Bugger... :( back to the drawing board then as I'm going to need a LSD if my full plans come to fruition!!

Is it possible to swap the final drive from a CTN box into my CBA? Or do I need the whole CTN box? Just been playing with the gearbox thing in the Wiki as I have a serious problem ahead with my mk1 g60 conversion. The problem on the mk1 is the size of my rims. 8x14 on the front running 195/45/14 tires which gives me a change up speed of 50mph in 2nd at 6200rpm!! The ratios work out pretty good I think. Whats everyone elses opinion?

Any pics? that I would love to see!! In a kind of masochistic way!! -
Have you tried winding in the spoiler manually using the cog thing in the boot? might help reset things a little. I remember a while ago playing about with this thing and I didn't lock it back into place and my spoiler obviously wont move on the switch and sat half way up... just a guess. as for the central locking mate, like a recently felled tree, i'm stumped!!

Found this howler whilst on the hunt around. What can be said but good grief!!!

Sounds weird, but change the main lead from the battery to the starter motor and check the earth strap. My rado had this exact same problem but to a far worse degree. the lead was almost burnt through! why it would run better after being stopped left for a while and restarted is still to this day an utter mystery!! best guess was the lack of volts was affecting the ecu. The 1.8 16v is a sod for needing an excellent spark to run good. To the point that I would recommend anyone with a valver to check and replace this lead, the difference on mine was unbelievable!!!

I'm sure I read somewhere that its a piss take, guy set out to collect as many tacky accessories as was humanly possible! If you look close you'll see they've been applied with great care and the car is absolutely spotless despite there being at covered in at least 3 ton of sticky back toss.... and as someone else said, bet he's never short of a pen! 8)

Well for what its worth, Heres what I have learned so far. JBL GTO 6426e 6x4's are not a direct fit into the rear shelf supports despite being advertised as such. They have a spacer ring on them which causes them to foul on the speaker magnet. Now supposedly you can remove these rings but on doing so the glue holding the cone to the casing came away as well!! So I left well alone! Oh, and if your stuck, a mk2 8v gti rad will fit into the C as will most from the mk1 and mk2 golfs but you do need to be inventive!! Well it got me home anyhow! Also, a standard size ice cream tub will fit snug over the air intake for the blower motor as a way of preventing water entering the car that way. Just so long as you make two small slits up one side to make a flap and make some breathing holes around the bottom. with all the water kicking about just now its sure as hell beats the useless scuttle cover!! Bodge-tastic!! 8)

Just wondering if anyone has one on their corrado as the throws seem very long in my C! :( What sort of money are they and what would everyone recommend?
-
Just a quick one, would someone with Etka or Etos check to see it there are different speedo cables across the corrado range. I've just noticed that the speedo on my 91 16v C is still out even though I'm running 15's on 195/50/15 tires!! :( When traffic is going about 50 i'm reading almost 60mph! I'd read somewhere that on mk1's there were diferent speedo cables for different engine sizes. the main difference being the number of teeth on the bit that goes inside the box. just wondered if the Corrado was the same. Any help would be grand

Right guys and gals, I'll pass this computer over to my fiance who's the babyseat expert and fitter at our local Halfords. Hope she can answer and help anyone on here; "The bucket style seats in the rear of the c tend to be a nightmare when it comes to babyseats. Its the same with all bucket style seats like the tt which we havent found a seat that fits. The only way I have managed to get a seat to fit was when it was put on the front passanger seat with the seat slid back as previously meantioned. With access to the c and also the full range of childseats, I will do sone investigations and post back to see what will definately fit and stay within the law if thats of any use to you guys. Please note that when a childseat is fitted it has to sit in contact with the entire seat and should be fitted solid as a rock, when pulled forward by the harnesses. Ali" Looks like I'll have to surrender the C for an even of babyseat fitting!!!

Looking good Yan, as for work getting in the way, just throw yourself down some steps and break a bone... That'll give you at least 6 weeks of extra project time! ;) -

Having seen this engine in the flesh now I would just like to say well done Yan, A truely awesome bit of work. well done that man! Hats off to ya! :salute: -
Said it a few times on here, a very quick and worthwhile check. I got my rado for peanuts as the guy thought the engine was toasted as it was barely starting and ran like a bucket of spuds. One power lead later (Made my own from left over 4 gauge amplifier cable!) and it runs sweet as you like. I've been told the valvers are real buggers for needing a good strong current so as ditch says, always worth a quick check of the leads!

Christ, my lass is only 5ft 2 and she manages no bother at all. she can see out the back pefectly and see over the dash... admittidly the seat has to be all the way forward for her to reach the pedels but she manages fine. She drives a Ford ka everyday but I think she's got the taste for VAG's as she's wanting a Seat Leon Cupra R!! I trust her implicably with my C, even when I hear her peeling out the drive like a bat out of hell!! :?

Never understood this whole "black art" surround brake calipers! Given the right tools and parts a child of three could rebuild the calipers on a vw's. Think maybe I'll have to get the camera out and do a nice photo rebuild thread to help everyone out... most folk would kick themselves if they knew just how simple it is.
-
Thanks for that, I'll get reading.

To get to the seal, remove your scuttle panel. underneath you'll see a plastic basket thing. there is a clip between it and the wing which you slide across. then simple slide the whole thing towards the wing and it'll pop off. the seal is underneath. I just used some silicone on it... wish I hadn't now as my car stunk like a vingar factory for a month!! as for the heater matrix, it in the middle of the dash. when you sit in the drivers side look at your centre console. the top is around where the stereo is and the bottom is in line with the bottom of the gear shift. its a time consuming and utter bastard of a job. to be honnest its just takes ages and theres loads to undo and take out but nothing complicated. There is a guide in the wiki, not bad but could really do with some pictures (hint for the next person that does one!!) the hardesy bit is removing the dash. I managed but just loosening it and pulling it forward with both under trays removed but it was hard!

Had the rear brakes seize on me today and was all ready to ditch the things but found something interesting that might help a few folks. On stripping them I found it was the pads that had seized into the carriers. after knocking them out and running the angle grinder gently over the running surfaces hey presto, unseized brakes and they work a treat! Defiantly something to add to the routine maintenance list is to clean and grease these guides. just wonder how many folk have ditched they're rear calipers thinking they were seized and it was just this. something to bear in mind if it happens to you Hope thats of some use to everyone. Oh and as a plus side, while I was under there I found my C is fitted with konis!! bonus, considering the whole car cost me just under £300!!!
-
Er... in a word, No. They're bloody awful from the reports I've read... way to stiff. :?
-
Little update on the de chav process so far. I've ditched the horrid 17's in favour of some nice 15" OZ saturns, look not too dis-similar to the borbet C's. ripped off the horrible chav tints in the back, feels like a car now and not a van which is nice! Also fitted some inpro rear lights, not very OEM but really tidy the back on a white Rado But the best it yet to come...to my total shock today, I needed to un sieze my rear brakes and low and behold, what should I find hiding under my arches... its fitted with Konis!! :norty:  Can't belive my luck with this thing! They're not the top adjustables but I've wondered why the ride comfort was as smooth as it was and being nice and low. I'll post up some more pictures soon when i've washed it, looks a bloody discrace just now!!
-
I've already cleaned them up good and proper but I'll recheck them again. funny thing is the spoiler works just perfect on the switch so I assume its getting power. Has to be the signal to tell it what speed its doing. I know there is a spoiler control unit in the dash somewhere, anyone got some pics of its location and if theres anyway to test it at all?
