    I've killed it!!!

U got schizo HT leads.. Half red, half black.. :)
  2. Just put them on the car and paint them with brake dust. It's a car, not an ornament! :)

    I've killed it!!!

That's a good price for an original VW rad. Bite their hand off. And yeah, it's a bit of a git to fit, you need to take the front end of the car off.. :(
  4. My meaning of "intermittent light" was just that it wouldn't come on *all* the time. Sometimes I'd go whole journeys without it coming on and sometimes it would come on shortly after startup. Once it was on, of course, it stayed on until I switch the car off, so it's a solid light in that sense..! :) So we're not arguing at all, we're just not speaking clearly..! :)
  5. there is no difference between 'open circuit' and 'implausible signal' as far as the ABS brain is concerned- both will cause the light to come on solidly. Of course, I never said the light didn't come on. But actually there is a difference, according the ABS ECU - it logs a different fault code. This is exactly what we were referring to - it's not cut-and-dried. A faulty sensor CAN cause an intermittant fault.

    Axel Bushes

And who's this "Axel Bushes"? Sounds like a cross between an 80's tv star and a US president. On that basis alone he's got to be worth voting for... ;)
  7. Of course. One front wheel sensor went on mine and the light would come on intermittently. The other wheel sensor went and the light was on solidly. Clearly the difference between "open circuit" and "implausible signal".
  8. Changing the thermostat will effect the running temps. I doubt anyone would be silly enough to swap the thermostat housing and leave the old thermostat in the car... I'm with kev. 70 degrees (if that's what it actually IS), is too low on the water. If it's *actually* running at 70 then the thermostat isn't closing properly. Minimum water temp under ANY conditions should be 80, as that's when the thermostat opens.

    Vibrating in car

It's written in the Corrado owners' guide...

    Boot space

Yeah I've had an entire chest of drawers in the back of the C, along with all the bags and boxes required to christmas trips to family, and overnight bags for two people. It's pretty practical on the whole..

    Vibrating in car

It's the ABS system doing it's self test. It opens and closes each valve in turn. You feel it through the pedals. It's perfectly normal, they all do it.

    Vibrating in car

But anyway, back to potatonet's problem... need more details...

    Vibrating in car

How long does it last? There's the old chestnut - the ABS self test when you reach 10km/h... That can be easily felt through the pedals.

    Vibrating in car

Ok, still need more details. Is it very very fast vibration, or a slow, rhythmic pulsing? You "feel it through your feet"? You mean just through the pedals, or from the floor of the car? Could your clutch be on the way out? Perhaps somethings leaking onto the clutch lining and it burns off during your first pull away in the AM? Any funny smells?
  15. *grin* - I think you can see my C in that picture, stevemac. The only picture it was in, I think! If you look through the back window of the estate car to the right of your C ... That's my VR6's roof! :) I think that's it's best angle! ;)
  16. It's almost certainly a wheel sensor. Ignore the dealer, they're a bit clueless... The error codes will be stored by the ECU until read and cancelled. It's possible the ABS controller is knacked, but it's very unusual. But the point is with the ABS - you have to either trust the error code from VAG-COM (or the dealer tools), or you have to know the system inside out. And the latter is extremely rare. The guys from ATE that make it can probably answer those questions, but no-one at VW can...
  17. So he agreed to put it on his insurance, and he *still* won't give you the details?? WTF? He's wasting your time, hand it to the police and your insurer and tell them to sort it out.
  18. IMHO your insurance company should be chasing this. It's their responsibility to claim the damages back from the third party insurer, not yours. They should be the ones taking the matter through the police, requesting the details, etc...
  19. Ok, call your insurer, and give them the details you have. They will trace the owner of the car the guy was driving (since you've got the number plate), and then if the owner refuses to name the actual driver, they will be prosecuted themselves.. Leave it up to the insurance company - there's nothing more you can do if they guy refuses to play ball. You can also give them the name and phone number of the guy who was driving. Basically just hand over everything you have and wait....
  20. The number plate of the car that crashed into you is enough. Tell them he gave you incomplete details, or even that you lost the paper or something. Your insurance company can trace his insurance company just from the number plate of the car.... Or do you mean he was driving the car without insurance, or under his "drive any car" policy?
  21. For who? "Auto Insurance Company"? You have his numberplate? Call your insurer and tell them his numberplate, they will handle the rest.

    Steering Column

It could be play in the column... Hideously expensive to replace it if it's the height-adjustable part, too. :( There are a couple of possibles in terms of fixing it without replacing the whole column, but most likely it's wear in the mechanism and there's not much you can do about that.

    VR6 Weight?

Hmm. This looks familiar... didn't this question get asked before? I don't remember the answer, or even if there was an answer, but it'll be worth checking the search out.
  24. Is that still rumbling? I kinda lost interest....
