Was waiting at some lights, a young lad in a mk3 polo squareback slowed down to point my G out to his (disinterested) girlfriend. I saw him mouth the words "Gee Forty" so I was like "FAIL" but still, nice of him to notice.

Well, a mate of mine in my Kung Fu academy owns a silver pre-facelift 03 CTR, and I asked him tonight if he'd take me for a spin in it, which he duly did. I've read all the threads on here about CTRs and people complaining of no torque - well it felt pretty bloody torquey to me! Obviously you have to rev the tits off it, but it felt urgent and smooth and kept me pinned to the back of my seat as he bounced it off the limiter at 100mph :) Was also actually pretty impressed with the interior - massive and airy with loads of visibility - I love my C but getting into it afterwards it felt dark and claustrophobic. Still rocked like. I like to have my moves planned well in advance - for example, if the G60 snuffed it or (god forbid) was written off/stolen I need to know what I'd look for next. At the moment the only two contenders would be a CTR or Seat Leon Cupra R, which I've not been in yet. Would actually like a VR but everyone I've spoken to (my mechanic included) swears me off them because of the running/repair costs. Bearing in mind the amount of wedge I've spent to keep the G on the road for the past 6 months, that's a concern. I know we're all biased, but has anyone else had experience of the CTR or LCR and how do you compare them to your C? I can't get past the fact that driving the G60 I turn heads, driving a CTR or LCR I would be practically anonymous.

Wow, you'd really have to grow to love that Campaign interior though wouldn't you! :gag:

Bah, after a month the bloody rattle is back! I can see that the catch has started to wear away the new striker. Is the striker on a captive nut or something so I can undo it and move it further into the boot before retightening it??? Really flipping annoying! Maybe I should replace the catch mechanism in the top part of the boot as well???

Yeah I do have the boost return deleted - that sounds a pretty reasonable explanation, although I don't remember it always doing this? Well the cambelt was changed late last year, not sure if the tensioner pulley would have been part of that work? Is it a major problem if that's the cause? Thanks a lot for all your suggestions guys! Much appreciated!

I'll check all the hoses thoroughly tomorrow, good call. Car is making great boost, behaves very well and feels strong all the way through the rev range. It's really weird, but you kind of know what noises it should and shouldn't be making, you know, and I'd rather get it sorted if you see what I mean!

Hmm no that's a squeal on the overrun, this is 1) part way through the boost and 2) at a certain point at high boost. The initial one sounds like a high pitched squeal (very much like a belt), and the top one is almost like a "beeeeeeeep". And yes, you're right - 40k service interval on a 68mm pulley.

Oops! Sorry! Thanks guys.

Daft question really - just won a full black cloth interior off ebay, and I'm going to pick it up in the next few days (it's just the front and rear seats) and I want to know if it'll fit in the back with the seats down. Has anyone tried to transport a full set of seats in their C, do they fit?

Hi guys, here's the deal; I've got a lightly-ported charger in my G60 that was rebuilt about 25,000 miles ago by PSD. It's running a 68mm pulley so I suppose it's due another rebuild shortly. Since I've had the G60, it's always made a high-pitched beep/squealing noise at high boost (really flooring it), I've posted a thread on here about it before but nobody could put their finger on what it could be. Over the last few months a new interesting noise has developed - a high-pitched squeal at part throttle, seems to occur at just under 0 bar boost then goes off if you continue to press the accellerator (you can make it go *squeal* *squeal* *squeal* if you prod the loud pedal under load if you see what I mean). My first thought about the part-throttle squeal is that it's a belt slipping, but I recently had the charger belt changed for a new one of the correct length for the pulley (shorter belt) and it made no difference. So I suppose my question is - could both of these squealing noises be coming from the charger itself? They both seem to be boost-related, but I'm not sure what noises a charger makes when it's on it's way out. I always thought the 30k rebuild schedule was a recomendation to avoid problems, rather than the period at which they start to break. The guy who I bought the car off said he never drove it hard, and I certainly don't, so it's had an easy life since it's last rebuild. Cheers for any input guys! :)

My 2p - 80k means it's just getting broken in, considering there's Cs on here with 150K+ on them, still going strong. Also, the Corrado market is on it's arse at the moment, not a good time to sell *any* C frankly, low mileage or not. I think you'll find the depreciation due to mileage will be negligible. So I say keep it! Unless you're really just a bit bored of it, and want something new - in which case, give it to me. :)

That guy shagged Airwolf didn't he? That's just WRONG. It's like he's shagged my childhood :(
-
I can manage it, none of my f*cking passengers can though - I cringe every time they slam themselves into the seat. Jim's right, though - foot all the way in, then drop in at an angle!
-
This might sound daft, but check your floor mats! :D

No need for two spoilers on any car! Get rid mate! :)

Thing is, it's a bit of a false economy, buying a cheap old car - you end up spending loads keeping it on the road. I used to have a Mk2 GTI and it was ace, but just as much of a money pit as the G60.
-
Dude, there is no such thing as a hassle-free Corrado!

Thanks for bumping this thread - mine's getting serviced and MOT'd today so I've asked my mechanic to change mine to be on the safe side.

anyone used their magnex life time guarantee-fractured mount

Same here, got a Powerflow full system, but the guarantee is only valid for the guy that bought it (previous owner!) -
Hm well the plot thickens - what I thought was the sensor for the boot light (the black plunger-looking switch to the left of the lock mechanism on the tailgate) is nothing of the sort! As far as I can see it's just a sprung rod, with no electrics in it! Odd? Is it there to keep the tailgate still? Anyway, after some experimentation I discovered the boot light goes out when the locking mechanism is closed, so there must be some electrics in there somewhere, but it's covered by a black plastic sheild that I can't seem to get off. Anybody got any ideas? Failing that is there a way to disable the boot sensor while leaving the other parts of the car armed? I've RTFM but there's no mention of this.

Hi all, I've got a Toad AI606 fitted to the C, and very recently it's started going off of it's own accord, but seemingly only when it's been raining. I'm assuming water is getting in somewhere and completing the circuit? According to the beeps/flashes on disarming it's the boot, which makes sense as my tailgate has been loose and rattling around for a few weeks (sorted now). Would I be right in assuming the sensor for the boot is the long black switch to the left of the locking mechanism (presumably the same switch that turns the interior boot light on)?

Nice one! I drove my brother to his wedding in my C, it's the only way to travel!
-
Yup, me too! I'll persevere with the SRP, thanks for the info!
-
I did wonder this myself - would be interested to hear from one of you detailing chaps on this?

My roof is a little bit pink (rest of car had a respray not too long back). Tried T-Cut, then NXT tech wax then EGP last weekend, helped a bit but it's still kind of "milky" looking. I'll persevere with the SRP, then EGP after every wash for the next couple of weeks and see if I can't bring it back in stages. Know what you mean about the red on the cloth, though Jim - bit alarming!
