  1. How on earth does it handle that much torque?!?! Plus, 28MPG is bloody impressive for a V12!! I heard some rumblings a few years ago that the next generation of VW TDI engines is supposed to be hitting the 100mpg mark, any truth in this? Well, by the sounds of it they're not far off that with the Polo Bluemotion. I've read some reviews where people have supposedly had better economy out of it than the 72mpg quoted by VW.
  2. The early ones had really bad rust problems with the tail gate. The later ones had a galvanised tail gate and so didn't suffer so badly IIRC. Defo go for the 16 valve becasue it is awesome. I've often entertained the idea of getting another one. The ABF really is a nice engine if looked after. The rear calipers are prone to seizing up. Mine were really quite bad for that. To be honest the price you can pick em up for now you can't really go wrong. I've seen em for 600 notes. Apart from the calipers I had no problems with the car at all. And I picked it up cheap, with no history, and it hadn't been very well looked after. So if you find a good one I can't see you'll have any problems at all. Plus as a place to sit the mk3 cab is much nicer than the mk2.
  3. Well, at least he had the balls to admit he had made a mistake. More than some of the people involved in losing the bl**dy discs in the first place.
  4. It's actually (and I can't believe I'm saying this) really well done if you were in to that kind of thing, it's just the fact that it has a Transformers theme. The guy has obviously spent a lot of time on it, but it's just totally ott and is geared towards getting noticed and nothing else. I doubt it's much of a driving machine. Next time I see it going around the one way system being ragged away from traffic lights generating an exhaust sound at around about 5 billion decibels but only accelerating from 0-20 in 13.6 seconds I'll get a sneeky picture on my mobile.
  5. What like this Chavalier :) Spotted on New Years Eve while shopping. PMSL Oh God, we're getting dangerously close to barryboys.co.uk here guys! Anyone in the Ipswich area know the Transformers Corsa? Now that is funny!
  6. Personally I quite like the current understated philosophy when it comes to performance hatch backs at least. The new golf GTI is awesome. I can't imagine it would look any better with vents and wings all over the place. I guess it's down to taste but I think cars now look more refined and less tacky. And the Corrado is hardly in your face, it stands out because it is a superb piece of styling that grabs your attention, looks as fresh now as it did 20 years ago, without going down the OTT route. When people try to do all those crazy styling mods with body kits and extra spoilers it just ruins it IMO. One thing I do like is leery colours though. For example (although it's plainly not a "normal car") I would prefer the looks of a DB9 in yellow to the looks of the DBS. I've tried to like it I really have, but I prefer the DB9. The DBS is too plastic body kit like for me. So if I was going for an ST it would be Acid Orange every time. So there.
  7. We should have all booked for the same weekend. Then we could have arranged some time trials, a drag racing day, and concluded the weekend with a track day. Except you have to pay for any tyres you wreck. Spoil sports!
  8. Tell me you have a voluntary on there. They do quote a beefy V6 so I'm told but I bet we all get the 1.9 diesel.
  9. Andy665, I'm shocked at you of all people encouraging others to exploit test drives in such a fashion... So, Renault are confident the new Laguna can go for up to 48 hours without developing an electrical fault. I'm impressed.
  10. And that resort you can buy membership to when you get the car! It's just not fair.
  11. Those are some nice Rados! I have to say I've always really liked Torsten's car. No need for pics as there are plenty on here already. :)
  12. Yikes! Using all my experience in the insurance industry I'd say that was a write off. And shame on you vultures! Toad I have some locking wheel nuts I don't want.... Had some spare normal nuts so swapped em off the G60 before I sold it. :D
  13. I agree, I usually watch em twice and that's it. The Top Gear stuff I can normally watch quite a few times but I think it's because James May cracks me up so much. He's way funnier than Clarkson and Hammond although not quite the natural showman compared to his two colleagues. Which came out most at MPH, May looked a bit lost on a stage I thought.
  14. I've not been all that great with money in the past. This si the line I get from my girlfriend all the time: "Well, if you'd saved your money over the last two years instead of spending it all on 4 Golfs and 2 Corrados, just think what you could afford now." There's no come back to that really. She does have a point. But I did really enjoy all of those cars so I don't consider it a waste as such. I probably could have just done more with it if I'd thought about it a bit more. Oh well, when I've settled into my new role I will be doing substantially better finacially than I am now, but I'm going to have to be a bit more sensible I think. I want an R32 at some point. If I start saving a bit now maybe I can catch up with the price as it starts coming down in a couple of years or so. Assuming I don't blow it all on another Rado. God, there's just too many things I want.
  15. Yeah, my girlfriend is lusting after the A10 at the moment. Must say I'm very impressed with it. I thought that guy who was driving it was Bruce Willis at first! And the race with Stig and Sabine was interesting. How he came out of that corner on the outside before her I'll never know.... He's a driving God. Period. I was lucky enough to hear a Vantage at full pelt and it is out of this world. Wonder what the V12 sounds like. :luvlove: Unfortunately for me I'm still a poster staring dreamer when it comes to super cars. I do however start a new career in the trade on February 2nd no less. Starting small but who knows?
  16. An obvious Christmas present. Anyone else find it severely lacking in Koenigseggs? And Clarkson crashing that GT3! That man can not drive. Or he did it on purpose. Those are the only two options.
  17. Got confused with an R32?.. somehow. :?
  18. :offtopic1: Oooooh, Integra Type R. What year is it?
  19. That noise coming from that little Mk1 is great! :D Imagine serving at that McDonalds drive through and hearing that noise coming and then what appears to be a Mk1 Golf pulls up at the window....
  20. Cheers guys. I'm sure it is going to be really hard work but I'm well up for it. Mind you, if I thought I'd be sat around twiddling my thumbs I wouldn't have applied for it. And for the record there will be a VR6 parked outside my house with my name on the V5 as soon as possible. Black, lowered, 17s, recent rebuild, you know the drill. 8) It's mad to think that six months ago I really thought it would be great to get a job in the motor industry, and now I've got one!
  21. Well, found out this morning that I got the job!!! And I couldn't be happier. The money will be better, it should prove to be a lot more enjoyable and rewarding than my current job and I get a company car! When I hand my notice in on 2nd Jan only one more month to go at the insurance factory! :D
  22. I know how you feel mate. And it sucks. It was hard for me to even imagine selling mine. But I did. I've had girlfriends I've found easier to part with... a lot easier. And as much as I miss it now things are looking up and pretty soon I will be in a much better position financially for Rado ownership. Don't worry about the price, just get the best you can for it and think of all the money you'll save on repairs and the like, and look forward to getting another one at some point if that's what you want to do.
  23. I went for a G60 because I'd never had a supercharged car before and I liked the quirkiness of the engine. It's a bit of an oddity. Plus not very informed people would look all impressed when I told them I drove a Corrado, and they would say "is it the v6 one", and I would say "no, it's the supercharged one", and they would look even more impressed. Even though the G60 is less powerful....
  24. I'm not taking it personally, it's up to her. We only have one deviant. A one Mr vwdeviant. And he's not that offensive. We obviously have an amphibian with a habit of expressing his displeasure by excreting solids through mail receptacles. But then you just learn not to incur his wrath. The mods are a friendly enough bunch. They just confuse me sometimes by moving threads around different places. My mind can't keep up. :? But that's no reason to scorn the place. In fact, I can't remember the last time I saw a serious falling out or a seriously dodgey person on here (apart from potentially that Jimmi guy, but let's not start discussing him for God's sake). Not like you get on other forums. Anway, back to the TDI....
