  1. You bought it from Ipswich? That says it all! You didn't get it from a guy named Adrian did you?
  2. I know who won! On a Top Gear related thing do you think Hammond actually went to the North Pole? Was just thinking becuase on that special episode you never actually see him get there. Do you think they wouldn't let him go for health reasons and just filmed him on a sled somewhere snowy to make it look like he was racing May and Clarkson? And how come they're allowed to race a plane in the Veyron but they can't take it round the track? Are VW scared it'll be beaten by something?
  3.! I'm not trying to take the mick or criticise or anything but I've honestly never seen anything like it! Just got back from a week in Tropea and I wasn't prepared for just how different their driving style is. We were in the taxi from the airport at Lamezia, we'd literally been in the country all of half an hour and I've never seen so much dangerous overtaking. People just driving on the wrong side of the road over taking about six cars at once and pulling in at the last moment as a car comes the other way. When we actually got to the town itself it was difficult to see why anyone would have a car. I saw huge audi A6s and things going down really narrow streets. Never going out of second gear I wouldn't have thought. The unfortunate side effect was that just about every car has damage, dents, wing mirrors hanging off and doors that don't close properly. It was bedlam. But on the other hand no road rage whatsoever. At first it seems like there is because they were all beeping their horns but after a while you realise they just use their horns to communicate the same way we would flash our lights. I just kept wondering what they would think of our driving! Not so much cutting up or scrapes or narrow roads but everyone blowing their tops at the slightest provocation.
  4. Really enjoyed reading this thread. I've owned my G60 for a while now after owning a string of golfs and things and the first time I drove it I knoew it was the one! :D Just feels completely different from a golf. And be prepared to have loads of people asking if it's for sale! And for the record the Association of British insurers class the G60 as a group 17, but as said different companies rate in different ways. The company I work for won't insure me on the Rado until I'm 30!
  5. Good job. :thumbleft: Would love to learn how to do that one day. Want to get to grips more with the mechanical side of things first though.
  6. 6 16V G60 Rados were built by Karmann. One was trashed by Karmann on their own test track near Papenburg. One belonged to an ex-CEO of Karmann, Rainer Thieme (ex Recaro CEO), which is the one now residing in Karmann's oprivate car collection basement. This one at Thieme's request had a central armrest fitted to the driver seat. Tempest I was only aware of the two they made by VWM with the funny body kits. Think one was four wheel drive and the other two. I wish a G60 valver had made it to proper production. Guess they went with the VR instead though obviously. Would be nice to have that kind of engine readily available without having to do a conversion.
  7. That's the first I've ever heard of it then. Does it have four wheel drive? I've seen pictures of those ones with the sixteen valve engines but the horrid body kits. My corrado has a sticker in the boot that says it's an alpine white G60 but that's cos it is.... Man, what I wouldn't give just for five minutes in the driving seat of that thing!
  8. Isn't that the really ugly one though?
  9. I think I could actually feel the tears welling up when I looked at those pictures.... :( The person responsible should never be allowed near a car again.
  10. That place scares me. You just have to type in "nurburgring accident" into youtube to see why.... Even the pros have some horrific offs there. God knows what would happen to me.
  11. Sweet, well it's good to know it's with someone who sounds like they are giving it the respect it deserves. What an awesome car to own!
  12. Edition 38 is just another forum mate. But with loads more members than here so someone may know it on there. Linky: http://www.edition38.com/forums/
  13. You're a lucky man. Never even seen one in the metal before. Not even at any shows. What number is it?
  14. Second that. For all it's faults and good points there is not another car like it, and there never will be.
  15. Nah, Turbo-charged compression ignition intercooler head doesn't have the same ring to it....
  16. I had a mk3 TDI golf once, and I've also owned a mk3 valver, and to be honest there wasn't as much in it as I'd have expected/liked.... :?
  17. Yeah, I dread to think what I could have bought if I had saved up all the money I've spent on my dubs over the last couple of years! But I can't really think of anything I'd rather have at the moment than a corrado. And I mean that. Took the G60 out last night to where I'm storing it whilst I'm having the work done and because I've been driving around in my 1.4 golf daily it felt like the first drive all over again. :D
  18. Cool, respray time! :D Can't wait to get mine resprayed. Gotta get the charger rebuilt first though. No point in getting paint if it's just gonna blow up. I'm worried by all the talk of selling up at the moment. Not sure if it's normally like this but a few people at the moment are uming and ahing about it.... :(
  19. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the car suits you and you feel good driving it. I'm 25 and I know loads of people my age that look a bit silly in their cars. But then that's just my opinion that isn't worth anything. Just like other people's opinions of you driving your car aren't worth anything. If I live to be a million I'll still be driving sports cars.
  20. I work for an insurance company.... Fortunately I work in underwriting and not customer service, but I have to admit, when I go down to the call centres and listen to the guys on the phone I wonder how the company survives. They sound like robots. Mind you, they do the same phone call, over and over again, reading out a script. I'd have a hard time sounding happy doing that. I guess I'm wrong in this, but I guess I just expect all people who deal with cars to be doing that because that's what they really want to do. It's a vocation. Not like being sat on the end of a phone talking to someone about how much of their vet fees we're willing to pay. For a lot of those guys it is just a day job like any other and are probably just as unhappy in their job as I am in mine. I don't like working for an industry that's the biggest con going, but on the occasions where I've had to deal with members of the public I am always polite.
  21. I've always wondered this. There just seem to be so many people I've dealt with at garages, dealerships, and just in general, that are just w**kers. There are just so many car scams, people that think they are all big and clever cos of the exhaust they have, cow boy mechanics, and miserable people. The amount of times I've phoned places up and the person on the end of the phone has had all the people skills of a psychopath, and customer service is just non-existent. Obviously there are a great many exceptions to this, and I would never think that just because someone worked in the motor trade that they were like this, but it happens so often.
  22. Mk3 golf mate. I just picked up a 1.4CL with a years MOT for 350 notes as a daily whilst I do up my G60. And it's lovely, despite only having 59 bhp. Which after the rado feels like 4 bhp and half a torque . £20 a month insurance and cheap tax. I think I could easily afford to run both and I earn slave wages. Mk3 golfs are good because they are very reliable in my experience and cheap because they are not very saught after. This is my third one now. Oh, and on the insurance side of it you can insure on multi car policies but they are quite expensive. Your best bet is to have two policies, one for each car. And go comp on both. Third party fire and theft is often more expensive on old bangers these days than fully comp.
  23. Yeah, I always use water pump pliers. There seems to be a knack to it but it's easy enough and really quick. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELITE-PRO-10-250M ... dZViewItem
  24. Don't listen to him, he's just bitter cos all he ever used to get was lumps of coal!
