his rado was running 2.9 with a grant motorsport head, 264 cams, 6 branch and straight through system- still had the cat on it due to strange running problems . Although 233hp is good the engine has a lot more to give, the ECU was duff and the piston rings were shot to pieces. The main reason his did so well is the head - really shows what a difference a well ported/flowed head can do with a good set of cams. Id rather run DR 288s though an look at the C2 motorsport software and that spec should be pushing toward 240/5ish. your hesitation issue may well be the leads and ignition related!! DJ - still doesnt realise how lucky he has been with his golf, next to no issues in the time he has had it- its a good one. he did say if the 16v does ever go he'd VR it but doesnt look like engine going anytime soon an its on 150+k now lol. My silver golf bit the dust- rotted to death, still have the blue one which may put VR in and hopefully picking up the rado next month :-) take it steady dave

AHA i found you MR Fish yo nath, Just posted on ur Facebook, was hoping it was a mystic blue storm you got . Looks bloody nice mate, very original and a perfect base for a project. Guess you have T-Cut it now - Bluey purple goodness no doubt, The colour is very similar to my golf. What kind of look you going for.. a bit of research show you like US spec bumpers - interesting... hope you have had a chance to service it now. the HT leads are very important - dub power /storm/stealth all supply uprated ones. You know Dave Wathen dont you.. we went up to Storm developments in his recently an some decent leads added 6hp where is original ones were breaking down an arching at high revs. He saw 233hp in the end - DJs valver put down 156hp to which is a pretty much standard engine excepty exhaust /air filter. Dave
  19. thanks for the input so far. i realise what you are all saying about a LHD being harder to sell and perhaps less desirable but at the moment i have 1st refusal on it and the owner is unsure of the value, i will not be paying market price. I do recall seing a black g60 LHD which was a German spec so was lower than the one i am looking at and that was on Piston heads for £2000, it very hard to find LHD models to compare it to, even early UK spec LHD models seem very hard to souce. I would certainly not be converting it to RHD, as much as LHD will give me a few issues like in car parks drive thoughs etc i can cope and part of the terms of sale are that is to remain "fairly" original. I have known the car since new and know it has a full service history and every job that has needed to be done has been however the supercharger has never been rebuilt, i understand it is recommended they are done at 60-80k if standard but to be honest the way it is currently driven it rarely sees over 3.5K revs and is never abused or even used to half of its potential, It will be a good bargaining point though!!
  20. hi people. am not the most frequent visitor here and dont have a corrado (yet) but am a total dub nut - more a golf man but use this forum as a good source of info on 9a engines. anyway i have the opportunity to buy a rather special in my view rado but neither me or the owner really know a rough price. here is the spec Its a LHD 1989 Rado G60 USA spec. my uncle bought the car brand new and shipped it back to Britain before the 1st rados were even on UK soil. it benefits from a few items not on the UK spec list like - Electric Seat belts - Air Con - cruise control - metal electric tilting sunroof - half leather recaros - like Golf Rallye style. + all the usual electric windows, mirrors (heated as well) , central locking etc Its nugget yellow, has 80K on it obviously 1 owner , a FULL service history including every receipt, MOT, tax disc everything you can imagine. It is all totally original including the stereo , spare wheel never used nor jack or tool kit, suffered its 1st failure yesterday- A fuse! the only thing letting it down is the paint is starting to fade a bit, one wing has been resprayed about 10 years ago and that has been the only paint work the car has ever had. Now obviously if this was a RHD UK it could be argued it would be worth more but i am not that fussed by the LHD as hopefully i will be using it as a show car/ weekend toy. i will get some more pics but here is one to give you the idea thanks for your input!
  21. The easest option if you are on a limited budget would be to buy a complete 2.0l 9A engine block an head fit it as one unit and get it running. Then run the car about for a short while to make sure the engine is sound an whilst your are doing that get the KR head off your old engine have it reworked port polish/rebuild or whatever you decide on and then at a later stage put it onto the 9A bottom end. Also gives you the opportunity to replace head gaskets/leaky seal etc etc. Just a suggestion, its the way i completed a similar swap. was able to buy a decent 75k 9a out of a passat for 250 quid an head work on 1.8 is in region of 250-300 an you should be seeing a decent 170BHP or maybe a lil more + lots more torque :-)
