    stumped

Funnily enough, very late VR MAFs don't have this effect on the engine if you disconnect them. There's no noticeable difference to idle on disconnect, but the engine hiccups slightly when you reconnect it, that's all.

Could also be timing, tappets, fuel grade, maf sensor .... The list goes on.
  3. I bet I don't, and that'll be why the brakes rattle.
  4. Hehe, but given the spacing, you can probably work it out....... :)
  5. Hmm: given that it's a Porsche, surely owners can give the standard disks just the same amount of abuse and they aren't known for cracking/falling apart every 5k miles..? Surely you'd have to spend all day sitting on the brake pedal whilst rolling down a hill to trash disks AND pads in 5k miles... Unless you drive a Cayenne, in which case stopping once from top speed should do it.
  6. I know what you're saying Jim, but you might find yourself desperately disappointed by how much ACTUAL driving you do if you fork out your £250 to potter around the circuit twice at 3000rpm in that Porsche 911. You'll learn more about yourself as a driver by taking a car to it's (and your) limits. But I suppose it depends what you want to get out of it. :)
  7. For that money you can do a cheap trackday AND rent a car. Ok, it might only be something like a 205 1.9 GTi, but you'll be able to thrash it as hard as you like and you'll be able to do more like 2-3 hours of actual on-track time. The "driving experiences" as dinkus points out, are quite restricted. Alternatively, you can just take your C on the track, and see what it'll do. :) Take a look at http://www.easytrack.co.uk or http://www.bookatrack.com. Easytrack are renting out Caterhams for £399 the whole day. Get together with a mate, or rent it for half a day and you're sorted. They used to offer Lotus Elise, Pug 205 GTi and some others too, you're better off calling them for more details.
  8. The 330Ci has a list price of around £30k, which places it right in the same market as the C VR6 (taking into account inflation since 1992). Which one's better built? The BMW no question. Which one handles better - trickier, given that everyone's definition of "better" differs from everyone elses. The C VR6 was the "best handling front-drive car of it's time", but everyone agrees it's since been surpassed. There's also the caveat "front wheel drive". BMW appear to have a reputation for making the best handling rear wheel drive cars on the market, and the market seems to agree that in the real world, RWD is "better" than FWD for driver entertainment. But if we are actually talking about the X3 then I'll just go back to laughing into my cup of coffee. :)
  9. An X3?!?! Hehe Bit of serious competition for the Corrado VR6, eh? Completely different market..

    sparkys !!!!!!!

Don't forget as soon as you pull the plug out, it'll dribble down onto the electrodes...
  11. BMW 3 series is rear wheel drive, I'd have thought...? But yeah, it'll be a tough one for the FWD Corrado to beat, in handling terms. Engine and performance I'm sure the VR6 would be a match though. But if you already know you can't afford the bmw, why ask the question....? :)
  12. Yeah, cos who'd want a Golf?? ;)
  13. I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that it may incriminate myself... ;)
  14. Interesting discussion. I'm kinda glad I opted to stick with the VW exhaust now - I think I would have been one of the dissenters saying the SS pipe was too noisy. (I spoke to one or two people who had had a SS removed to refit a VW one and judging by the above I think I agree with their motives.) Amazing, I don't often feel like I made the right decision with this car! :)
  15. Well.... the prices on ebay simply reflect OUR gullibility in paying that much in the first place. By "our" I mean *all* the Corrado owners out there. Of course, none of us have ever paid over-the-odds for something on ebay, no, of course not. Ahem. :) I do find it incredible that GPC (with their contacts in germany) can't get these things. Surely VW and the Karmann factory have/know of plenty of parts for these cars. As a company, VW has a requirement to produce and store a percentage of total car sales in EACH PART that they stock, and they are obliged to keep them in stock for 10 years+. I suppose this runs out May/June next year, but considering that we know of Corrados being sold in 1996 and 1997 even, it probably wouldn't be too hard to persuade a court that should be maintained for a year or two...
  16. Oh, and if anyone has any inner window seals I need them... :)
  17. But the corrado was so low volume... They just don't want to have to carry any inventory for the c. 8000 cars on the road (in the UK) now (maybe). Mk1 and Mk2 owners have the advantage of their cars having sold millions in the FIRST place, even if there's not many around any more. Sad, but true. Why do you think so many people are benefitting from getting cheap New Old Stock from dealers right now?
  18. Another thought - there's shed loads of untidy Corrado script badges kicking around, they just need re-chroming. Anyone?
  19. Well, on the basis that it's better to be safe than sorry, you ought to get the heater matrix replaced anyway... ;) Do vibratechnics do an uprated one? ;)
  20. Ah well - the air con unit usually gurgles away to itself after a run.
  21. Bonus! I'll have a shufty at lunchtime. I didn't wanna break 'em trying to remove them, so I didn't try. But now I know it's a "prise carefully" I'll do just that. :)
  22. So you *do* have it, Pablo...
  23. I have it on mine, it's also not connected to anything. I think it's the point you attach a VAG pressure gauge to when testing fuel pressure (that's the end of the injector rail).
  24. Why not? :?[/quote:883f7] You've seen the torque curve right? Tailing off above 5500? Might aswell swap cogs and dump it back at 3900 rpm and back in the best band, rather than revving the nuts off it. It's a big engine, with lots of big pistons... You might be right about the rev limter figures, I can't remember them myself.
